GT2835/GT3071R are more or less the same thing. On a completely stock RB25 up to around 16psi you are unlikely to see much advantage on a GT3076R vs a GT3071R as they have the same turbine flow and the GT3071R's compressor is still fairly efficient up to the mid/high 200rwkw mark. The GT3076R will start shining as boost or flow (ie, doing cams or other such mods which improve your engines efficiency) start going up. Given the spool between the GT3071R and GT3076R is barely different and there is a good 50hp more to be had from the GT3076R I found the GT3076R a better compromise given one can get greedy.

Don't see why everyone is going off on boost levels though as the thread starter seems to be focused on response, so more importantly i think the size of the ass end comes into focus.

I personally wouldn't bother with a GT3071R with a .82a/r hotside, but since you're asking - I'd say you'd be pretty hard pressed to tell the difference between a .82a/r GT3071R and a .63a/r GT3076R in terms of response. I would like to know how different a GT3071R and a GT3076R with the same hotside would be, even - I am sure there will be a little difference but it can't be a huge amount!

Going from a .63 to a .82a/r housing made my GT30R slightly lazier up to 3000rpm, the rest of the rev range it seems much of a muchness.

Were these both Garrett internal gate housings?

How were the off-on boost transition between the two housings?

Was it wheel spin city with the .63 or was it controllable?

Just to throw my 2c in , there is another version of that GT3076R (real one) available and the only difference is that its compressor wheel is 52 trim instead of 56 trim . I had GCG dig me up one and they even tracked down the matching port shrouded compressor housing so all good .

There has been a lot of discussion in the past about GT3071R's and GT3076R's and I think the feeling here has been that the real or uncropped GT3071R while good goes to a point and falls off towards the upper end of the rev range .

HKS are not stupid nor are they rocket scientists but they don't tend to market things that don't get results . In their line up there is no turbo using that GT3071R cartridge and the closest ones have the cropped turbine and offer all three compressor trim sizes , not just the largest or 56 trim 71mm one like Garrett does .

I'm only guessing but it's possible that the full sized 60mm 84 trim GT30 turbine doesn't drive those 71mm compressor wheels as fast as they'd like to be so HKS opted for the cropped turbine to get a bit more shaft speed . When they used these 71mm compressors in RB apps they also tended to use a port shrouded compressor housing so I'd say they were masking too much airflow innitially (smaller turbine) but making strong mid range power and acceptable top end .

What HKS did do was have a 48 compressor trim version of their GT3037 (GT3076R) and their lists show it as having the same airflow capabilities as the GT2835 Pro S - meaning that 71mm compressor in 56 trim with a port shrouded compressor housing . the GT3037 48 trim used a plain or non shrouded comp housing BTW .

I chased and finally bought a 52 trim GT3076R/GT3037 because I'm looking for a little more response than the usual 56T GT3076R and a bit more top end than a GT3071R . I opted for the Garrett GT30 IW housing in 0.82 A/R because I think it's the best trade off for response and power .

Its still in a box because I'm sorting out the Z32 AFM and tuning in the near future .

My engine has a modified head and Poncams so should do good things with this turbo I hope .

IMO HKS turbos are overpriced given the similarities to the Garrett equivalents nowadays.

Waiting patiently to see your results.... too bad couldn't see the results of that said turbo on a stock head.

Is this Gt3076r 52 trim available thru Garrett now or was it some thing Gcg put together for u?

GCG ordered it through Garrett and it came from Japan as a special order , the cartridge then the compressor housing .

It looks just like any other GT3076R except the compressors inducer is 2mm smaller .

GCG fitted the GT30 IW turbine housing from local stock and I think a one bar large can actuator .

They have the part numbers as they've had that cartridge (center section and wheels) before so it should be still available . Just happens to be the one HKS uses in the GT3037 52T . Same for the comp housing but without the HKS tag and bell mouthed inlet .

Garrett at Chipping Norton may be able to fix you up , I go through GCG because they've been good at findings bits for me that can be hard to source and are closer to me .

Michael at GCG would know what you are after , I'll try to find the part numbers .

Cartridge (CHRA) is 700177-5006 .

Cartridge number . 700177-5006

Comp Housing No . 436157-0022

Generally I believe Garrett supply all these GT3037/GT3076R units as a cartridge and compressor housing only . The reason being that HKS have their own unique series of turbine housings and if you want a Garrett one you option one of theirs .

PLEASE get any supplier to double check these part numbers as I did when I ordered mine , I don't want to be responsible for someone ordering the wrong bits . I try to be accurate but its a fair wad of cash on the line so you have to get it right . Michael will know for sure .

    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
