Ha!ROFLMAO! Black Thunder, you say?Classic!I wonder if the horrible media types at Black Thunder Central(104.7)have more respect for the fabled stove taillights...Or maybe they'll jump on the rising wave of stereotyping and label your car,and all of ours,"killer Skylines"?

Dont worry Jayce, wasnt in the 'line, not giving them any bait, but i dont think the Daihatsu Applause owners club would be too happy with me...

And just to add my two cents to the whole P plate death thing, im pretty sure i read in the paper that the p plate accidents causing death/serious injury number has gone down over the last few years, so mayb these days they're either doing it more spectacularly (sp?) or the media is building it up more, personally i think its a combination of the two

"im really fired up over this whole bullshit debate, a young guy crashes his import and all of a sudden left wing pinkos come out with these ideas"

Sorry veilsider r33, You are giving the "Left Wing Pinkos" a bad name.

The media and the Govt are doing the job well enough. (of demonising Skyline owners)

My opinion - the power is in the head and the foot of the driver. Self Control of both. It's not an age issue, not a gender issue, not a type of car/truck/bus/train/plane/tredly issue, not just an experience issue either. It's a common sense issue.

Some times sh!t happens. Prepare yourself to deal with consequences when you make choices. Then get over it and move on - if you live!

Even the worlds best race car drivers have accidents and not all survive.

All living things including Humans take risks.

PS.

I didn't show commonsense recently and I've been driving for 25 years. It easily could have been my GTR on the front of the CT last week. So I am not a P Plater and I'm not young, hence I disagree with you both.

It could then be argued that common sense comes with age but point in fact - it doesn't. We oldfolk just start taking less and more calculated risks.

I agree with you Richard...

Its all about choices...

Were all crazy drivers sometimes, but some people just think if they put there foot to the floor, they will look cooler or some crap...

Knowing what my car can do, i do limit myself to things and im prob talking for alot of people here. Some people just have not grown up yet to realise "CARS" do kill!

My opinion - the power is in the head...and the foot...of the driver.

Sounds like Fred Flintstone's car.

Anyway I disagree, I tried using my head on the accelerator once and there were problems seeing over the dash. Took me ages to get the ding out of the front bar where it nudged the wall when I was reversing...

Spotted this morning while taking my GTR back to have the air cond fixed

Hi Danooh;

Mind if I ask where you are getting it fixed and if you're happy with the outcome? My compressor (make that the car's compressor) is making wierd ass noises, might be a bearing. My ass sometimes makes wierd compressor noises too but I'm not goin' there...

Anyway would be good to take it somewhere that's worked on them before.

Cheers

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
