Hi guys,

Wanting to strap on some real horses because 158kw isent enough coming from my gts4 and most likely less, I'm Looking at 250awkw and I duno crap about turbos or prices so! i got a quote of $1600 for a ATR43G3 520HP turbocharger with high pressure actuator and braided oil feed line.

I'm looking for criticism and any ideas...input at all with regards to the turbo i got quoted with and if there is any beta options for my gts-4 thanks!

that turbo that your talking about is the hypergear one and they are good turbos for there price but as pual said if you want only 250 then a hi flow would be a better option since keeps it looking more stock and less fabrication in intallation but if you want more power down the track will be better to go for the atr43

I just bought that Turbocharger (ATR43g3) for my RB25 (internal gate). Product itself arrived in good time and looks fantastic sitting on the floor. While i havent finished the install yet. I can see that it looks fairly bolt on, except for the turbos water lines not being needed anymore, and a short segment of intercooler piping will need making up. They are the main things that stand out as needing a bit more effort.

Which rear housing you looking at? I opted for the .63 for better response.

That price is a bit higher then i paid new from Hypergear. Is that including install or tune etc?

Also. Do you have a suitable Fuel pump and set of injectors to suit the specified power level?

Ye, The price was given just for the turbo itself man no tune or install i think.. he didn't say much.

we left the rear housing as is cos i duno crap about turbos man so i left that work to him,

as for fuel pump and injectors their next on my list Bosch 040 and some sexy injectors.

i wont be installing until i have all the required parts as I'm buying as i earn the cash its going to be a patient build.

Luke let me know how she goes when u finish the install because I'm really considering the ATR43G3.

Try and go for a ride in a 250awkw RB20 before starting the mods. If you are chasing a number I suspect you will find that the car will be far too laggy and not to your liking. Especially if you are trying to do it with an internal gate turbo on the std manifold. Best bet as always is find yourself a 320hp HKS or Apexi turbo and throw it on for a grunty 220awkws. Unless of course you like the lag and hit of a turbo that is a tad too big. And if the turbo you are looking at is rated for 520hp then i say it would be a "very laggy/big hit of power" type of delivery

Why get a 520hp turbo for 250rwkw? Pointless.

IMO settle for 230rwkw and get a HKS2530. Best turbo for the job unless you setup upto 260-270rwkw and get a trust kit or something. However it will be noticeably laggier.

230-260rwkw is a nomans land for RB20's it seems. Not a lot suits.

Well you are going to need lot of boost to crack a stock RB20 to 250 All Wheel KWs. I really don't see any thing smaller then a 3076 can do that unless that.

The price quoted also includes a high pressure actautor.

If you owned a RB20det (which I owned 3) you will find they are very difficult to make any thing above 230rwkws. Same turbo at same boost level made heaps more power on a RB25 and even my CA (worked). lol

I was asked to quote a turbo that can do 250KWs Not Rear wheels, But All Wheels with a stock RB20det a GTS4, which you are going to lose about 20% to front wheels. So even you can managed 230rwkws off a HKS2530 on a Rear wheel drive car does not mean you see it on a all wheel drive car.

I believe 3076 profile in .69 rear (I'm also considering .63 since its a smaller engine) is good for his application. We can build turbos in any specs, so feel free to give your opinion based on RB20dets.

You can make 260rwkw with a TD06 kit, it's not hard, and they are not a 600hp turbo. So where is the logic in neding 600hp worth of turbo for 250rwkw?

I've actually owned two RB20's over the years as well btw.

230rwkw, same shit AWKW/RWKW. I take it you do not understand how the 4WD system actually works?

So... a bit of information.

It's be tried, and proven 5 times now that AWKW/RWKW with ATTESSA is near enough to the same. It is NOT fulltime 50/50 split like a WRX.

DirtGarage tested it with i think 400rwkw give/take and i think the difference was less than 10kw. So put that down to the dyno variance if you need to attribute to anything.

