So yesterday I was picking my little sister up from work and on the trip home this cattle dog chases a plover right in front of me... Next thing I know I have collected a sign post and am surrounded in dust. Thank f**k we weren't injured at all!!

So now I am looking to get my baby repaired, but before I take it to a body work shop I would just like to ask you guys what you suspect is wrong (apart from panel damage) and what I should be looking at price wise for the repairs. Just ball park as I know each shop is different.

So here are some pictures and as you can see I collected the sign post right in line with the drivers side rear wheel. The wheel has moved in at the base, which the tow truck driver suggested is from the control arm being damaged. I drove the car up the driveway at home and didn't notice any obvious bumps and jumps as if the axle had been damaged though, but then again I am not mechanically minded so I wouldn't really know...

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

Looking at that control arm I would definitely be asking them to look at your subframe/chassis alignment mate. Its taken quite a hit there.

Noone here can give you even rough pricing unless they are involved in the accident repair bus. Take it to a couple of reputable repair shops and compare their notes.

Camerons bodyworks at Coopers Plains always seem to get a mention around here as being upfront and of a good standard when it comes to skylines.

I've had no first hand experience with them but it may be a good place to start.

Thanks for the input FineLine. Sounds like a good option but unfortunately I am up Townsville, probably should have mentioned that before sorry.

As for your suggestion that I could have subframe/chassis alignment issues, how complicated is repair in the worst case? Need to source replacement, or can these type of things be reworked??

Any body shop worth their salt will have chassis equipment mate. have a look around.

Looks ok. Just chuck in a arm and see what its like or You can just replace it with an adjustable lower arm off ebay and it does not matter if their is a alignment problem as you can adjust it out. Had the same damage on my old r32 and thats what I did

Thanks for the suggestion Brokenz. I just need to be as informed as I can be when I approach body shops and these inputs, solutions will help me heaps when I quiz the mechanics. So I will get some feedback from a few shops about the drivetrain (right word?? chassis) issue.

Can any panel beaters out there provide an estimate for a full rear quarter panel fix and respray?

... LOL would I have swerved if it wasn't on the road?? Now that I think of it, would it have been better to have hit the damn thing??

Ok so the old man knows a mobile mechanic at Cannington that is going to take a look at it on Saturday. So should I get hold of a control arm (found one for $225 delivered, is that reasonable?) so he has it on hand?

Better for you, but I'd take all necessary safe steps to miss someones dog personally. But then I'd also attempt to capture the dog or at least burn an image into my mind so the owner can pay.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
