if Webber wanted RBR to back him over Vettel, he probably shouldn't have thrown it into the fence. I would be reluctant to put all my eggs in that basket now too. If he hadn't, he would have been gifted the win when Vettel's engine let go, and the points situation would be:

Webber 245

Alonso 224

Hamilton 207

Vettel 206

...and the decision on whether or not to back one particular driver would have been done and dusted. Instead they have to decide if its worth the risk of backing the driver with the most points but who had a brain explosion over the one who in recent races has been outperforming his team mate in every aspect (including composure) in recent races.

If one were to go back to the start of the 2010 season and have a look at how unlucky Vettel was the situation would almost certainly be all over (without doing the maths). Wouldn't have been a contest really and if it's true that RBR are building the 2011 car around Seb.... then I couldn't blame them for doing so!

Mark Webber would be a world champion already without bad luck too.

Nice try Talbo but you can't rewrite the scoreboard on coulda shoulda woulda's otherwise Barrichello and a host of others would have been multiple world champions too.

Really, how so? edit: Silly me, I just remembered that Rubens gave MS that GP win in Austria 2002.... the one everyone including Rubens forgets MS gave back in the USA the same year.

Not trying to re-write a scoreboard, just pointing out how unlucky Vettel has been earlier this year.

Well, I had a dream last night. In a very close quali Webber was racing Vettel on their hot laps and Webber got pole ahead of the two Fezz. In the conference Alonso called Webber am Aussie Champion and upon hearing started crying saying that he is nothing compared to recognised Aussie champions...he then started to talk about Weary Dunlop, Doohan and Don Bradman...?!?!??!?!!?

Wierd dream, but lets hope it was right and it is Webber on pole for the race!

If all the cars remain reliable for the final 2 races, Alonso will probably win the WDC.

Here is the math:

SV: wins both: 256

MW: 2nd in both: 256 (SV ahead on wins)

FA: 3rd in both: 261 (still beats MW and SV)

FA: 3rd in 1, 4th in 1: 258 (STILL beats MW and SV)

LH: wins both: 260

LH: wins 1, 2nd in 1: 253

MW: wins 1, 2nd in another: 263

FA: 2nd in 1, 3rd in another : 264

In other words, if MW doesn't win at least ONE of the races, FA really just has to score 3rd and 4th, provided LH doesn't win both. And EVEN if MW wins 1 and comes 2nd in another, FA just has to score 2nd and 3rd to win.

Of course this assumes both FA and MW don't crash/blow up in the race.

The only thing realistic thing MW can hope for is FA's last engine to need replacing before the race. But even with a 10 place grid drop, FA could conceivably still score 4th.

I agree Vettel has been unlucky.

He is genuinely quick (last race he was 7 hundredths quicker in quali than MW) all done under pressure. He is a potential WDC.

He has also made rash decisions, he has damaged wings, he has crashed into his team mate, he has crashed into Button, he seems to be harder on engines and drivelines hence the failure rate has been higher, he has been given uncompromised pit strategies and still he is barely a mathematical chance unless Alonso bins it. Plus he is a bit of dick.

Webber choked last time out which sucks for me because I know he isn't the most talented driver, physically he is handicapped by the size of his frame, he is a whisker slower today than he was a few years ago but he finally has a tier 1 car and a genuine opportunity, additionally I am a patriotic.

Carn WEBBER!!

(If he can't win I am going for Mr Handsome)

if reports are to be believed... Trulli is almost out of F1!!

almost the best news of the year

You mean no more 'Trulli trains'? I give him some credit, he was a great qualifier. I remember him sticking a crappy Jordan on the front row at Monaco about 10 years ago and then holding up the entire field while Schuey raced off into the distance. He also had the better of Alonso over their season together at Renault in 2004. Alonso only overtook his points tally after Renault shunted Trulli out with a few races to go when they learned he had signed for Toyota. He would have kicked himself when Alonso won the title for Renault the next year.

As for Red Bull, they have a brilliant car and Adrian Newey is a genius but their team management and reliability is 3rd rate and it will prob cost them. The moment things get tough (ie a little bit of rain) Red Bull will shoot themselves in the foot. Webber needs a nice dry quali and race. Good luck to him

If RBR were any bigger c**ts with the way they manage their team and their drivers they would have red cars with a horse symbol on the front!

Webber f**ks up a lot behind the wheel but the way they have obviously favoured Vettel (despite him breaking his car all the time) and then cried foul when Webber speaks out about favouritism is pretty despicable.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