The transfer case does not "magically" suck up 20% at all in factory form. Never has, never will.

So you will make 230rwkw from a HKS2530, just like everyone else. It will be 230awkw with the Nissan 4WD system.

Just to make it a little easier to absorb the awkw = rwkw for gtrs, I had mine tuned at 340awhp. Last month we had a dyno day but it was a 2wd dyno and so I had to drop the front shaft to go on. Guess what? Same power. Its a different dyno and a hotter day too so its up to you guys to decide if the dyno and temperature would make that extra 10% difference in power. To me? Its f**k all difference.

Regarding to rwkws and awkws I've seen different. I will dig some dyno readings out tomorrow.

any way, based on the TD06 that we high flowed its almost identical to a GT3076 52T. I didn't even have to scrap materials off the exducer of the turbine housing and inducer of the comp housing. Since I've managed 248rwkws with that setup at 21psi so possible 250rwkws+ externally gated at 24psi.

Request was to build a bolton turbo. doesn't sounds like he's not going to run external gate and change every thing to suit it. Well up to the customer.

The OP asked for idea's.

I am simply saying his idea of 250rwkw, should be revised to a slightly lower level, with much higher benefits.

Why would he want a poor and laggy 250rwkw when he can have a reasonably responsive 230rwkw?

550hp comp wheel vs what, 350hp.

I say reasonably responsive as at the end of the day its still a RB20. Bugger going ~150hp bigger in turbo for just 20rwkw is to put it simply, silly.

2530 will have a much meatier range. While the lag buster is spooling, the HKS turbo will already be seeing 20psi and hauling ass down the road.

For a steet car, i know what i'd be wanting, a faster car and that is what a smaller turbo appropriate to the aim will provide.

Well once again I was asked to quote some thing to sit comfortably at 250AWKWs. Not 230rwkws. and from experience 2530 is not going to make 230AWKWs comfortably on a stock RB20det GTS4.

like I said I have managed 248rwkws on a 3076 52T .63 rear at 21psi with RB20det. I'm confident 3076 56T can do 250AWKWs+

So i will be recommending this profile. 2530 profile we can build that no problem, Its very responsive but not going to archive the 250AWKWs goal you originally asked for.

As i've said 230rwkw is the same as 230awkw. It's been proven by enough people, with enough experience, for me to accept that it is true.

These are guys with much more powerful setups.

If they notice no difference, then how a setup 200kw less is going to notice some mystical drop i do not know.

The only time i've seen extra power loss occur is with cars that have modified transfer cases that are purposely built to lockup far more than the factory one to give more drive to the front.

But again, they are far from common place.

Even Roy/Troy agree's with me. Going the extra 20-30kw just makes it a laggy streeter.

We'll have to wait for the OP to come back and post up what his thoughts are on the matter.

Reading on and on different opinions, Ive decided that nismoid makes a lot of sense, now I'm not gonna say err i want the bigger turbo because its rated at more hp knowing i know crap all about turbos like a dumb ass pardon my french lol, but after reading i can say yeah i do want a more responsive setup, 230awkw sounds sweet as to be honest and i don't think that laggy craps gonna help me for street use.

Now I don't wanna keep posting different topics as I think 230 awkw sounds ideal, if I'm going to be looking deep into this setup I wana know the best bits and pieces to throw into her and being police friendly if you know what I mean..

Most likely going to purchase off hypergear so nismoid if you dont mind can you gimi the name of the turbo with specs eg rear housing n stuff so i can speak to them about it? im going to be after the responsive 230awkw one and if your bored and think you can give me a hand with my build any tips with parts n good buys would be greatly appreciated.

The profile in 2530 is a GT2860RS with 60mm 65 Trim T3 D-1 comp wheel in .60 Comp housing and T3 .64 rear housing customized with R33's dump pipe pattern. This can be built in both sleeve or Ball bearing.

We can also high flow this into your stock comp and turbine housing.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
