funny story, I only knew they were around the corner because when I was inspecting the masserati, one of their mechanics was thrashing the shit out of a customers ferrari, think it was a modena F1 (if that makes sence), the cheaper one thats about 5 years old now, then the dealer said yeah they service the exotics there.

I was visiting one of our sites for a few days, and on my lunch break went walking around and found that.

a GranTurismo left there one day...very nice :)

If your talking about the guy that does the ferraris, lambos, maseratis ect.... I bought the car around the corner from them. I went in and saw them, they look on the ball, offcorse they'll charge allot, i'm not fussed, no point buying a car and not being able to afford to maintain it, i'll probably take it to them but now i'm interested in the carlton mob just for comparrison.

I highly doubt most other mechainics would know what to do with them, ive looked at the engine bay and ive got no idea what i'm looking at lol, not as straight forward as a skyline.

I agree, that it'll be good to have a comparison.

Specialising in all Italian cars.

I'd just check and see if their expertise & computer setup is up to speed, not having a Mazza before.

Years ago, when dealing with father Tom, he even made up a front strut brace for me from scratch and charged $280 only after 3.5hrs

They do injector cleaning for the local Mitsubishi Service Ctr etc etc.

PS I've just called Danny now, and he says that all's sweet to service (or diagnose issues) on your 3200GT. Parts are no problem either.

If you do decide to call, I gave Danny our first names.

PPS I visited (albeit momentarily) the Maserati Service Centre in Modena Italy when there in '06. Took some pics of Q'portes hehe

Cheers T

you're definately loco for buying a mazza but atleast for a while you're gonna drive a rare sports car.. then when you come to your senses you can always jump into a r34 vspec :) I'd love to see how this car fares on the track .. or is it not going on the track ??

well its meant to go on the track, no point buying something you cant enjoy or atleast make the most of.... then again, my gtst still hasn't officially been on the track yet lol, just a texi and cruises, (alittle embarrassing for an SAU exec lol)

How hard could it be? I guess it has a cap up the top where you put the oil in and a plug down the bottom where the oil comes out :)

???? pictures of the engine bay are on page 2..... i dont see no oil cap lol.... and all this gay plastic underneath it.... hence why i through the skylines plastics away

Do you usually have problems finding holes to put fluids in? :P

Jokes aside, it would probably be best to take it to someone with some kind of certification. That way if they stuff it up it is (hopefully) on their hands :P

no no noooooo!!!! I cop that from my gf aswell, not on sau aswell lol.

I havn't studied the books yet, it'll say it in there, should be obvious once ive been thrown in the right direction. main problem with these cars is theres so much crammed into such a small space... the skyline really has a massive amount of room under the bay.

anyway thanks for your support mat :P heheh

  • 2 weeks later...

I think I mentioned the other week - this is a f**king great car. I love the attitude of a company that thinks their v8 doesn't make enough power so they chuck 2 turbs on it. the later (boring) one is all ferrari driveline, this one is brilliant.

and gorgeous interior too.

might break down heaps, but at least it will look great on the tow truck

Is it the manual or did they come with the tiptronic?

I used to see a few as there is a mod in Leichhardt that specialises in Alfa's that services a fair few of them as well.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
