sound means very little to me as when i race i don't just go for a sunday drive and think to myself "oh that doesn't quite sound right", i mostly ignore the sound and put all my concentration into braking at the last second, hitting the apex and accelerating as early as possible. for me as long as the graphics are decent and it handles very well, then that is all i car about. i care about the racing and not all the wank factor stuff that goes with it.

jeez your 100% focused

Whoa - big call. Hope you're right.

I'm a sound nerd too. Yes, it's very important to me. Some of the community add on sound projects for other driving sims over the years have been fantastic. The right sounds can make a huge difference to the driving experience. Obviously not the most important thing in a game, but a big part of the enjoyment.

Yeha I agree, I all the other GT games I have left the standard exhaust on them simply because they sound like ass with the "aftermarket exhaust"

Yeh yeh whatever.

You don't like it so it's wank. Gotcha. Now it's starting to make sense.

nifteh... my pre-order said it shipped today... w00t...

and to chime in... sound does matter... i'm a little miffed with the exhaust noise in gt5 prologue... with any luck its tweaked some in the full version.

agree mate. sounds means a lot to me too. drive my mates afla group NC historic touring car. it's got twin dual 55mm webbers, makes 220hp out of a 1970s 2 litre with beautiful extractors and exhaust and sounds amazing. drive it around a track and you feel every single RPM and it's sounds like it will such a small child in through it's carby down the straight etc. now turn off the sound and it's just an underpowered nice handling 220hp rwd 1000kg car. might as well be a well set up corrola.

sound is important. good sound can make an otherwise ho-hum car interesting to drive and make a great car amazing to drive.

sound is alot. its alot easier to hear aswell as watch the tacho when you need to change gears up or down. but im not expecting alot GT never has been taht great for sound. although the GT acadamy did sound better. requires lots of volume and i find myself cranking the bass up alot on any GT game.

So... Seen the list of all cars in the game: some random thoughts:

Lamborghini Countach

25th Anniversary '88 - fkn sweet!

Holden Commodore SS '04

Holden Monaro CV8 '04 - that's all the holdens... What a surprise, 6+ years ago they were the current models!

It's hard to pick out the Aussie ford from the list but the AU xr8 is there... Fk pick a worst car eg?!

Isuzu PIAZZA XE '81 - the one n same failed Holden piazza... Guess a Gemini chassis n rolling gear can't handle a spritly turbo 2ltr engine... At least out of the factory  that'll be fun hopefully.

(I remember reading an archive review of it back at release date... A comment regarding the brakes or handling mentioned "terrifying")

Nissan SKYLINE GTS-R (R31) '87 - the only 31, bit disappointing but at least it's there.

WhT the f*k have they been doing for 6 years... Very very few cars are newer than 03, like the newest Corolla is an 02.

from what ive read and seen, most of the 800 odd cars from gt4 have just been dusted off (updated graphics and sounds) and put back into the game.

+1 to the sound thing, cant stand vacuum cleaner cars. need for speed seem to have the best sounding cars, then again they only have 50 cars in every game, and the physics suck balls.

lol got a call from ebgames the other day to say theyr doing a midnight release for it. open at 1030 with sony and their chumps there doing giveaways or something? sounds kinda lame to be honest. might just stroll in at 5 to 12, get the game and GTFO

haha good luck with that.. their shop will be full by 10.35.. jb had a midnight launch of black ops.. line was out the door..

yeah good call. i'd imagine there'd be far more gamer bundies out at midnight for black ops though. i'd assume the gt5 crowd will be slightly older, slightly less geeky, and therefore probably not as dedicated to be out at midnight for it. i think i'll give them a ring later to see what sort of numbers they're expecting to turn up. hell i might just get it tomorrow morning if its going to be that chaotic

mad082, if you consider the 'sound' of a car racing simulator to be categorised as a wank factor then go to time zone & play Daytona.

I put sound up there just as imortant as the handling physics of a game. Graphics I put at the bottom! I'd much prefer playing a racing game with pixelized graphics where the car handling physics are just like real life and give me goosebumps listening to them over a game with crystal clear real life graphics & cars that sound like vacuume cleaners.

The first time I played Forza, was Forza 3. And I tell you what, I lost my mind. I felt like spitting on my PS3 and snapping my GT5 Prologue disc in half afterwards because of it. (all because of the sound!!) Hearing the depth of detail of the Supra smashing the rev limiter absolutely blew me away. For the first time I actually enjoyed just driving the car straight in a racing game just because the sound was so realistic. The physics of Forza also were just unreal - sooooooooooooooooooooooooo far advanced over GT5.

In every Gran Turismo I've played, you can rev limit 5th spinning in a 600hp Supra and the car stays straight??? hmmmmmmmmm. In forza, once the car breaks traction, it naturally steps out making you have to control the car. If the cars dont naturally do this in GT5, ill find it bl**dy HILARIOUS after 4 years of work.

there is already an update for the game. 133mb worth. seems to unlock more of the online mode stuff (which they obviously left out of the game so that they could control it a bit more to stop people getting on there too soon before the release date.

if the world ends in the next 32 hours (gotta take into account the time i will be at work before i get to play the game), i'm going to be soooooo pissed.

All I want to know is: Where's the XF Fairmont Ghia with the EFI 4.1 and the broken door handle? If there should be any Australian car in GT5, it's the XF!

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
