Hey Guys,

I am yet to finalise things, but I have heard that [cabin] have requested SAU enter as a team to Drag Combat!!

I am stinking excited about this! What I want to know is, how many people would be interested in entering Drag Combat under the SAU banner?

I'm THERE baby!

This is going to be one of the highest profile events of the year in terms of "our" type of motorsport and a big turnout would be superb.

*** To top this good news off, Damien @ [cabin] has made us an offer too hot to refuse!!! The Autosalon guys will be supporting our team entry with special, SAU member-only offers! Details to come but remember, ENTRIES MUST BE IN BEFORE CHRISTMAS to take advantage of the discounted entry ($50) and is for Skylines Australia NSW members only. ***

Stay tuned for a special offer for non-members as well!

Just to re-state what PranK has said though, NO NO_SHOWERS!! I cannot stress this enough! Cabin/Autosalon guys put on an amazing and professional show and it is ABSOLUTELY IMPERITIVE that those that say they're entering with the club ACTUALLY ENTER!

There is still some discussion pending about appropriate classes for us to enter so stay tuned for more details.

SAU in the spotlight - Skyline invasion of Drag Combat - BU5TER running low 11's... I can't think of anything better!!! ;-)

Update:

I will be confirming some specific details tomorrow with the Cabin guys regarding an SAU team entry.

We will be entering as one group under the SAU banner in both the drag and show'n'shine categories and as such, the SAU entry will be open to SKYLINES AUSTRALIA NSW club members ONLY.

Whilst not yet confirmed, it is expected that all participating SAU team entries will attract a discounted entry fee IF ENTRIES ARE RECEIVED PRE XMAS '03.

CLUB MEMBERS: Please feel free to express your intention to enter in this thread and keep all conversation or chat to pm.

Shit well if B-man is going to come then I'll have to consider entering it strongly...

I will definatly be along to support SAU though and yes... if your not comming then don't say you are... even if your thinking of coming... this is a way of getting the club some exposure and if we say yep we'll have 20 cars and only 12 show then it make us look like fools.

Pre Xmas 2003 is not far away - what's the mail boiz ?

Just a note, I have it on good authority that Damon Dupriez no longer has any ties with [CABIN], after "negotiations" broke down...

So I'm not sure what he's doing liasing club discounts for Drag Combat.

DAMON has broken the association but that's cool because, we are dealing with DAMIEN. Different people all together. Damien Gavin and John Bearman are the organisers and promoters for D.C.

All is well with the universe.

Well, I cant believe that cabin have changed their event to coincide with the 4,6&rotor Nationals in Adelaide on the SAME DAY!!!

Obviously they are not interested in GTRs doing 8 second side by side passes!

Why would Keir & I spend thousands to race in NSW when we have a similar event in Adelaide on the smae weekend?

Damon... Damien... Same thing dammit hs.gif

Only $50.00 folks. Get those entries in quick-smart. B-Man, run the Gloria too mate!

Munro, Drag Combat will have quicker cars running than yours and Keir's. It's not personal, mate but you seem to think it is. I think [email protected] might be a better place to take your concerns. I'm quite sure you'll have fun running in Adelaide. Maybe you should start a thread about it and not hijack this one.

keen on the DC but not sure if my car can cut it in the show and shine or even the drags. never actually run the quarter mile. although having said that i am keen on running on the new track when the off street drags start. but i'll come and watch for sure and have a few mates who will tag along aswell.

    • I drive the Tiguan much harder than the Skyline in all conditions, because it just grips and hooks, unlike the R33 shit box
    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
