I'm heading down for another crack at this awesome circuit.

If you're down, come and say hi! I'm the one with a black R32.

Seems to be less and less people from here at the track these days.

Good luck to the Aust Tarmac Challenge boys and girls.

Fark Andrew I hate reading these threads of yours, it's been over a year since I last had a go at PI.

Will have to stick it out for another year.

Good luck, and don't go faster than 1:46. :D

Well I'm defecting to Dunlops so this will be the first time on this car that I've used them. Hopefully if the weather is good I can find the 0.6 secs I need to get into the 46's. I'd be more than happy to come back with another 47.

I'm not sure what happened to Andrew but I hope he didn't get those Dunlop M1's. I used them for Dutton and 2 laps in they delaminated - too much heat generated there for our cars on those tyres! You'd need to get the R1's if going Dunlops (although these new A050's are starting to look like the new tyre of choice).

Well I didn't get any rescue calls yesterday so I'm assuming all is good.

So the new yokies are the go are they?

How do they compare in price and performance???

Hi, yep I was there with my new Dunlop R1's, new front and rear pads, I even polished the flame soot off the back of the car. All this in preparation for a 1.46 lap.

Conditions were perfect.

Then my battery died.

I couldn't fire the car to take it to scrutineering, it would crank, but not enough to start. Alternator appears ok as I get 14.7 volts when the car is running. If you have ever seen someone about to self-combust because of rage, then you know how I was feeling.

Saw Markov was there on slicks so a FTD was out of the question, but a second place for the day was a distinct possibility.

So got a jump start from the recovery cars and drove home.

<homer> Stupid Battery </homer>

No tyres are a reasonable price anymore but Ryan ran the A050's and smashed his PB at PI and smashed EVERYONE at Haunted Hills.

Jeff Beable used them at Targa and said they were great there too.

What are the yokie's worth, the Dunlops I got were $655 each.

Damn sorry to hear about the dramas BB...of all things a dead battery :)

That time by Markov is indeed insane!!! That would be some great in car footage :woot:

And Scott what happened to your dad as I didn't see him on the timesheets either?

Sux balls all right. I would have had to rely on someone with a jump kit to be there at the right time though, and that was not going to be easy. I had to get the recovery guys to do it initially.

I am trying to wangle a leave pass for the AROCA P.I. day on the first weekend in July, not hopefull as it's a week after the WRX round.

The only positive is that PIARC for some reason were only taking cash on the day so I didn't have to pay....apart from the $3k in tyres and pads for the weekend. :ermm:

I'm starting to think differently about semi's too.

At Superlap all the fast guys were running AO50's but I chose AO48's thinking that they would last longer. Maybe they will a bit but after seeing Ryan go through the whole dutton event on AO50's I'm thinking they are better suited and will last about the same. His lap times speak for themselves. Especially at Haunted hill where the Evo's should have been quicker than a little rwd nissan but he smashed em!

I had 10 lap old AO48's and Ryans AO50's were new and at the end of the event they were about the same for wear.

I haven't ever had RE55 TT's but I imagine they would be in the same boat at AO50s.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
