My predictions

The Honda powered Pro Lotus' already do 32's on slicks and will run 34's-35's on R's, which I think will be good enough to win :D

Waldo and Lofty are currently in the 36-37 range and are hoping there cars will do 35's in ideal conditions on new bags...but they have not been able to do it yet. I cannot see anyone going faster than a 34 though.

PRO 34's

OPEN 39's

CLUB 44's I have already done 44's in a CLUB GTR, and I think it would be fast enough to win.

On another note...RE WED and THURS PRACTICE DAYS.

These days are not just for Superlap cars as some people believe, they are open to anyone.

WED is fully booked and there are still spots for THURSDAY. You will have to pre book for these days even if you want to get in the gate. No spectators will be allowed on WED or THURSDAY.

I am instructing on WED and THURS to help some of these OS people. If you would like to book a spot on THURS contact

Semis or not, I reckon if the open cars aren't down to super car times (ie 1.32) there has been a shitload of money wasted! remember the taxis run small slicks

And I've got to say again, I am amazed how little track time the international drivers have done, even the best drivers will not do their best laps straight up.

Thats why i woudl love to know how good the V8 control tyres are? Considering that the 2010 lap times are no quicker then 2002 lap times I suspect they are pretty shit in terms of outright speed over a single lap. Perhaps a soft comound semi, in bogger diam and width so able to better manage temps, combined with lighter weights and more power/aero...

I suspect you could well be right Duncan, but when you get to the pace of these cars i think you really need to know what you are doing with regards to development so that requires drivers and mechanics... at these speeds a simple sum of parts does not equal pace. So will be interesting to see all the cars with lots of bespoked engineering and how they go compared to a V8 Supercar with a turbo inline 6!??!?!?!

...at those speeds / lap times i am a big believer is less is more!

My prediction, a low 1:33 will win Pro. A 1:38 will win Open...and a cheating GTR will win the R35 GTR class with a low 1:43 :) At least the EVOS have been out electotoothbrushed with the R35

:P A cheating GTR ? Not even at the event yet and people getting accused of cheating already....

boxhead - check natsoft online throughout the day. I know some meets its updsated after each race, hopefully the same for superlap.

I wont be there friday however working saturday so at least I'll see something even if its for 5mins!

Of course they are cheating. They have uber power and great power delivery. Great chassis and awd system. Great gearboxes, decent std brakes and many only need modded shock bodies to make the shocks adjustable height and accept some slightly different springs to be even better handlers!!!! They are a very quick car and receptive to mods....and they are a $160k. The EVO 9s were the previous cheater spec for the class. The R35 seems to be the perfect car for the class and rules this year.

LOL when something is so good straight out of the factory it takes away some of the romance of throwing spanners at them and making them go quicker :) So cheaterers car.

What will be itneresting is to watch someone throw 150k at one and put a stroker in it. Put something like twin TD06-25Gs on it. Put a PPG gearset in it. Throw some uber 6k a corner shock at it. Rip all the mod con luxury bits out of it and try to get it down to around 1500kgs. Not sure what f anything needs to be done to the computers, but if they are like EVOs then there is probably some time in the tuning of the awd system.

Surely there are going to be mind altering quick R35s in years to come...not sure you are going to see any tuned 997 PDK turbos in Aus (not that they are eligible anyway)

I know the car i want to run, but having a bit of trouble finding the £100,000 to buy it  Its cheater spec, but in a good vs evil sort of way :)

for those of us stuck at work on the friday or saturday is there some sort of email list or sms type list we can get on to get updates during the day?

Not sure if natsoft will upload quick enough through out the day..But will talk to Timing about this

Pretty sure there will be updates on the Superlap website throughout the day...But if not will also chat to the guys about this..

280mm wide slick isn't all that small.

I'm going with 32 for open because the Lotus wasn't any slower on semis than slicks last time they ran in 2008 on the Kumho V70. A very good local driver in a very well sorted car, I think will be hard to beat.

Not to forget some of these cars coming have outrageous power to weight figures, much better than a Supercar, and that front straight is long..... So if they can get similar cornering pace to a V8 SC, and be quicker on the straight, then yeah, fast.

exactly most of the guys on here seem to be assuming it will be an aussie car that will win and basing their times off that.... yeah the OS cars are un-known in this neck of the woods but as marlin pointed out some of them have very serious power to weight ratios and very accomplished drivers. things could get very interesting if any of the OS challengers are firing on all cylinders so to speak.

I assume, perhaps wrongly that whilst there are no doubt going to be great drivers punting very fast cars, I assumed that the drivers would be a 1 second gap to a professional driver, so that is another reason why i think they will be a tad slower then the V8 Supercars. Will be great if i was wrong though!

I dunno, seems to me only the Cyber Evo and Scion have any real power to weight advantage over the HPE... And that's only the one aspect of performance. The Lotus platform has many other advantages - scale-model-like frontal area, low low low Cg, low polar moment of inertia, factory developed aero, etc Then factor in years of development on our tracks in our conditions with a very fast driver at the wheel who's very familiar with EC and the car. They won't be easy to beat IMO - if they are on the right tyres... there's no doubt they left a second or two behind due to tyre choice last time.

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
