oooh Exige... if I could afford one I would live with it day to day... man up Roy!

do you really want a brand new car though? so much money to be saved buying something a couple of years old

what's the performance of the Camaro like? I imagine even a last generation M3 (6 pot) would hand it its arse when you threw in a few corners... pity Toyota haven't brought out that wicked V10 Supra yet... that would be my pick but its not being produced?

Come on Nick, you know me...can you really see me driving a rep mobile M3? They are a nice car but not for me...

And at 70-80k i would buy a new one. Seriously, its the only car i would. Otherwise i will stick with my POS R32 GTSt, it does everything i need from a car, only isnt a muscle car :P

madbung I also prefer the Challenger to the Camaro. And for your information, there is a company who do them now: www.suv.net.au

Thx Birds, had a look and I can't see any reference to the challenger on their site :P sent them an inquiry...see how it goes.

I was having a go at 240k for suggesting that Roy buy an R34 instead because "it's a better car" (which, sounding alot like an objetive statement, is just stupid to make without providing a context for which it is "better" in anyway)...seemingly forgetting that people buy cars for different reasons, including aesthetics which I pointed out with my second statement.

The Camaro is an American car (the vast majority of their cars are well behind those from Europe and Japan) the R34 GTR is Japanese. The R34 is better built, more advanced I am sure faster on a track.

The Camaro is a car that will turn heads.... and it has a fat V8 like countless other American cars.

So if you want heads turning and a big engine then the Camaro is better... until it falls apart.

And the R34 has a small displacement turbo engine like countless other Japanese cars? What's your point? I don't doubt the R34 might be better around the track...although I would like to see this...do we have any tests yet? No. What evidence exactly are you basing this "better built" shit on. Please show me engineering blueprints or something to back up your claim...or are we generalising / talking shit here? You sound like you have no idea...

In fact, I completely miss the point of your post, because all I did was point out to 240k that suggesting (without knowledge of what the OP wants from the Camaro) the R34 is superior is somewhat stupid...let alone doing it without justification or context. There is actually no need to compare these cars, or defend someone elses ignorance for that matter.

madbung, I saw their ad in an April issue of Unique Cars so they might not have updated their website yet. They were claiming to be the first in the world with a RHD Challenger. Hopefully they can give you a bit of information.

Firstly, i dont want this to turn into a vs debate. They are pointless, 1 n 40 people may change their mind based on what they read...otherwise its just a disagreement which is fine and good to see different views , but past that?

That said... :)

Is that the point though? Have you ever been in a Camaro of any year? Know anybody that owns one?

I dont get the "...countless American cars" either? The GTR is a turbo 6 like countless Japanese cars. Its AWD like countless Japanese cars. It drops bottom ends like countress R32/33/34 Skylines. Its ceramic turbos fall apart like countless Skylines.

Being more advanced and faster on the track means fark all to some people. Like me. I drive like a boring fart on the street. 32 years of age and never been booked for anyting. I, like many have my fun on the track where if you have done track work then you will know being fastest has very little to do with the fun aspect of it. Thats why i have a GTSt, whilst pretty well modded isnt as quick as half the newer cars getting around today....but people who have driven my car jump out understanding how it is loads of fun.

So all i want is a car that i think is cool, sounds the part and has a few little modern comforts missing from the 60s muscle cars....making it a daily driver capable car. I dont want to track it. I bet less then 5% of performance car owners actually track their cars.

AND, speaking personally, what is more advanced....in my eyes advancements are ruining cars. SHOVE YOUR PADDLE THINGY GEABOXES, SHOVE YOUR AWD, SHOVE YOUR TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITY CONTROL.

Others may not share that view, but some may. I will for sure drive cars with all that fluff and enjoy them, they are different and still enjoyable, just different. You can stll enjoy butter scotch ice cream whilst still preferring chocolate almond :O Thats why they make different cars for different people. Hey, they actually make different cars for the same people, some are lucky enough to be able to afford them and enjoy the difference.

