usmair
Hey guys so ive been informed by my tuner that my GT3071R is on its way out... and he has highly recommended that I buy another turbo because my current one will not last longer than a few weeks... He doesnt believe (and I agree) that we should rebuild the current one as it will not be feasible So I'm now after an internally gated GT3076 (figured might aswell try to get some more power if im gonna spend all that money) tried to do a search on here but im getting like 24 pages of results so yeah since I bought my turbo 2nd hand off a guy on SAU, I have no clue where to shop for turbos besides nengun and ebay the only place I've found is www.tweakit.net I could ring around turbo shops like GCG and all that, but does any one have any websites that I can go to compare prices? Cheers U Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/304595-where-to-buy-a-turbo-from/ Share on other sites

hypergear
If your turbos is still making boost without too much noise its lot cheaper to just get it rebuild with a new set of Garrett bearing kit which will cost only $660 assume your stock wheels and housings are in ok condition. We will email you a inspection report before starting any work. So you know what you will be paying and why your turbo has failed. Parag0n
Can vouch for Horsepowerinabox http://www.horsepowerinabox.com/, established company been around for ages, plenty of their turbos in some great machines. I prefer to buy from a company thats been around for a while, last thing you want is something with an ebay knockoff in it. If you want to rebuild your turbo I also reccomend GCG http://gcg.com.au/ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/304595-where-to-buy-a-turbo-from/#findComment-5045981 Share on other sites
Ruff Ryda
Rebuilds are expensive unless it's just bearings is that right? I was under the impression ball bearing turbos weren't worth doing anything to once they start to get play. It's usually cheaper to just buy another one. Also a GT3076R internally gated can be done. To open it up properly an exernal gate on a high mount would be better though. What turbo manifold you running? What's the size of the engine? RB20 I would recommend the 0.63 A/R @ 21 PSI but an RB25 could take the 0.82 A/R @ 24 PSI with the extra displacement. As for turbo purchases these sites listed already are the ones I know of unless you go on another forum hunt. R31Nismoid
^ Nope. It's 100% cheaper to rebuild. The Garrett cartridge itself is around $1000. Add in balancing and refit, you're saving at least $500. You get to use toye housings, and wheels again. Send it to GCG for the rebuild, they have the best equipment in the country. They will also be able to provide reasons why the turbo has become tired/worn in the first place - and IMO this is the [/b]most important thing to know.[/b] There is no reason a ball bearing turbo should fail without a ridiculous amount of KM's on it, or extremely poor car servicing routine. usmair
wow thanks for the reply guys, will definately enquire about rebuilding the turbo... when i gave it to the tuner, it was making boost just fine, but was just taking forever to hit full boost (was getting full bost at like 5500RPM, something to do with a leak near the wastegate) so when he took it out to get it bushed, he got a "turbo expert" to look at it and he said it was about to go... so Im gonna have to stop by and see whats actually wrong it it. its a GT3071R, and it made 260rwkw stupid question, but can I hiflow it or getting bigger internals for the turbo... wanted to hit my goal of 275rwkw (i know its only a number but I feel like I didnt meet my objective)... might as well give it a crack while the turbo is out GCG are probably the best ppl to talk to about this right... Ruff Ryda
I'll assume it's an RB25DET according to your pic. If so you sohuld be able to hit over that figure with step 1 cams (290 RWKW or so?). The GT3071R is a great turbo for response and power and work better with cams. Get some step 1 cams so you keep VCT too . Get a set like these: http://www.nengun.com/hks/camshafts-nissan They drop right in, keeping VCT and no need to upgrade valve springs unlike the larger step 1s such as JUN or Tomei. Get a Rocker Arm Stopper kit just in case for another $80 and you're set. Good luck. As honestly to get hung up on a number is stupid. One dyno will say 260, the next will say 275. So who cares? Rebuild it as is, or be prepared to hurt response by going to something bigger. As for CAMS - they will not magically get you to 290rwkw, so i totally disagree with the post above this. I made 370rwkw through factory RB25 CAMS. Same as Guilt-Toy has done with a 25/30 and a GT35. They are not a problem. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/304595-where-to-buy-a-turbo-from/#findComment-5049664 Share on other sites
paulr33
agree ball bearing shouldnt just "fail" my ball bearing std unit has 220,000 and still goes strong and cams wont add magical power as others have said, you might even loose power Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/304595-where-to-buy-a-turbo-from/#findComment-5049735 Share on other sites
JonnoHR31
MTQ engine systems (Dandenong) http://www.mtqes.com.au/locations.php +1. they can repair your current turbo aswell Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/304595-where-to-buy-a-turbo-from/#findComment-5049792 Share on other sites
wolverine
Cam haters. I'm not sure who thinks they magically add power........ I reckon there is about 10-15kw going to 256 deg poncams but whether it is worth it is an entirely different question. I would rebuild the turbo, re-tune and be happy or spend the extra money on buying a GT3076 if you want a bigger number. Duncan
pfft stop wasting money on garret stuff if it dies that quick and go to ebay/china you can blow 10 $200 turbos before a garret one is cheaper.
