i think the term rice boy gets thrown around to freely these days, people in america made up the term "rice boy", "rice burner" to make fun of the japanese car seen but now in australia it seems if you have stickers on your car if your a P plater the you are a

" rice boy" . The reason i bring this up i was thinking of getting a sticker kit to go down my gaurds , you know the one HKS GREEDY APEXI TRUST...... i have many japanese parts fitted to my car and have organised with Yokoharma Australia to put decales on my car when i get my Advans from them, but the fear of people saying look at that rice boy is to great that iv put it of and japanese drift cars they look ****ing mad with all the stickers some are a bit over board but the high level ones are very nice indeed.

So mabey people can hold of one all the rice boy shit its getting old and i for one am sick of it.

Dude. I think a lot of people will agree with me that Rice Boys tend to have.

1. Honda

2. Fake EVO

2. Hyundai

3. Anything else made in Korea/Former Soviet Eastern Bloc Nation.

These cars usally

1. Try to look like a WRX/GT4/EVO

2. Don't go fast even though the owners think they do

3. Have an exhaust tip/neons tip or a 3" system on a 900cc Suzuki

4. a must have is the 5" monster Tach for max Riceness.

So unless your trying to look fast and the furious ghey you'll be right.

i was always under the impression, that "rice" cars, where those that where more focused on comestics, and the looks did not really reflect the speed of the car, ie, the neons, 5 inch tach, stickers, kits and the rest.

I myself have been called rice, but i dont take offence to it cause thats what my car is at the moment, an NA skyline that has a kit neons, but no huge tacho, all things that i have done to my car as i wanted to. Modding a car is personal expression, its up to u to decide what u like and do it without having to car what others think. Soon my car will go fast, and no longer be just rice, but ive been happy with it so far.

Bottom Line, if u like it, DO IT!

Just my 2c's

Cheers

John

Yeah it had an EVO kit & tonnes of stickers but it all comes to together as 'Jap style'. I had plenty of bogans giving me shit bcos of it, but I loved it and just took the abuse as jealousy

here's a pic..

im interested what other people say.

i wouldn't consider that rice.....

'RICE' has lost it's meaning nowadays....it's like the newest catchphrase for anyone who wants to bag out some1 else's car....

For me...'RICE' is not rice if you've got the hardware to back it up...

imho rice is when you have the looks that don't justify the parts.

Most often stickers that don't really add to the car are what I think ricy... eg flame decals etc along the side of the car that are as attention grabbing as possible. I like decals and paintjobs, but it has to be subtle and flow with the rest of the car (not images of people pointing their finger towards the front like in fnf). Hot rodders did it a long time ago (since 1950's) but they did it with style etc. The vinyl era's ruined most of that.

As for brand graphics along the door sill, I love it, but I hate to see parts on the side that aren't in the car. Let alone earning the title of ricer you also look like a grand wanka when it sez "Bride" on the side and you got stock seats inside. But when done artistically and not butchered it adds to the aggressiveness of the cars.

Big banners across windscreens like "NISMO" are a big rice point. Especially on VL commodores lol (there's a guy down my street with this).

But yeah, do your car up the way you want your car to look. Its your car after all. What's eyecandy for you might not be the same for me and vice versa.

I only call sum1 a ricer if... they talk big but can't show shit for their talk when it comes to their car like: "Oh i have a 2000 dollar pearl paintjob on my GTSt"... on checking paint code on the car "Blue metallic pearl" stock paintjob. or... "My car is capable of 180rwkw man, my mate was able to do it in his so so can I"... "dude you drive a stock Auto R33 GTSt with bonnet grills that don't have holes cut out in the bonnet for... nigga please"

that's what I'd consider ricer activity, not brand names on the side.

I wouldn't call that "ricey as hell". As you said, "Jap style" would be a better description.

Personally I like the look of that car because it is not overdone. Being white makes it look classy or something.

I just can't understand people who spend thousands on bodykit and monster tach etc on a mechanically stock Hyundai Excel.

18" wheels with 6" drum brakes visable???!?!? Gimme a break!!

Someone has a signature that sums it up. It goes something like...

LOOKS > GO = RICE.

GO > LOOKS = Sleeper

I know which one I would prefer...

i personally think some sticker designs look the goods. Do whatever you like to your car. I think its better to have some aftermarket bits to coincide with the stickers... but if you dont .. whatever... some cars going around sporting the sticker look are rather nice..... ive got a few ideas in mind for my own.

fair enough, but what if some one does up the exel, lancer what ever and it looks the goods but still is mech standed, whos to say its not fast enough madey the single cam 1.8 is to much power for them so the just want to make it look good. There has to be some sort of respect to some one that can turn a standed mums shopping trolley into some thing that he can cuze with pride, dont you think. Like you park a standed r34 GTR and a standed exel side buy side with ones going to get more atention. But then you spend the remaning $90,000 on the exel then which one will people like more.

There isn't anything wrong with the graphics, as i drive a nice honda civic, and yes i would say that it looks like crap but it has some character now with the graphics on the side. For example my car has the graphic from the VW Jedda on fnf, but they will be coming off soon as i am currently designing my new graphics which will be going on the car, will post a pic here later.

But there isn't anything wrong with the graphics on the side of the car it gives a small car some form of looks and character.

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
