Just tossing up between two models. Budget $300-350.

http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/detail/...cd=BD-P1500/XSA

Now where you guys come in is firstly does anyone know anyone who can hook me up with a deal in the northern surbs? JB-HI FI etc. :D

Secondly which unit you think is better, or have you bought something different which you can recommend :O

I'm just sick of buying crap which skips and doesnt do what you tell it to lol

PS3 is out of the question reason being i have one in my room, need this for the living room :)

For $398 i think the best bet is buying another ps3 then lol.

Is there any blu ray/dvd recorders out or they out of my price range?

How would say a sony blu ray player matches up to a ps3 in dvd playback wise any difference.

http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-blu-ray...-full-hd-1080p/

Australian made..

Multi Region for DVD's and Blu Ray..

Cheaper than a PS3.

Ps3 has hdmi, does upscaling to 1080p.

PLUS, you get the games, sony are also going to start bringing out blu ray discs that have games and movies on the one disc, on top of that if you have a wireless network (i think you can hard wire it as well) you can play all your downloaded music, movies, tv shows and view all your pictures through the ps3 and one day (has been put off for a while now) there going to release a product called play tv, its a twin digital HD tuner with its own epg and records straight onto the ps3 hdd.

For $50 more than what you are budgeting you get a whole lot more than just a dvd player.

I've been thinking the same thing of late... ...Looking at getting a HD TV and a Blu-Ray player as well... ...Most of my friends that have PS3s say it is the way to go... ...Most got the TV and PS3 at the same time...

The rumors and little news that is coming out for what Sony have planned for the PS3 also seems to push in the PS3s favor... ...Microsoft are also rumored to be getting into bed with Sony so they can put the Blu-Ray player in the next Xbox... ...Which is also meant to be 100% backwards compatible with both the original Xbox and Xbox 360... ...A feature that the PS3 did have at launch but is no longer part of the current PS3 architecture...

I'm willing to wait to see what Microsoft do with the next Xbox... ...but if you're up to getting one now... ...Keep an eye out for PS3 bargains...

i would and did get a ps3 just for the fact that you have a blu ray player aswell as a games machine. built in hard drive, software upgrades and all the little extras that come with it.

but if you only want a blu ray player than i would recommend the sony. i work in retail and the amount of samsung we have returned is not good. im not saying they make a shite product, i just personaly think the sony is better build quality.

Well today out of curious went to my local JBHI, and decided to put both the units to a few tests . Main thing bought a disc full of AVI's, MPG'S AND DVIX to test on these units. Mind you these discs all worked perfectly fine on my PS3! Neither the SONY OR SAMSUNG BLU RAY players would play any parts of the DISC! I couldn't believe it. To my conclusion i personally think like many of you above PS3 sh%ts all over both the blu ray players. Reason being plays a variety of raw formats.

I personally thought at least the sony blu ray player would play AVI files but it didnt. Disgusting SONY!

Now guys where can i get a cheap brand new PS3! Still searching for that 40gb brand new one for $397 if anyone knows where i can get it from :D

You might struggle to find teh 40gig ones now.... I'd be ringning around the Big W's and Target of the city.

Maybe even try and few video stores. My Video Ezy store (Elwood) sells PS3's, so they might have some 40gig ones left. Time for a few phone calls. :(

And the HD's are very easy to upgrade to 500gig+....for under $200 ( http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_tr...-All-Categories )

I work at Big W in the Home entertainment section, we had 2 40gb ps3's about 3-4 weeks ago. I got one :P paid $378.00, all i can say is that Blu-ray is amazing. You wont find a 40gb ps3 in any of the western suburbs stores.

All of the 40GB cheapies are gone, went over a week ago.....if you asked you would probably get laughed at.

The only downside to the PS3 is that DVD's are region locked. I hear that if the blu ray has a region lock it will also not play, however every blu ray movie \ ps3 disc i have used has worked (they have not been region locked afaik)....and I buy alot of US \ Jap releases as I get them earlier \ cheaper.

All that aside, its still the best value for money.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
    • When you pulled it off, there is no signs of blown head gasket? Is it possible you have some other issues going on? Possible cracked blocked? Or do you think it's straight up lifting the head? Did you check what the head was torqued to before pulling it down (To see if possibly they're stretching, or starting to break threads out etc)?
    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
