thanks linton! good to see some real thought put in to your post :(

as for the avatar.. it's staying ;)

:P

personally I am always a fan of the BBQ & Cruise thing as well... speaking of which, there will be one next month for our Christmas Cruise - though this is a Members Only cruise we do each year..

Everyone always says they are a lot of fun! So to all those non members, join up if you wanna come along.

i want a paintball day - a way to get to know people without the cars.

i believe that the JDMstyle tuning forum has its monthly meets that are somewhat "hosted" by companies some months. this could be something of a suggestion instead of dinners (most were weeknights so i enver went)

I'm keen for a rally day!!

And agreed...the clown should go :P

As per below amigo

The low numbers is this issue. Just not as many people make the effort to come out. About 2 years ago i used to get 20-30 people to the Great Northern for a beer n steak night, but last one i did about 3-4 months ago i think we maxed about 9 people....

Just not the #'s anymore to do monthly. Maybe 1 every 3 months may work.....

I must have missed that last social dinner. :P

Although, I hitted it up for the Texi Pre Drinks which was a really fun night.

I'd be up for something like once a month/2 months/3 months, but getting right up to north sydney on a weeknight (Unless Friday) is a big no no for me.

i agree something minus the cars is an excellent idea!

i also like the idea of more mixed club trackdays, I tend to go elsewhere for this kind of thing at the moment and I always loved the RENEW days and HSV days... you got to mix with a greater range of drivers and cars and you had a mixed of timed and untimed.

oh just out of interest, execs, how are the other club track days going, have they seen a drop off in numbers of recent time like we (appear) to have??

Liz

I think it doesn't matter what I think in the grand scheme...

but hillclimbs sound like fun, as does a rally,

I have a beat up old corolla that I love to bits but have no respect for that I could have a lot of fun cutting loose on a rally, as much as possible with a paddock basher anyway lol

paintball is awesome fun.. anything where there is something else to do.. as in... to just have a meet up with nothing to do is a) awkward and b) a tad boring when all you can really do is talk cars.

paintball, half day rally school, trailbike rides, etc.. all fun... there is a place up here that takes you through the watagans... your bike or their bikes.. up to you.. would be great fun.

that seems pretty cool! $200 to hire their bike for the day..

hmmmm :(

actually.. one thing I was meant to organise before it got too cold was a fishing/bbq day.. i have everything sorted for it.. apart from the weather..

would people be interested in that? it is in Sydney.. but for those out of sydney, it isnt too bad because you dont have to drive to sydney.. cruise for a couple hours.. then drive home.. drive to sydney, spend the day relaxing.. then drive home :(

+1 for BBQ, -1 for fishing. I dont have the patience, plus if we are eating what we catch then I hope people have an appetite for toad fish. And if 80 people come, could you imagine 80 rods casting next to one another on a windy day....that sounds hilarious, make that +1 to fishing.

id be keen to do that.. everyone bring 1 plate of food each, 1 carton of drinks and some deck chairs each and there would be enough food and drink for everyone to share, all different types of food from each corner of the globe. rather than leaving it up to 1 or 2 people to organise all the food then there not be enough or too much.

and if its a beautiful spot, on a beautiful day... there is nothing better than kicking back and soaking it up.

moar texis and driver training type of track days (like the one coming up on the 18th at OP)... oh and taxi service for those without a licence would be awesome. You get to drive someone elses' skyline for free and they get to get out of their home win-win :(

I haven't been to a texi/skidpand/track yet... as someone said not everyone can afford to trash their car/daily due to risk of ruining tyres and whatnot but for me it's a nonissue at the moment as the car's sitting in storage anyway so bring it on!

+1 for fishing type of trips .. Windsor has a nice park right accross the bridge with plenty of parking and mullet and carp are easy and fun to catch, plus the whole area is ideal for bbq/pincin/kicking a ball around ( http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&sou...mp;t=h&z=18 )

Actually, that is a pretty unique and cool idea - an SAU "multicultural day."

thats how my family do gatherings... as we all eat different things now and some have kids.. its just easier to bring plate of food that you want to eat and what you want to drink.. everyone just shares each others food, or sticks to their own. there are so many different nationalities on sau that it would be a fantastic mix and give a great insight to a nations REAL cuisine.

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
    • Hi everyone, I've been wrestling with this for a while now and have been trying to find out the cause. For context, the turbos used are Garrett 2860 -5s, the BOV is a BNR32 HKS SSQV IV kit, the car is currently tuned to ~470 whp on 17.5 psi. The car drives normally, pulls well when it doesn't happen, and I can replicate it fairly easily. It does not sound like turbo shuffle or flutter. The engine has only a thousand or so miles and has had this behavior since it was completed. After my engine was built for my R32 GTR, I noticed that the car now sometimes makes an air discharge sound on what appears to be positive boost pressure that sounds really similar to a BOV. I had thought that it was a BOV issue but even when replacing it with a brand new unit, the sound persisted. It seems like it's coming from the passenger side but I may be mistaken. The closest scenario I could find was this post here https://www.gtr.co.uk/threads/maybe-a-boost-leak-opinions.147955/https://www.gtr.co.uk/threads/maybe-a-boost-leak-opinions.147955/ started by @yakshii and it sounds very similar. As in, at partial throttle once I reach positive boost I begin to hear the same psh psh psh psh psh sound like air is leaking somewhere when I keep the throttle in the same position. It most commonly happens in 4th gear at around 3-3.5k RPM and 5th gear around 2.5-3k RPM, which seems to coincide with normal positive boost thresholds. It might be similar to what @Austrian GTR mentioned about his own HKS SSQV. Notable difference would be that when he applies more throttle when it happens, it stops. In my scenario if I apply more throttle during this repeated psh psh psh sound, the cadence of the sound gets faster and louder rather than stopping. If I lift off slightly and apply throttle again, it will normally stop and pull without issue. I've checked all rubber couplers to ensure that they are tight, but have not gotten the opportunity to properly do a pressurized boost leak test. If anyone has had similar experiences or thoughts on what might be the cause, I'd be very keen to hear them. I also have a video of it happening from inside the cabin, if that would make it easier to understand: https://youtu.be/2zqZXcx8jbA