LOL, sadly i am not one who can afford, though I sure as hell would enjoy them. But agree that they are not worth 150k, like i have said, no car is worth that much to me. Triple my income and i would rather work less and have a GTSt :)

fair enough I can't see you behind the wheel of an M3 but that's not what I was getting at... forget lap times and talk about dynamics and feel... your 32 feels nimble (I'm guessing) changes direction quickly, has a generous power to weight ratio etc... more akin to a Lotus than a muscle car... I think you would grow tired of a Camaro, not because it would be slow but because its not a 'drivers car' and you like to drive... not cruise around dropping the odd burnout and powerslide... buuut I may be wrong;) hehe... although I do happen to think the Camaro looks shit hot... seriously a fantastic design

anyway the answer is to drop a stonking great V8 into your 32... you know it! best of both worlds:)

actually if this is the brief then dare I say you can't go past one of the home grown V8's... the UK Top Gear guys love them, especially the older Monaros... I also think the new HSV R8 looks tough:D

Yeh, but 4 doors, i would prefer a coupe:) And i will always have the lil 32 for getting stuck into some driving. I use to like driving the old Impala around. Its a shame my brother and I didnt get to use it as much as we planned. Some cars are special enough that you enjoy just plonking along in them...maybe its not for everybody, but HK Coupes, 60 Camaro and Stangs...i completely get them and you dotn even need to be "ripping burnouts" :)

Anyway, seems like no Camaro. LOL, time for a PPG gearbox and carbon doors for the R32 :)

I've never driven a V8 or any muscle car for that matter... pity as I think the old school Challengers are one of the toughest looking machines ever made... my old man always had Alfas, Lancias, MG's etc so I've never gotten into the big cube cruiser thing... closest I've come was my first car, '78 Benz 280E... now that was pimpin lol

Well atleast you've admitted that, but I do want to reference your earlier comment that he would get bored of the V8. It is very much one of those things you need to drive to appreciate. Even the slowest of V8's have a feeling of guts to them that is unlike any low displacement, turbocharged engine. And the sound of them from the drivers seat just makes you want to rev at every opportunity. It's like being a DJ at a club but instead of beats you have an exhaust note that just says beast! They are so effortless to drive too...never have to give them anything to get a V8 off the line. That's probably the thing I hate the most about our turbo Jap cars.

Like you said, everyone is different I do appreciate advancements. If you dont like that stuff then there is a massive second hand car market to choose from. I think new cars like the new GTR that deliver performance improvements show progress and a step forward. But that is me.

yeah would love to have a drive of a well sorted one just for comparison sake... anyone have a V8 they will let me drive? lol

can't go past the sound of big cubes with no turbine wheels in the way to mute the sound... pure porn :P

I get dragged of at the lights by grandmas when in the GTR... its got Trust turbos and a twin plate clutch so its either a 4 wheel smokin' clutch dump launch or a drivin miss daisy slow pull away... the GTSt was much easier as you could dial up a few revs and slip the clutch and actually get away quite smartly without making a scene... a v8 would be sooo much easier again I imagine

when I said he would get bored I was assuming he was getting rid of the 32... he isn't so it would make sense to go for a v8 as second car, get bored of one jump in the other... best of both worlds:)

Yeah that's the unfortunate thing about manual turbo cars, you're either going hard or not at all lol. Or you try to take off normally (but still quickish) and it makes it sound like you're trying to drag someone because you still have to carry through the gears to keep up momentum and stay out of the lag zone.

LS1's rev out like a turbo car, they don't really get up and going til ~3.5k rpm. Holden 5 litre 'feels' more like a V8 fyi

im quite surprised at the ls series engines, they are not as lazy as some people make them out to be.....especially in the clubsports

I've driven a 6 speed, before and after LS1Edit and it felt gutless at low RPM like a turbo car, especially after hopping out of the 5 litre I owned at the time, the owner even admitted mine felt 'faster' on the street lol. I found that the LS1 felt like it was labouring around town, unless you were holding 2nd or 3rd gears.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
