mad082
yes you do, except they aren't the old style ones with blue and red lenses. these look like big safety goggles with tinted lenses and actually have batteries in them that control it all and cost between about $80 and $200 for spare ones Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/11/#findComment-5221763 Share on other sites
mad082
Gran Turismo 5 is (Still) “90%” CompleteMay 3rd, 2010 by Jordan In what is presumably the last of Kazunori Yamauchi’s round of interviews to emerge from his time at Snetterton, he’s made a comment regarding the development status of the big game: “Gran Turismo 5 is about 90 percent finished. There are currently around 140 people working on the project.” That arbitrary number doesn’t mean much, but some of you may recall that’s the same thing he told USA Today back in January at CES 2010. At the time, though, the game was set for a March release in Japan, and we all know how that turned out. While these numbers were most likely pulled out of thin air, the lack of progress could be due to a significant setback in development or features have been added or improved. Regardless, we do know that it still won’t have everything that Yamauchi wants (head over to Edmund’s Inside Line for the full interview): The developer claimed the driving simulator would not be released until it “satisfied everyone’s wishes and then exceeded them.” He admitted that not everything he had hoped for will be included in the game but wouldn’t elaborate on what was missing. Instead, he insisted that GT5 marked the most significant step forwards since the original game was launched in 1997 and that the introduction of online gaming had, “dramatically changed the way the game is designed.” So, what’s getting left out? Did head-tracking get the axe? Perhaps it’s the rumored track-editor? (Please, no!) While that’s a little worrisome, improvement in online functionality is probably the most anticipated aspect of GT5, so it will be interesting to see how it’s eventually incorporated. Thanks to Loren for the tip! GT5’s NASCAR Cars Get “Smashed Into Little Pieces”April 30th, 2010 by Jordan In an interview with Japanese show “Love Cars!”, Yamauchi hinted at updates to GT5’s damage modeling: “In GT5, NASCAR cars will able to smash into little pieces – some the size of a bolt.” This sounds like a significant progression from what we’ve seen on the WRC cars so far, and it actually isn’t the first time he has mentioned a more violent damage model. He also states he will be able to reveal the release date of the game “soon” (presumably at E3 in June). The problem is that this interview is on video, so we can’t rely on bungled Google translations to see if there’s any other tidbits that we might be missing. You can see the full unedited clip right here, so if you speak Japanese, please check it out and let me know if you hear anything else of interest. Thanks to Denur for the tip, and Famine for the clarified translation above! UPDATE: Although we are still waiting for a trusted source to confirm the complete contents of this interview, some have cast doubt regarding the reliability of Yamauchi’s quote above. Until we have confirmation otherwise, it’s best to assume this was never actually said. Dark26
Some new videos got released: http://www.gtplanet.net/gt5s-nurburgring-g...ameplay-videos/ Favorite video has to be the 3rd one, nice full lap showing everything. The engine sound is a lot better than GT4 and the pace looks faster. Apparantly theres supposed to be big news about GT5 at E3 this year cause Sony put GT5 on it's "special E3 2010 website", so we'll see how that goes... mad082
this looks good GT5 Nürburgring GP Demo Introduces “Tire Grip” PenaltiesMay 13th, 2010 by Jordan Peter Lyon, a MotorTrend editor who will be joining teammate Kazunori Yamauchi for this weekend’s 24 Hours Nurburgring race, was first to try out the latest demo including the Nurburgring GP circuit and described it as “simply stunning”. His most notable observation, though, was that of a new penalty system: “New features of the game include a tyre grip penalty which temporarily reduces grip if you go off the track and onto the grass or into the gravel. It takes around three to four corners to retain full grip again. Drivers will also feel like they are in the hot seat when they crash into a guard rail and sparks fly.” This is excellent news, as the new system sounds much like what happens in real life when tires lose grip after picking up dirt and debris off-track. Several new screenshots have also been released, which I have included below. As always, I’ll post the full 8 or 18-megapixel images in a new post when they are all available. mad082
*tries not to get hopes up..... What Rhymes with “Man Furismo Jive”?May 17th, 2010 by Jordan You’ve probably seen Sony’s recent marketing campaigns featuring “vice president” Kevin Butler (played by actor Jerry Lambert) talking about the company’s latest first-party titles. His most recent clip focuses on Sony’s latest kart racing game Mod Nation Racers, but at the end he mentions his “next project -- let’s just say it’s a little racing game that rhymes with ‘man furismo jive’” with a knowing look -- understandably raising quite a few eyebrows in our forums and around the web. However, while he’s obviously referring to Gran Turismo 5, we really don’t know exactly what that means though it may suggest an earlier-than-expected marketing push if the game’s release window has been moved up from fall. Check out the full clip below and decide for yourself… Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/11/#findComment-5239344 Share on other sites

mad082
Even if this is released in a month in japan..we will be lucky to see it by xmas i agree, but it's totally stupid. other games they can release more simultaniously, yet others they dick around and let the japanese have them months before anyone else. although i think that in the case of gt5, because of all the delays it may end up being a worldwide release or very close to. they certainly wouldn't leave the rest of the world until after xmas because they would lose out on a buttload of sales. but yeah, only 1 month until E3 and then i'm sure we'll find out more. poppin13b
Was in JB Hifi in belconnen (ACT) today and they are taking preorders for GT5 as of today. mad082
wouldn't be suprised if they don't know, LOL. plenty of places have been taking preorders for months now. eb games is also taking pre-orders. but we should find out the next lie... i mean release date in 3 weeks time. found a uk site though taking pre orders with a release date of 24/9/10 also the delay in production is rumoured to have been due to implementing 3d compatiability and playstation move contorller support. if, like me, you don't know what that is (i had to look that up to see what it was), it's basically it's like a wii remote + nunchuck for the ps3. how good that would be for a racing game i'm unsure of. i know that with the wii remotes racing games are pretty ordinary. i much prefer a normal controller. i could understand them wanting to implement the 3d technology and having production delayed because of that, but if they are then taking even longer to get the move controller in there then i think they are wasting their time. bigslick
Can you name a better way of having people take up Sony's "new" technology? But why would you use a "waving-a-magic-wand" controller for a car racing game anyway? Maybe for Mario Kart, but GT? And no game shop can tell you the release date yet because they don't know. If they do give you a date at this stage then they're full of crap.
