Hi all,

I'm currently in the market for an R34 GTR. I've decided that I want a vspec or vspec II bayside blue one - in excellent condition.

As there arent a rediculous number of them available here in Sydney, chances are i'll end up having to get one imported.

I went to Top Secret Imports today and expressed interest. The guys there seem pretty cool and explained the process to me end to end.

Has anyone had any dealings with them?

If so - please share your experiences, both positive / negative and help me decide where to go from here!

Cheers!

Had another chat to the guys at top secret imports yesterday and will be placing an order for a car on Saturday.

At present, I have not been able to find too much buyer feedback about them on the internet (which is quite normal anyway).

With me being new to all of this, after speaking with them - I will be documenting the whole search and purchase process with updates as they are available (similar to a blog) from the moment i place the order to the moment the car is in my garage.

Hopefully this will assist those who are also in the same boat to make the decision whether to import or buy local, and also give some feedback and exposure (which from my experience so far - im sure will be positive!) regarding top secret imports.

Keep an eye out for a thread on this site in the near future :)

Sales & Cust Service:- Garry and Jack have a reputation of being honest, up front and fair. Ph 96761023

Technical & Diagnostics:- There is a full-time mechanic on site. For any complicated issues, they also network with Hills Motorsports.

See Mark etc. Ph 98999962

Security & Electronics:- They network with Platinum PPI. See Daniel Ph 0411101737

Think the old thread for this got lost, or the mods didnt like what i said about TSI.

My experience was overall good, Gary and his crew were nice up front and communicative.

Despite having a full time on site mechanic, sometimes some pretty major problems can slip through (i experienced one of them).

Once this was discovered however Gary had no problems or complaints about refunding my deposit, apologised for the hassle and offered to help me keep looking. To be honest if i didnt find an almost perfect car elsewhere that arvo i would have gone back.

So yeah, great to deal with and they dont mind you hassling them. Just get a second opinion for any mechanical or electrical inspection you get done.

Both Mark and Daniel are the guys who initially recommended me to check out Top Secret Imports for the new car. Small world hey! :)

I trust both, Mark and Daniel's judgement and am looking forward to working with Top Secret Imports to bring over a car.

Messiah, cheers for your advice. No matter who I end up buying the car from - I will ensure that thorough mechanical and electrical inspections are performed.

Will post results!

ON another note, I went though this weeks sales and this one was sold for 3.3 mil before FOB. 99 V Spec, 58,000kms, 4.5 grade

But if you have the dollars to spend, go for this one, V Spec II, only 5000kms, grade 5. I reckon this will go for more than 5 mil yen.

Yeah i've done some serious shopping around and taken numerous importers and brokers into account.

Top Secret Imports have capured my interest because they offer a 100% money back gurantee if the car for any reason does not meet my requirements when delivered, or even if i find a car local in the mean time - they will refund my deposit. :)

I also liked the fact that they took me seriously when i walked in to their office. I'm 22 years old (and on top of that - i'll be the first to admit that I some times look younger than I actually am) but some of the dealers on paramatta road literally just laughed at me and thought i was talking shit when I told them what type of car im searching for.

I have dealt with top secret imports in the past.

I don't believe any dealers are 100% legit, however top secret are up there in the bunch of honest.

I went to several importers before deciding to buy through them.

They are great, i pop in once in a while 2 say hi and check their new stock, they are also helpful with their after service.

Their after sales service is second to none.

22?! all the while (from reading your posts) I thought you were in your mid 30's ...early 40's...

fail on me.

bought my car from them... have recommended them to everyone of my friends that are after an import.... brother will soon be buying a GTR from them... and as long as I'm into imports I'm gonna get my rides from them (unlike there is something local at an unbelievable price :))

messiah,

I think the former was your case. in all cases put your dreams aside and examine what you are buying. look t the seatbelts for one. do the dates match do they retract fully and easily. crawl under it nd look for marks. have a fridge magnet handy (think about this one.) and run it along the car. in all you are putting a lot of $$ down buy wisely. I have seen shitboxes scrub up new and the end user wouldn't know.

my 2c.

I got my Supra from TSI, and have become good mates with Jack and Garry even after I took delivery of my car

They're a couple of great blokes, would recommend them to anyone.

Will be going to them to bring in whatever it is that I'm after next.. I'm thinking an M35 at this stage(a).

I had this requested to a broker in Japan and the seller considered this as an incredible insult.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
