-10s are cheap and for the 3ltr the ultimate low combination for the street. Ppl that have built rb26/30s know this :)

I disagree man. -5's are cheaper, come on SO MUCH EARLIER and still make well over 400. Peaky, laggy (not saying your's was laggy) but imagine coming on ATLEAST 1000 RPM earlier and making 430+. Average power > peaky power.

I'm not posting my last graphs as they're not finished tunes, but I will say this; they come on earlier than Paul's do and don't drop off in the top end with my cams. I'll never own a set of GTRS's again or the garrett version either.

I don't understand why this stupid argument keeps coming up? Surely we put it to bed already?

a guy who got his ar buit at same place as mine has rb26/30 with twin hks 2530's (pretty much -5's) on pump 98 making 450kw (shafts pulled so rear wheel )on mainline dyno on 25psi and over 1000nm , would be pretty damn responsive too!! but big money invested ,, pretty sure hes running a dog box and all the goodies

what RPM is he making 25psi at?

450 is a big figure on 98!!!!

Paul, what do you think you would have made peak power with e85 and gtrs's?

-5s on my rb26 came on nice with mid range, on a 3ltr it would have been like a big block!

Marko, I have no idea. -5's on a 2.6 are still a bit 'meh' for my liking. Much better off with -9's/SS's. Having gone from RS's to -'s on a 2.8 it's the best thing I HAVE EVER DONE. I still feel like it lacks a tad low down grunt but the silly cams don't help. Put them on a 3.0 and OMFG. I have seen the graph (although not at full noise) and there is no comparison. NONE! If i build a 3.0 (and I may very soon) I can assure you I wouldn't put those things on the passenger side of the engine.

A perfect example is this. Last week out of UE there was a supra with a T04Z. Made something like 315 RWKW. Poor result yeah? Pitty he still had a standard cat and some crappy cat back. Any turbo setup needs the supporting mods to work. How many crap results do you see from -5's/2530's? HEAPS! Sort the setup out and I can Assure you.. i'll bet my car on it, that the setup on the street would be ruthless. 3.0, 2.9, 2.8.

Sorry MarkO I've got that engine, and have had those turbos, and there is no way I'd be calling them "ultimate".

I believe Ian - GTRNUR would agree with you also.

And funnily enough, for his new motor - he is putting on -5s as well.

How about that :merli:

I do agree with u paul :)

It also comes down to personal taste when we talk about 2.6 as I've had gtss's which I found boring...the -5s however were nice.

As u say its about having the right combo. I could pick up my turbo setup with larger cams but I think u can't go wrong with -5s, regardless of capacity.

Haha show me your results when its done and let's compare the 2 on 98.

There is no denying in bottom end from -5s...I'd like to see if there is a difference up top.

I'm certain I will switch mine to -5s on my ADM gtr quite soon, home Reno's are taking up all of my bandwidth + a second child on the way. How priorities change with age.

on a 3ltr it would have been like a big block!

I can't see how that's a bad thing? Twist EVERYWHERE. Who needs to go back a gear, just let the grunt pull you out. It won't 'feel' as fast, but you would be so much further down the road he won't catch you with his extra '20 kw'. My 5's don't feel as as 'fast' as the RS's but its so much easier to drive quickly with this setup. The fact that in places I am making 100 more says enough... and more top end. I can't see a downside?

Although, even better than this would be a t51r if u want to lift the bar.

-5 beats -10 hands down, slightly less up top (marginal) but has massive increases down low.

    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
