hey all...

been scratching my head at this one since i got my car back from tuners.....just neediing to know what is a safe amount of knock for a tuned vehicle.

what is your oil temp (with oil cooler) max on a hot day and whats safe???

what is your water temp on your pfc controller on a hot day max out at, and whats safe??

cheers in advance,

my water temp is at 81 with a alloy radiator

my knock is about 10-15-20

and when i was drifting at winton my knock would be about 15-20

and temp would be 81 usual on a sunny afternoon :D

was just thinking this today as i noticed my safcII reading a bit higher then it normaly does.

when i first installed it i didnt think the knock function worked coz it always stayed on 0, then after about a week i noticed it would read 1 or 2 & after a long drive it read up to 12 but today after slapping it around corners in the wet lol it was reading 16. all my readings are at idle its never read anything other than 0 under load.

does this sound fairly normal?

Knock up to 50 is quite fine under full load, i.e. 3rd/4th up a Hill on a Freeway, etc..

Water temp ideally should be under boiling point, but best under 90 degrees, because at 90+ timing gets pulled back 5 degrees, more or less depending how the powerFC is set up.

Oil, you would want it under 100, 110, I've seen mine go up to close to 120 on a skidpad sitting on the limiter in 2nd for quite sometime.

With an good oil cooler, your temps should never past 100, and below 80, i.e. the oil cooler setup is also running a thermostat, there's nothing worse than 'over cooled' oil.

not sure about the rest but water temp with thick radiator sits at 86C cruising ... r34 thermostat opens at 82 so that's normal (bit lower for R33s as the ts opens at 76)

Is that true that the PFC pulls timing if temps get over 90C?!

My R34 consistantly runs in the 90's during summer since I installed a FMIC. I pulled out my radiator yesterday in the process of replacing the timing belt, and discovered it was in very poor condition with many bent fins... Might explain things!

In any case if it pulls timing I think I need to look at getting a new radiator.

there is a water temp timing trim option in the power fc yes. what it is set at I cannot tell you as it can be changed with dataglogit.

I think its time to change your location guilt-toy, but from the youtube videos i have seen your avatar is spot on :)

    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
