scissor doors shouldnt be too hard to put in place as ur just replacing the hinge

scissor doors would be awesome i also was considering them myself however best if u look into the compliancy laws if u dont want to get stickered by the cops.

It's not just replacing the hinge. you got to cut into the body of the car. lots of work. The Hinge is huge!.

Personaly i wouldn't get them even if there where free. They do look cool when up. Works like this. You open the door about 1 1/2 foot then get out of the car and pick up the door and lift with both hands (becasue it's heavy) so everyone can see you got them. Unless your buff then you can do it sitting in the car with one hand.

i have also heard that the door is attached to the sidewall of the car, i.e NOT where the old hinge was, but on that panel, and it has been known in many occasions to bend the sidewall because of continuous use (weight),...this was not on a v35 thou.

  • 2 years later...

Sorry to revive an old thread but was just woundering if anyone has done the scissor door mods since this post was started, im looking at doing it in the next few months and i have found some bolt on kits that do not need any cutting into the body links are below.

as it is on a gas struts the doors should open on there own like a bonnet does or atleast make it easy to open the doors.

I have fitted lambo door kits before on a late model celica. Big job, requires taking the whole front end off the car. And very fiddly to set up. Did require some trimming of the inner guard.

If you are going to get a kit would reccomend spending the money and getting a good quaility kit.

It did look very porn after it was done!

One of my initial plan too. But got put off by the weight of the doors. Plus, I had to get RTA certificate to be legal which cost anywhere between $1.5k-$2.5K on top.

Definitely not good for under weight girls too.

Looks hot though.
