i searched this but didnt get any results, so sorry if its already been covered

i want to remove those ugly rotor gaurds and was wondering if anyone has done this b4 and knows whats involved, i cant find any bolts on the backside of the gaurds and am thinking they might be spot welded on on the rotor side of the gaurd???

thanks for any help you can give!

Remove the caliper and then remove the rotor. You will then have full access to the stone guard... you cant slide it off hence you need to hack it off.

Use either tip snips, an angle grinder or a combination of the two :D

Dont do the irreversible.

Think long and hard when it comes to modifications that are hard to undo.

There is no need to cut anything. Ive only removed the fronts before. Not sure about the rears. But this involved removing the wheel, caliper, rotor, dust cap for the hub, split pin, hud nut, then hub. The hub nut on my car was 30mm and should not be on so tight that you break 2 breaker bars getting it off. After you remove this the rotor dust shield slides off. Sometimes with a little force needed.

Be careful when taking the hub off not to lose anything (ie. bearings and washer) and make sure you put everything back on in the right order. A new split pin must be installed to prevent the hub nut coming off.

I take no responsibility for any damage or misfortune that happens to you/anyone or your/anyones car during or after the process.

If your still unsure about the whole process get a qualified mechanic to do it for you.

I don't think hub needs to come off - although if you want them out in one piece, calipers and rotors should come out (or temporarily have them out of the way), which is no big deal.

I think they are interference fit to hub as there is nothing else holding them in place.

It's always nice to have things out in one piece and in serviceable condition, in this case a pair of tin snips would be the best way to go.

ceffy is talking about a31/s13 style fronts where you can easily remove the spindle to get the backing plate off in one piece.

Unfortunately the front end of a skyline is completely different and short of having your front stub axle and bearings pressed out and back in you are stuck with cutting it off.

Exactly what he says, I did this on my silvia and going to do it on my GT-T when I get my R34 Brembos.

    • Hopefully it ends up being something manageable, like a hone, rather than a full bore—it would be a huge relief if it’s not as bad as it looks. Hang in there; these setbacks are annoying, but it sounds like you’re handling it as smartly as possible.

    • Thanks MBS206, i got that PDF but got abit overhelm with all the connections and tracing of wires. I wasn't expecting to plug the dash harness anywhere. i was just going to use my electronics jumper wires to plug into the right pins like ECU power, ecu ground, ignition trigger etc... I do have a few ratchet straps locking it down tight. Fire extinguisher ready and only a small amount of fuel at a time, enough to submerge the pump.
    • Thanks GTSBoy, i will do abit more digging. I am missing a blue relay near the ECU connector... so i will chase that up in the next few days as well

Though, you don't need the dash plugged in to get the motor running. What you want is power as how GTSBoy said. You need to power the ECU. Find in the above link the ECU pin outs (Verify them before just connecting them up from things written on the internet). Find anything needing power, give it power, find anything needing ground, give it ground. Then give the starter motor power through a big cable, and bridge the solenoid on the starter straight to power too.  ECU will be on, and when you give the starter power, it'll spin the starter motor, and it should start. I also hope you have a proper stand, and not just the engine sitting on some wood. You will want it bolted down properly.
