I cant figure out the exact type. its confusing...

My R33 is a NA

The plate in the bonnet says its a ECR33 which i read on a site a few mins ago and it said its a turbo. it also says teh same on wikipedia.

another site which is showing the different kits that came with the r33 shows teh exact kit mine has and it says r33gtst

i have the exact kit as the r33 gtst one in the picture even the color is the same lol

http://www.skylinesdownunder.com/index.php...2&Itemid=81

On my driver side door it says R33 GTST

Inside the bonnet it says RB25DET

I even have LSD

HICAS too but i think all of them came with it.

If my car WAS a turbo does it mean i can fit in a turbo without changin most of teh other stuff?

i dont know much bout wonderful skylines...

plz help

Its a R33 GTS-T which is a turbo model compared to an R33 GTS...now there would be space for you to fit a bigger aftermarket turbo it will be on the right side of the engine block.

An RB25DET is a turbo 2.5Lt

Hope this helps mate

  • 2 weeks later...

Its got 4 Studs :D i just checked the front ones. even the back ones has to be be the same right?

And how do i check if its got 4 pot front and 2 pot rear?

what are the Pots?

another question, i went onto the following site and it says mine has 147KW(TYPE S) compared to the standard version which is 140Kw. why?

Why has mine got a little Kw more?

thanx guyz

you must be talking about engine power output not at the wheels... i never heard of two non turbo r33's ever having two different official engine power readings???? sure you get this power difference between different engines because there not made exactly the same or on different dyno's on different days.... but im pretty certain nissan never intended this power difference (if there is a power difference at all). Websites are generally crap and have some sence of lies toward them..... you are using wikipedia as a source.... ive just read through wikipedia on the skyline page very briefly and ive found 3 mistakes... mainly because anyone can go onto the site and change what ever they want.... my brother made a story up about him being a decendent of the greek monarchy who is now living in sydney.... in summary wikipedia is crap and so are most car websites....

if you car does have an extra 7kw in the engine then its mostlikely something simple like a more straighter exhaust than the 140kw ones or came standard with better spark plugs.... something small like that...

also you should have checked the car out properly before you bought it, make sure you do next time because you dont want cars taken off you because they are linked to being rebirthed....

Nah i knew it was not a turbo when i bought it coz i was looking for a Non Turbo, But its my first car and i had no Idea what RB25DE was and what RB25DET.

my plates dont say that its a turbo. There is another Plate thingy which says that and on the side of my door. maybe they put it on all of them.

bout the 147Kw thing i got it from this site maybe its fake but not wikipedia.

http://www.motortraders.net/imports/select...e&period=79

Check the Type S and the Standard Version.

Nearly all the websites show that the Type S Variant has 7Kw more.

I also told someone to FAST my vin number i have attached it. And it says its Type S.

I know its not a turbo was just tryin to find out if its possible that the Type S has the same engine as the turbo version without the TURBO.

Because it has all the features that the Turbo version has.

Then i can Turbo it easily.

Will Post pics of the engine bay soon. maybe tomorrow.

Cheers

ECR33 is a model code, from memory it is the "C" in the model code that indicates your car has the HICAS steering system. AFAIK it has nothing to do with your car being turbo or not, as there are also ECR33's that are GTS25t

an Rb25de has a few things different to the DET such as a higher a compression ratio etc, so while it may be so that there is an s version with 7 extra kw from factory, it's still an rb25de, you'd still have to follow the same turbo conversion process

turbo r33's go for cheap these days so even if you went the whole hog of a turbo converion, 5 stud and gtst spec brakes, new engine management system you'd end up spending more for the conversion than selling your car for whatever you can get and buying a gts-t

Yeah man guess ur Right. I will just sell it and get a Turbo one.

I am just a f**kin stupid flamin mongrel. I had enough cash at the time i bought the non turbo but i chose to listen to people telling me not to get a turbo one coz the turbo gets f***ed fast. and i think it was bullshit. i am gettin angry now.

anyways cheers guyz.

The turbo's on skylines do tend to go after a decent time of driving it hard but it is nothing to stop you from buying it. It is just another part that needs replacing when it needs to. :(

Its the same as your clutch you keep droppin the standard one your gonna need to fit a Heavy Duty, same with suspension and brakes...its just like any other car needs replacing.

Yeah i didnt know anything bout the type of engines and stuff but i did the stuff that everyone does when buyin a car. Like taking it for inspection and checking for problems/damages. and it was excellent and is still excellent.

fyi, my (supposed) standard turbo is still fine... I've had the car for over 4 years.

I only say supposed because I haven't looked at it, but it's pumping out just over 200kw and doesn't appear to be having any troubles holding a bar of boost...

I wouldn't recommend doing that if anyone is reading this, 10psi is safe, not 14.7... I'm actually trying to destroy it

Buyers regret bro, everyone gets it. You make mistakes to learn from them, so you know better for next time

As everyone has said, wear and tear can happen with any car, burnouts and clutching kicking don't help either ;)

It does sound like the people giving you advice on beforehand have never owned a turbo car and if they did they obviously hadn't taken care of it properly.

You'll find most stories of turbos F*cking up fast are more from the owners doing stupid things like overboosting the stock turbo, ghetto modding or just plain thrashing it/ never servicing it

anyway, hope you aren't out of pocket too much. But you definitely won't regret going from n/a to turbo skyline :D

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
