Kintake
its all false infact it even says on the m7 website that is all rubbish and pay no attention to it http://www.westlinkm7.com.au/news-detail.p...s-Hoax-Email-17 News & Events Current News Mon, Feb 16th, 2009 Westlink Dismisses Hoax Email Westlink M7 has dismissed a hoax email currently circulating that claims that the motorway has implemented a secret speed fine based on the time a vehicle enters and exits the motorway. Rachel Johnson, General Manager of Westlink M7, said that the email was a hoax and that no secret speed enforcement system operates on the Westlink M7. Westlink supports safe driving and urges all motorists to comply with posted speed limits. "However, the secret speed fine system detailed in the hoax email does not exist," Ms Johnson said. "Speed limits are enforced on the Westlink M7 through the normal policing measures that operate on all NSW roads." "Westlink meets regularly with the NSW Highway Patrol." Westlink has installed signs that remind motorists that speed cameras are used in NSW. These are the standard speed camera signs seen on roads across the state and do not mean that any new or secret speed system operates on the Westlink M7. GTR-N1
Oh well, all's well that end's well. But I'm still the only person I know of (so far) that's been pinged for speeding by police light aircraft when the cops painted white lines across the Great Western Hwy (in the Blue Mtns) back in the early 80s. It was a system based on average speed between 2 consecutive lines. Anyone remember that??? My car was just a Volvo 245GL lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/258950-m7-m5-point-to-point-speed-devices/page/2/#findComment-4452775 Share on other sites

Although I wasn't old enough to drive back then They used to have signs up around the Great Western Highway, out towards Bathurst that said "Police Aerial Rader in Use" or something similar. One of them had spray painted under it "cops in Space"... Thought that was pretty funny Well if anyone even remembers the Muppets these days... Kujotk
doesnt matter if its true or not, only matters when the signs go up and trust me there will be a massive news broadcast and an official launching of the new system. I guess there will be allot more people pulling over for "mobile phone calls" than ever before if they think they were speeding... doesn't this disrupt the flow of traffic? Also doesn't this increase the risk of fatal accidents if people are now being forced to pull over or drive very slow if they think they might have been speeding or had forgot for half the journey that they were doing 10km/h over the limmit before they remeberd the stupid new point to point sytem??? people will pull over and people will die in avoidable accidents, i bet you our great leaders havent thought of this??? Or will they make it illegal to to pull over for a phone call now aswell??? scathing
Yeah, these rumours about "average speed" cameras are older than dirt. They're not true. The only such system around in NSW are the Safe-T-Cams, which only pick up trucks on the highway. If anyone's driven down to Melbourne you'll notice that the truckies stick religiously to the speed limit on the Hume until the end of the dual carriageway, and then drive like crazy f**kwits all the way to the border once they're out of the Safe-T-Cams' monitored area. DECIM8
Not bothering reading it however Yes and No.. For truckies you have point to point systems however it does not apply for normal drivers. NSW legislation describes how any speed camera must be used in accordance with signage. From memory point to point has more problems than benifits. Answer from what I know is NO. On another point I will 100% confirm that stationary SOUND cameras are now in use, In wollongong. As I understand it is still in a test phase... NISMO
So after the RTA & Police + Roads Minister start to "GUN" for trucks over 20 stretches of road; varying in length from 2Km to 80Km,Q1...this is revenue raising in the name of safety, right? and... Q2...the state gov't won't be able to resist booking cars as well right? re Q1 Tez, how can anything designed to slow a speeding semi down be called revenue raising? Revenue raising to me is a cop hidden in bushes at the end of a slight downhill, booking a driver doing 65 in a 60 zone. Booking a speeding truck driver who has sped over a number of k's when they know there speed is being monitored is more than justified and completely called for. It's pretty simple - don't speed you don't get fined. Before everyone jumps up and down with "oh you've never sped before" lines, yes i have but I'm sure as hell not going to bitch about being caught if I've knowingly broken the law. How appropriate the speed limits are is a completely different issue. At the moment they are what they are, if you speed and get caught - well, deal with it. How appropriate the speed limits are is a completely different issue. At the moment they are what they are, if you speed and get caught - well, deal with it. Q3. What if a driver has unknowingly broken the law... A case in point... Let's say Point to point = 20Km Throughout that 20Km, a driver between 2.30pm-4pm goes from 50 > 40 > 60 > 40 > 60 > 40 > 80... If I was that truck driver and got caught 100 metres ahead of where I should have been, I'd be pretty p/ssed off. I wouldn't be p/ssed off at my inclination to speed... I'd be p/ssed off at 2X other things i) my silly inattention to detail (whilst being bit hypoglycemic at around 3pm) and ii) the system My solution would not be to reduce RTA Truck stops as they're in the process of doing. My solution would be to carry out present tests and then some... eg. extra marijuanha & stimulants (still available on the net from Mexico) testing, twin logs Point to point is a system that deviant truckies get around already. Truck Stops have already popped up between 2X Points. If a Point to point is to be effective and fair, it needs to a) be moveable/malleable/flexible and... b) random and... c) latitude for drivers that try to stay on the limit. It's also annoying if drivers stay too far under it. My 2c PS. I've been caught Point to point before... IN A CAR. I paid my fine. I never quibbled. I was caught fair & square. It was from Lawson to Woodford and the Police were waiting for me (in my Volvo 245GL). The fixed wing Police aircraft picked me up going from 'white line to white line' at 85Km/Hr in an 80 zone. INATTENTION! THAT'S WHY I WAS P/SSED OFF. Now, when I think about it, it WAS revenue raising at me. I just hope they got some deviant SPEEDER that day too! NISMO
Mate i agree with what you're saying in principal. However in your above example of going through various speeds between two points, if the speed limit in that zone is 60, why would you be travelling 80? The aim is not to have drivers hit the exact avg speed limit between two points to come in right on 60km/h for example, it is to ensure people don't exceed the set speed limit. I can understand in any speed zone you drop below and sometimes go slightly above, however i stand by point that if you exceed the known speed limit then you should expect to be fined. I'm not arguing the fairness of the system, just the fact that we all know it's against the law to speed. I do think getting someone for 5k's over the posted limit is revenue raising, no doubt about it. However i also firmly believe that there is no such thing as unknowingly breaking the speed limit. If you're not paying attention, well paying attention is your responsibility. And as far as point to point goes, if you do not exceed the speed limit you WILL NOT get fined. It's that simple. If a truckie is trying to avg the exact allowable speed by going over the limit because they may have slowed down at some point, i again go back to the fact that they are knowingly breaking the speed limit. RB ONEVIA
its all about money. nothing to do with saving lives. speed and red light cameras must have signs warning you. no signs, then dont worry. safEty cameras are not speed cameras.
