hi all

long time lurker, almost first time poster :P

with a bub on the way, the missus seems to think we need a wagon, and what better place to start than a Stagea :(

been looking around at it seems that you can get a 260RS or an M35 for around $25k (sometimes less)

haven't actually had a chance to drive either yet, but my heart says 260RS my head says M35

260RS pros/cons:

- RB26DETT mmmmm. .. . .

- older car

- possibly tracked/thrashed?

M35 pros/cons:

- newer car

- less likely tracked, maybe thrashed

thoughts?

cheers guys

260RS boy racer looks

RB26DETT Lots of Mods

and all the benefits of a GTR and of a WAGon

to sum it up 260RS is a GTR in wagon form

it's far from luxury

M35 with leather and all is a luxury wagon

It looks like a luxury wagon too

there are not many parts for the M35 and it's not well known yet

This could be a good thing and a bad thing..

less aftermarket support = no money spent lol

if leather and luxury features are nothing to you then 260RS allo the way

If you compromise Performance for Luxury then the M35 is the car for you

Less aftermarket support = custom fabrication = more money spent :P

Just depends what you want from your wagon.

Pure performance = 260rs

reasonable performance + comfort/luxury = M35 (get one with the leather interior)

Personally I dont think you can comare the two. One is a purpose built sports car with 5 seats, and the other is a comfortable station wagon.

To me (and i mean no offence) its like comparing a top of the line HSV with a basic commodore. personally i hate commos, but thats what im comparing it to :P

anyway, drive both! remember M35s only come in auto, 260RS only manual :(

So are you saying that the M35 is the "Grange" and the 260RS is the "R8"?

I just took my 260RS up to falls which is a 5+ hour drive, snow boards on the roof with 4 blokes the shortest being 6" the tallest 6"5' with a mountain of shit and booze.... turbos spooling hard and pulling like a train with at 2t+ weight all the way up Mt. Stirling THE BEST FUN EVERY!

Question you need to ask yourself is, how much is your woman going to be driving/in the car?? Mine is rarely in it and even more rarely drives it. Also the seats in the 260rs have very little in the way of height adjustment as apposed to the electric leathers in the M35 so if ur chick is a shortass like mine she will complain to no end... plus you will be cursing evertime she dints and scratches that glorious 260rs mouth at the supermarket if she drives it a lot.

In honesty i use my car for lots of work shit as well as personal stuff. I'd say that when we have a babe, ill probably sell the 260 for an M35 and Buy an R34 GTR... Hi performance cars and soccer mums just don't mix :whistling: in my opinion *ducks shit thrown by car chicks*

thanks guys

yeah, i think the missus would prefer the M35, but i would prefer the 260RS

will have to drive them both and see which we like better i guess

happy to hear other opinions though :whistling:

To me your question would need to be ; Do I want my missus fangin around in my pride & joy? I know I wouldn't. Best thing to do would be buy her something she can call her own to belt around the shopping mauls (sic) & buy yourself a prime mover for group outings which only you skipper. (260RS family express)

My 2c

Cheers GW

I wish my missus wouldnt drive my M35, but she loves it.

I was looking for a 260rs when she saw this. Not a bad compromise I think. Personally I would rather an R35, but only two doors. :whistling:

There is performance to be had cheaply in both models but the VQ 2.5 is an unknown at the moment with 200 awkw being the highest output I think at present. With most parts aimed at the Z, it would be smart to swap to the 3.5 block for any serious power.

I never got to drive a 260 (although I would love to.) but the handling of the m35, now I have the coilovers, is amazing. Like nothing I have driven before. I would suggest you drive both and make your decision then.

Also, the M35 cant be thrashed like the 260 as the damn ECU wont let you.

How did you get 4 blokes in there? I get whinghed at when i take 4 blokes to work (100k trip) as there is no room and my knee's are up around my ear's and im only 6"1

Went and looked at a new liberty wagon for the missus, same external dimensions (give or take a few mm) yet a SHITLOAD more room.

It might only be my ignorance but is the autech really that much faster like the specs only say a 1kw difference. If there is anyone around Brisbane with a 260 let me know if you want to compare as a guy at work has a 400 hp r33 and it's not much faster then my stock series 2 except for the 180 speed cut that im not gonna remove

theres 2 options really when you get into it...

ugly but modern/luxury

or

faster/better looking but not as luxury (but far from being a cheap import interior like you guys make out)

m35's to me have a great interior and look very neat and luxurious but the outside is horrid and the 260rs has a great all round package except the audi style interior quality of the m35, but its still pretty decent anyway.

I think u will find everyone is just gonna back the model they own in this argument unless they have both :)

i guess i must be lucky, cos my missus can actually drive (a manual) pretty well, so have no qualms with that

anyway keep the opinions coming guys :)

went down to Just Jap today, as they had an M35 on their website which i wanted to drive

unfortunately, it was off getting something done to it

might talk to Just Jap about importing something, they're only a couple of suburbs away from me :)

I have an RS4T and I would love a 260RS but suggest the M35 for you. Do you want a reasonably fast family tourer or a hobby? I spend inordinate amounts of time and money on my RS4T and would do the same with a 260RS as bog standard they are not that quick.

With the M35 you get a well appointed comfortable wagon with excellent point to point abilities and reasonable economy. Fit a heavier rear sway bar, some Bilsteins when your stock shocks have worn out, some quality tyres (keep the stock rims - paper thin tyres on oversized wheels do not make for a good ride) and when it becomes available tune your stock ecu for maximum efficiency and you will have a great car.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
