Hey just put a new 6 boost manifold on my rb20 an did have a cheap chinesse manifold on it an the car sounded deep an tuff as but now with the new manifold it sounds a bit like a hyundai note which is pissing me off.Only other thing ive done is mount the wastegate down near the bell housing.Im goin to hav to put another muffler on it to take out the ricey sound, anyone had similar issues? thanks running a gt35r an 45mm progate if that helps..

Never mind the sound, what's the difference like on the road?

As for the sound you dont want to sound ricey, just took car for a spin then boost doesnt seem to come on earlier but it does a little more voilently, pulls real strong. It has made 402rwhp so ill put it bak on the dyno an see if there is any difference with the 6 boost.

Have you spoken to Kyle about it?

Maybe you had an exhaust leak before so it sounded 'tough as' but now it's actually working properly it sounds 'normal'??

exactly what i was thinking

soon as i saw "chinese" manifold and a "deep note" i thought - crack/leak somewhere

Im goin to hav to put another muffler on it to take out the ricey sound, anyone had similar issues?

Sorry dude but I just have to point out the irony here...Isn't making a modification just to acheive a cosmetic outcome, 'rice' in itself...

Hahahah

True, though i dont think thats entirely what hes doin.

I think what hes saying is that hes pissed that a expensive manifold sounds worse than the original cheaper one.

6boost manifolds that I have heard result in a more tuned pitchy note, sounds awesome. If you don't like it - give it to me :P

Mine certainly did, went from an Internally gated GT3540 on standard manifold to 50mm externally gated 6boost setup and the sound difference is amazing.

Screams rather like some of the old group A cars do.

Funny i had the same thing happen to me.

Cheap china manifold= tough RB sound.

Then put on a 6BOOST item and things quiet down a bit, i put this to the smoother runners and design of the 6BOOST manifold.

Then i put on a HKS 3.75inch exhaust, now it sounds tough again :P

Definately not knocking Kyles manifold mate i tell ya well you guys no this is a work off art.I havnt had a chance to really go over the exhaust an check for any leaks but this can only be the cause, its hard to notice it at idle its only when at cruise under exceleration which leads to an exhaust leak somewhere.ill suss this out first thing in the morning.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
