That's the R33 GTR N1.

If you can get that, that would be farken sweet!

I think he's refering to KR4's Series 3. He did mention he's got the factory oil cooler in it. Its not that rare when you compare it with the limited editions of 33 like LM, N1 and 400R though. But judging from the photos his does look really good in terms on condition.

Looking at his price I feel like I've snapped up a bargain for my N1 but the only downside is no logbook.

Just stumbled on here.

If he's talking about my car, nah its not rediculously rare - apparently falls into the same rareness class as a r32 gtr vspec II.

1994 R32 GTR vspec II - 1303 made

1997 Series 3 R33 GTR vspec - 1002 made

Im not sure how many of the 1002 r33 series 3 vspecs were delivered in KR4, and also with the factory nismo oil cooler kit. Or if you want to stretch it, are still in close to mint and original condition today. Its anyones guess really. So if you look at it that way, i guess it may be rare haha! I've only ever seen one other one and its in the nissan gallery in japan. :)

I wish i did know the specs on how many of them came out of factory like that though - vspec, KR4 and with the factory nismo oil cooler. That would be interesting!

Anyway, its not as rare as your N1 Brandon, but it has factory air con :ermm: haha only kidding mate! btw - love your exhaust, saw the pics in your garage link!

LOL!

But your car... That's rare.

So is yours a N1 or was the Nismo Oil Cooler an aftermarket job?

Did you do a VIN Check and see..?

Brandan your car was a bargain!! The LM R33 for sale now is also a good buy. But reflects the drop in R33 values.

Nismo oil cooler is an option. There is one around my area, a Sonic Silver Series 3 that an older woman drives with one! (It's not a V-Spec). She saw me checking it out and said "you like my car?" . Sonic Silver (KR4) is also very far from being a rare colour, you only have to check out the number of GTSTs in that colour. Also, saying a car is "one of only X built in X year, in X colour and X specification" is really drilling it down and sounds a touch ridiculous, I mean it was also 1 of 1 cars with that VIN number, LOL.

Enthusiasts will only drill down that far in terms of rarity and its effect on value when a massive bubble in the price of a certain class of vehicle or make occurs, such as muscle cars (which varied a lot in specification in the US). Otherwise, it simply doesn't apply that far but is a decent marketing tool and enthusiat talking point.

so my r32 Group A evolution nismo Gtr with 70k kms would most likly be worth alot more than what i paided for it in 10-15years time???

i like the sound of that. haha

not that i would even consider to even sell it. Id sell my house first LOL

That is a genuinely special car due to pedigree, which will give the car real appreciation potential. Specification follows - long after or not at all - pedigree has lead certain classes and makes of cars to appreciate.

But it's all speculation on a non earning (rather a cost to own) asset. Cars aren't a real investment by any stretch.

The way i read this, there is no other way of taking this except for it being a shot at myself.

I was mainly just curious incase anybody knew an estimated colour count made out of the 1002 cars for example from that year, or if there anyone knows the set average per year. I wouldnt think it would be an even spread across all colours. Anyway, what is interesting to me may not particularly be interesting to you. No need to ridicule me over it.

On a side note, i still personally believe KR4 silver is one of the rarer R33 GTR colours (being the series 3 / R34 silver). Majority of the silver ones are the early model lighter KL0 silver, which isnt my taste.

But, your thoughts are probably completely different. Either way, im not here to try and make my car look rare, i dont think it would serve any benefit. I didnt even bring my car up in this thread and as soon as i saw it my response was 'nah, its not rediculously rare'. But that being said, it still did take me over 3 years to find a close to stock, respectable example.

Anyway, end of the day, as with all cars - it is just a car - and this is just a forum. :D And lets be honest, i dont think hardly anyone really cares what anyone else thinks on here! haha

Good post. :P Kudos for playing it cool and laying out your response in that fashion. You are correct, if you are talking silver R33 GTRs, the Sonic would have to be one of the least common (depends if you want to includes greys? LOL).

Like I said in your for sale thread, it's a relatively rare car, when specification is taken into account and given your standards for purchase. That is one way to look at it. Another is that it's just another Sonic Silver R33 Skyline, of which there are plenty (more of a general public perception). How many ways can you skin a cat?

Okay so you say you are not here to try to make your car look rare (despite comparing to R32 V-Spec II), but I ask why that you specifically have 'rare' plastered all over your advert? Then again, it's an advertisement and your defining rare is based on colour and spec. But this can and will sway people's perception, as demonstrated above (some poor bloke desperately trying to get finance for it, LOL).

My general point was that in regard to asset appreciation, we are discussing talking points of specification and build, rather than actual model rarity (defining points). This should not be confused.

You know what?

We're kind of similar. And I kind of like you.

And just to clarify - with the vspec II comparison, i dont deserve full credit - i got it from the 3rd page, top post.

When you think about it, i can see where he is coming from. There is no badged R33 GTR vspec II. BUT there is the revised vspec series 3 model with xenons, updated synchro's, red stitching interior - etc, you know the specs!

Fair comparison, it's a direct comparison like you said, but it's fair enough. I bet you wish you took that bloke's offer of $35.5k, or then again, maybe not? LOL.

  • 1 month later...
My son is 3, If I keep the GTR till he can drive it the car will the be ~30 years old. Will be interesting to see what cars will be like when he can drive it. Maybe the GTR will still be blowing everything away?!?

this is bringing up a couple of months old post, but i think what you've said is quite interesting, think about: petrol is 'apparently' disappearing more and more each day, car manufacturers are pumping money into 'green' electric cars and their promotion (and hydrogen etc etc), so if you keep up the servicing on your 2.6 twin turbo im sure it'll blow away the majority of cars in the future!

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
