Gaaaaaaaaaaate and limiter. Alah alah Brisby!

Words on forums mean nothing, results on paper mean everything - there is nothing else to say.

I'll bring down an S15 in November...you bring down a VL...and we'll let the paper results speak

I'm a bit out of the loop with the pissing contest, where did you finish in the results Birds?

For reference I ended up 18th and I was happy with that given it was my first deca, how many issues I had on the day, and how badly I drove <-- biggest factor

I'd agree with the earlier comments about the semi's, I had used ones on and they had less grip than street tyres by a mile. At one point they started to get some heat up though and I had a half decent go at the sweeper on the long wang.

My Money will be on adz as well.. Id say give adz a Barina and he would still win  least there would be no Limiter and hard Launches!!!

26th mate :D

I felt much the same way as it was my first DECA too...thought I did okay with the skidpan stuff (aside from amassing WDs) but held back on the wangs for fear of wrecking my daily hehe. Did you miss out on much driving during your trip to the barn?

Mate I'll do you one better, I'll bring down my Holden Combo and still wipe the floor with you. Cheers. :D

Let's do it!

LOL...of course you would need a car with more power and better handling to be able to win haha

You know, I don't doubt for a second he's a better driver than me, but my point is that results from a non-homologated event mean SFA.

Damn, just missed out on finishing in the top half, good luck for November then :D

Will you be attending the track day at Winton in October? (I think it's in October...)

The SlowVia and I will be there with bells on.

LOL all this about driving slowly make you quicker....

proof is in the pudding - I drove like this all day with gate an limiter and still came out faster AND I drive it home

I got one WD for doing an extra LOOP around a cone... I think i should have gotten extra points for style :D

DECA times are a pretty good indicator of driver ability IMO,

the lack of grip means that for people to be doing the times that they are means they must know what they are doing behind the wheel...

And also the fact that you have to go straight into competition with no practice means you have to be super committed straight out of the box... (This is somthing that I struggle with..)

And don't think its all about the power..

Last year there was a datto with 75rwkw that had the fastest time on the mini-wang....

or the 140rwkw Porches beating 300+kw GTR's on the Long Wang

And I believe a little Toyota Echo that showed some gtr's a thing or two on the skid pan...

And as for having a better handling car... Just look at what I'm stuck with... :D

Nah mate! I'm too scared to track my daily...I'm still rebuilding my daily from 4 years ago so I don't need two projects lol.

I reckon the results are a good indicator when you have standout drivers beating awesome cars with not so awesome vehicles, for sure. But there's no denying a general correlation between good results and good cars...that is why we bother to modify our cars with good tyres and power, true? I just think there's so much variability between the cars that it's near impossible to determine unless you get two people to drive the same car :D

I thought you did pretty darn well...I've driven a Corona before and whilst fun with the handbrake they are no go kart!

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
