If you're experiencing bad fuel economy, try replacing the oxygen sensor if it hasn't been replaced in the last 50,000km (or if you don't know whether it has been replaced or not). $120ish item, extra 100km to a tank...and it's quite common for them to be worn out.

lol... not too many 300rwkw cars running an O2 sensor mang....

mine got disabled years ago

oh and FWIW i get ~350 per tank... (RB25 @ 285rwkw/19ps)

Ahh read thread ffs. I didn't direct that at Chris or I would have quoted him!

I'm burning up here.

:P

out of interest, why dont/cant you run an o2 sensor?

My car is doing 0km per 0L at the moment >.> Too busy sitting on a train that smells like bad breath.

Which train you catching at the moment, Chuck? I'm working in the city now so am training to work at the moment.

Although I'm taking a squizz at a 98 zx9 tomorrow (kawasaki...*shudder*) so this may be my last day on 84 wheels!

lol...

Peter - RE: O2 sensors, if the tuner has adjusted all the cells sufficiently, the O2 sensor can be made redundant.

All the O2 really does it on light load leans off mix and so on by way of mapping. Nothing you cannot do via a tune in the light throttle/load cells far as i understand it.

My car generally gets as good or better economy than cars with less power and O2 sensors :P

Ok,

My fuel economy is 'I don't care'

What I do is put petrol in the tank, drive it and fill it up when it's almost empty.

Simple really.

Mine is pretty poor!! I am getting about 19-21 L/100ks

I am ALWAYS at the petrol station!!!

:D not so flash for the wallet

You need to get the car check ASAP if you haven't done so already. You are spending too much money unnecessarily on petrol. Skylines can do much better than that.

Comparison for fuel consumption is a good exercise because you get to see how well most Skylines run over time, especially with such contrasting setups. The newer cars like the R34 should have better fuel economy, whereas the older models if well maintained/serviced should perform almost as good. 400-450km to a tank sounds like the average for skyline drivers.

During my drive to Sydney I managed to get over 600km to a tank on V-Power and about the same amount on the drive back to Melbourne. This is a stockish untuned R32 GTR and driving a constant 110km/h in 5th gear (which every GTR should be able to do or better).

My next car BTW is going to be an R35 GTR, it averages 12.7 lt\100km and goes waaaaaaay faster than my car.

you drive a roadtrain?

Actually I did the maths wrong. It's 96 wheels :)

6 carriage train, 16 wheels per carriage :D

But I'm doing the 2 wheel commute now. Sooo much faster, and more fun, than 96.

If anyone sees a blue '98 ZX9 weaving through traffic somewhere between Hurstbridge, Ivanhoe and the City (Collins St) gizza wave, and get outta my way :)

For some reasons, I seemed to get more k's from a tank of 95 than a tank of V-power, why is that?

Difference is 10.5L and 12L

maybe you drive it a bit different because you know you just put in shitter fuel?

    • The speedo's can be very conservative, when my Mazda NC MX5 speedo is showing 118kph, the GPS, and a calibrated radar.... cop mate.....hits me at around 110kph +/- 1 or 2 kph, and that is on a 215/45 17, stock tyres size is 205/45 17 as well, so weirdly conservative with stock tyre size When my Commodore speedo red 116kph GPS had me at 110kph After doing some offset and clearance measurements to see what can fit the NC on 17x8 +40, without guard rolling or rubbing anything at my current ride height, I've decided that when my tyres are toast, I'm going to fit 225/45 17 and see where that gets me IRT actual speed of my speedo and GPS/radar From the online calculator I should be still be doing around 5kph under an actual 110kph when the speedo is showing 110kph My ADHD requires that when I'm doing 110kph on the speedo, that the actual road speed is actually really close to that, and not alot slower And going from 205 to 225 still keeps the car within the %/mm allowable in the NSW vehicle rules and regulations, which is nice, as long as I'm looking at the latest version that is.....LOL https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-13.464-Light-vehicle-modifications-Vehicle-Standards-Information-No-6-November-2013.pdf
    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
