looking good mate. the HKS manifolds are good. there is definitely some merit in bridging the mani's (at least on paper). and the apexi turbos are great too. I have only been in 1 GTR with them and not driven it, but have tried them on a few other cars SR20s etc. and they are definitely good. :P

I had an Apexi turbo (AX53B70 P25) on my RB25, it was great made good power (250rwkw at 18psi) and my tuner remarked that it was one of the most responsive turbos he had tuned. However as i found out to my detriment they do not like to be oversped being ceramic turbines they will crack, get unbalanced ang break the shaft, they are no where as bad as stock turbos and if you keep the boost under 20psi you will be laughing!

no, definitely not ceramic. i have seen configurations which include these turbos running fairly high boost. ie 1.8bar plus. if they were ceramic, i doubt they would hold together under that sort of pressure.

wow, epic mate!! going for a very similar build myself except using the t517z option. ran them for 5000 km on factory motor.. engine went up to builders yesterday arvo. some of my internals arent as flash but your detailed build thread will certainly help when the time comes to put mine back together. ill be following this thread for sure. its inspirational!!

The turbos are definatley not ceramic wheeled. The Apexi range of turbos are a very good turbo and I am confident that they will make good power. These turbos will have slightly more lag on a 2.6lt than a pair of 25/30's or -5 garrets due to their slightly larger size but will make really good top end with good mid range response.

Atomicbomberman and myself have both been extremely busy with work and some other commitments so there has not been a great deal of progress but there should be some updates on the build coming soon.

Ok, sorry ive been a bit quiet. Photos are all over the place, and i need to get them into some sort of order. I've got so many photos. sorry if the picture sequences get a little long winded. I'll try to pick up where i left off.

Here is a front view of the turbos mounted on the manifolds. For those with a keen eye, you will notice that there is a 5mm stainless spacer between the manifolds and the turbo exhaust housings. This was because there was a clearance issue where the turbo housing slightly interfering with the manifold. I think this was due to a mixture of brands, HKS manifolds, Apexi Turbos and Tomei dump pipes. This is another example of where Daz doesnt cut any corners. Any other builder would have probably jammed in a few more gaskets to get the clearance and be done with it. Instead he had the spacers custom made using a laser cutter for a neat and professional finish.

Daz disconnected the lines and resized them all. Mr RUZIC (Ruzic Engineering) and Dr Tran (9krpm) were both there for Quality Control.

Good to know the Z-TUNE uses IHI based turbines too! If my car runs half as good as the M-speed or Z-Tune i think i'll be a happy man!

those last 2 images are cool - what application did u use? or did hang the engine with fishing line haha

Come on marko! get with it! everyone knows these are all untouched images! The shot was taken with high shutter speed while i was peforming "short bursts" of levitation. :P

Daz used multi layer hi temp silicone hoses for the oil return on the turbos. Bought the right bends and cut them to size. Very neat and tidy. I cant believe how expensive these were!

Rear turbo. The gooey stuff between the the return line and the block is not oil. Its a sealant for the gasket.

    • Hello everyone. I've recently started the research into R34 GTR front bits and running into eye watering prices. On the plus site it looks like some places make 'replacement' fender liners for these cars. At eye-watering-but-less than stock prices. I also noticed there's plenty of diffuser options available too. What I would like to know is if my following assumptions are correct. 1) The OEM guard liners are actually only 'half' the liner. They go together with the OEM brake vents which are a separate item which looks to be quite a large 'panel' that is part of the liner. The GTR bumper has bolt holes along the front. I assume the ones in the vent correspond to the ones the OEM liner does not have (circled?)   2) The V-Spec front diffuser supplants the brake ducts in the above item. I am assuming these still work with the guard liners as there's no alternate part that I'm aware of. I don't see how they go together, so I'm making the assumption that they have to, somehow. I know the center splash guard is different on the V-Spec (and is the price of the damn diffuser alone). How does the liner interact with this? 3) There's alternate front diffusers that do away with it all. Annoyingly, a lot of the clones and CF different ones... have no brake ducts on them. I like the idea of them though. My brakes get hot on the track. These alternate diffusers are a lot cheaper than plastic splash guards. I'm assuming you don't have to/aren't supposed to remove guard liners to run a diffuser. I suspect that quite a few people actually do not run the guard liner because with a front undertray you're getting a lot of 'splash' guarding anyway, and most people remove liners given they're probably running a pretty aggressive setup with a diffuser at the front. It would also be nice to know if anyone has ever run the 'reproduction' guard liners and know whether the fitment is OEM quality or "OEM Quality".     • Really, effort is pretty low. You hand fistfuls of cash over to someone else and pick it up when done...   And at least this shitbox isn't drinking coolant right?  
    • And most chargers that most DIY people own would put bugger all power back into the battery between cylinders. I've always done it with jumper packs/second battery connected. And that's on any car.   Because race car, and wanting the lightness.  At least in an R33, putting a bigger battery in can at least help shift the weight balance backwards  
    • OR, Tell the Motec to STFU, you said shift, so try shifting! But then yes, I agree, more sensors needed to. Put either a wheel speed sensor, or a diff speed sensor on it. Then get an input shaft speed sensor too. (I say input shaft speed, and not engine RPM). This way, you can now also log and see if the clutch is slipping (RPM, vs input shaft speed), and you can calculate gear (Input shaft speed / Output shaft speed). At least then if the gear position sensor fails you have a backup. And realistically, the Motec should only worry about what gear you're in for the parts where I'm assuming you have some power management strategies in it for the lower gears. (IE, lower boost, maybe different throttle curves, different ignition curves, etc etc). But it should stop it shifting. Pull the flappy, that f**ker should just attempt the motion! Heck, even on a sequential like on a motorbike, you can keep trying to kick it up a gear all you want, the physically part of the box takes care of not being able to loop the whole way around the box! Only part you'd have to worry is how it gets to reverse.  But that's on the driver... An R32 shouldn't be so smart as to try and override the driver on a gear shift  
    • Yeah, nah. Anyone not putting the absolutely largest battery that will physically fit (ie, NS70 X) is not thinking straight. the NS70 X is close on double the capacity of the "stock" unit.
