the 3sgte doesnt have the same appeal as the screaming 4age.. both are a bit on the expensive side to buy... a celica is not a supra and the galant is not an evo and both are front wheel bias.. i thought a bout a gsr lancer, but its not an evo, so scrap that idea.

MK3 Supra...with the 1JZ in it. Some come factory with them, although much rarer than the 7M-GTE. Terrific handling cars and you won't be disappointed by that engine.

fair enough so if u like a screaming 4age you should slot one on them into a old school corolla.... i have a ke35 coupe with a 105kw small port which is fun to drive.... would even suggest a 4agze. 4age is great little revy motor but some forced induction would make it that much better.

datsun with sr20 or a built L20 (a mate of mine had one putting out 155hp at the wheels, non turbo)

mitsubishi sigma with sr20 (same mate that had the built L20 had a sigma with sr20 running mid 12's on stock ecu and turbo)

gemini with sr20

ke70 with either sr20 or 4age/4agze

LC/H/J torana with a built 186 or 202, or sr20 or rb25 in it

i have to say that despite not being a fan of torana's, my brother in law has a very worked 186 in it (big cam, bored out to about 196, bigger carbies, etc) and it sounds very tough and goes very well. and looks pretty good too.

arent Galant Vr4's All Wheel Drive?

yes they are... and they have a 4g93 (or is it 4g63) just like the evos... but the layout, as with the evos is designed off the base car being FWD... evos have alot more develpment in the awd department so they dont behave like a fwd so much... the galants arent the same though.

wrxs are the same... but with their north south engine its a tad easier to make more rwd bias.. or you can just disconnect the front driveshafts and have a total rwd.

while i agree with your thoughts... and am a huge fan of forced induction... it costs alot to do it properly, this project car isnt going to be a slap together job.. adding forced induction is adding in more components that need to be at a specific level to match the car.. the price of the intercooler and piping at the level of craftsmanship i want is the same cost as a pair of well tuned delorto carbies.. for not a great deal more gain in the real world.. given that with the modest (compared to a stock gtr) power of a modified 4age will still be a handful in a light car on a tight road in a real driving experience.. having more wont necessarily make it better.

What about a REAL RACE Car? Ran inside the first five positions at Bathurst with half the capacity.

Held the fastest speed down conrod before the chase was installed and is woth nothing these days.

Except maybe to me and a few diehards...

Japanese widebody is probably to expensive but a local one is better with the 4G63BT and Manual GB.

Just make sure it has a LSD.

thanks for all the helpful suggestions people... but i think a little project has fallen into my lap. a 1990 ae92 corolla seca sx, used to be my gf's and then we sold it to a young guy she used to work with... he broke the gearbox shortly after and its been parked at his house ever since.. now out of rego and in need of a bit of work.

plan is to pick it up for a few hundred, strip it down, do some panel work, paint it in original red, some nice springs and shocks, 15" wheels and good tyres, and rebuild the 4age with a little bit of work done to the head, and do the gearbox of course..

it should suffice my needs for working on something without biting off more than i can chew at the moment, it will be a neat little car and go, turn and stop reasonably well, but i wont get attached to it.. if i plan it right and nut out some bargain bits, i should be able to make some money off it in future as these things in good nick can go for up to $4000 as its an ideal car for a p plater.... giving me some moolah to invest in another project.

after that... a friend with no interest in cars has a tidy ke55 with a blown 4k... sitting in his driveway doing nothing. that should keep me busy, if i can do the same again, and make a little bit of money, then i can invest in something a bit better... maybe start up a little wrecks to riches sought of deal. i have the time, know how, and equipment.

after that... who knows... a gtr if the budget allows, an ae86 if it doesnt.

cheers

Linton

mate the corolla ae92 would be a great project but its as front wheel drive as you can get! u should take the 4age out of it and put it in the ke55 u mentioned! keep the old school rollas on the road!

i dont have an issue with fwd! i prefer rwd car thou :P ......especially is its going to be for some track use etc..... the thread starter was kind of steering away from fwd format from what i read thats all!

Datsun All the way... hell no to the subaru unless you have a fetish for rebuilding gearboxs.

My dream would be to do a early 60's datsun fairlady... they are worth 20-30k restored

my father in law works for a place that makes step side bodies for the old F trucks and his boss's wife has one. they only just got it fully together earlier this year after a few years (was only worked when they weren't busy). it started out in pretty bad shape. don't think it was complete to start with.

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
