read the last post on page one mate, the GTRS is a 2871 52T in HKS housings. the 2535 has yet to be mentioned.

yeah that's nice. But it doesnt tell me where the HKS 2535 fits in. afaik it falls about 15kw short of a gt-rs, with killer response.

so what is it's garrett equiv? just how much smaller is it than the 2871.

if the 2530 is good bang for buck, but somewhat underpowered, and the gt-rs is a great performer, but way overpriced, the 2535 should be Goldilocks' pick.

Just breifly , work to do , the HKS "GT2535" has a 69 x 51.6mm 56 trim compressor wheel . Judging by the barb sizes the compressor housing is probably the same as a "GT2530" , T04B 0.60 A/R . Note these housings can be the truck or Nissan style .

My lists show the power ratings of the 2530/2535/2540 as 320/340/350 PS , PS is supposed to be very close to HP figures .

The GT2871R's use a 71.1mm compressor in 48/52/56 trims , the GTRS has the 52T one .

I cant match that 2535 compressor to anything else on the garrett site, interesting.

as for being more responsive la la la, somehow i dont think the GTRS will come accross laggy in the slightest... i wish i could have the HKS GTRS housing and the housing off the HPIAB "RB special 2871" to compare.... if the housing is built to be the correct AR for that actual turbine and not a ground out RB housing that could be a very potent turbo.

tho to point out.. HPIAB sell that turbo for nearly 2k on its own... the GTRS kit comes complete with all the gear ready for bolt on for 3k... its not THAT much of a hike for guaranteed results

Now that threw a spanner into the works, ive wanted to see a .8x hotside on that sort of turbo matched to an RB25 for a while now... shame garrett dont product a T3 footprint 2871 from the box, the available T2 comes with both .64 and .86

So build a GT2871 52T in a .86 T28 turbine housing with OEM nissan rb25det pattern would be very similar to a GT2540?

I do not think that combination would be very similar, but if you made one, I would want it.

I think the above said combo would be better than a GT2540, and possibly even able to use a 56T.

As promised the GT2535's cartridge number is 446179-19 .

Garrett actually make two 69mm OD compressor wheels in the T3 family .

Part No 446279-0001 69mm x 51.65 56 trim 6.2mm tip height . Normally its bore size is 6.25mm but can be made smaller to suit the GT25BB center sections turbine shaft .

Part No 466279-0002 is 69mm 46 trim .

Both are 6/12 bladed .

Personally I think its easier these days to use the GT2871R cartridges because they are readily available . The 56 compressor trim version is known to be a bit lazy/laggy so I'd say its wise to avoid them if response means anything to you .

My HKS list is not complete and shows a couple of cartridges not identified - 446179-17 and -20 . Pretty sure they would be the GT2510 and GT2540 .

wow a wealth of information in here and I finally find out my turbo is a HKS after a few months of owning it.

If anybody is interested I have a HKS 2530 with the garret front cover with braided lines in Adelaide for $1300

howd the 2530 go man?? i cant put mine on for lik 6 months until my motor is rebuilt! but not sure now on how the go lol. make good power??? also might have a might keen on buyin that turbo i live in the hills so not to far out but will let you know if hes keen!

Really for a single turbo Skyline the important part of those HKS bolt on turbos is the turbine housing . I think the 0.64 A/R T3 flanged HKS housing is common to the 2510/2530/2535/2540/GTRS turbochargers - the RB20/25 spec ones .

Note you would have to have one off a 2510 re profiled to suit the larger turbine used in the other four turbos .

Also note HKS replaced the old 2510 with the non GTR spec GTSS . It has the larger GT28 turbine with the same diameter compressor wheel as a 2510 or 2530 but in 60 rather than 63 trim . Cartridge number 446179-53 .

Theres nothing to stop you using that housing on any of the Garrett GT28 BB based turbos using that same larger GT28 turbine ie a GT2860RS .

In the past I have seen HKS turbine housings at GCG but don't know about the T3 flanged GT28 one .

It goes against the grain but you can possibly achieve much of the same thing with the Hitachi OP6 type housing and a bit of machining . The 76T GT28 turbine is a little larger than the Hitachi ceramic one and people have used this housing on Garrett BB cartridges at times .

Maybe even the RB25 Hitachis turbine housing could be used at a pinch , would keep the mounting and dump flanges in the RB family .

RB25 BB Hi Flows make if anything a little more power than a HKS bolt on GT2530 so the flow through them can't be too sad .

Plus there like ars* holes , every 25T has one ...

Someone here had a Hi Flow made up out of an RB25 Hitachis housings and a GT2871R 48T cartridge . Real good mild dryer from memory .

perhaps the AVO .71 would be an interesting venture then

probably a better option to supply that to GCG and have them profile it up for the 2871 cartridge rather than the HPIAB kinder surprise.. you think a 2871 56T would make the hotside hit a brick wall in the AVO .71 housing? considering they rate it capable of running GT30 series wheels, it would be fairly irresponsible to rate a product as compatible if it couldnt flow that kind of gas.

I'm not sure with these aftermarket turbine housings , I think its a big call to say they can work well with GT28 or GT30 sized turbines and just machine to suit . GCG decided to stop putting GT30 turbines in them because too many people had boost creep issues .

I think you have a bit of room to manoeuver machining Hitachi housings for GT28 turbines but GT30 based turbines need GT30 based turbine housings .

If you look at A GT30 housing you can see that they are not only larger in diameter than a GT28 but wider through the volute as well . I dunno but it possibly has something to do with the wider tips on a GT30 turbine and that the wheel itself is physically deeper than a GT28 turbine .

For whatever reason the GT28 turbine 56 trim 71.1mm compressor is not a good combination response wise . I think the mass off the air that compressor can pump is too great a workload for this turbine and they tend to be laggy on most things . HKS stayed with the 52 compressor trim cartridge in their GTRS and only went with the 56T wheel in their "GT2835" which we know uses the slightly larger cropped GT30 turbine .

Note they didn't use the full sized GT30 turbine here like Garrett did in the GT3071R (700177-23 CHRA) so maybe they though it wouldn't spin the 71.1mm compressor fast enough to be "responsive" .

For RB's HKS seemed to nail it with the GTRS and 2835 Pro S but they did use non garrett hosings both sides in both cases .

Maybe someone needs to ring the machine shop in China and ask them to reset their machines so we can have some T3 flanged GT30 IW turbine housings for the cropped GT30 turbine . Then we can use these cropped GT3071R AKA 2835 cartridges on RB's to plug the gap between GT2871R turbos and GT3076R's , and not have to pay a HKS GT Pro S price for it .

Awesome, that's good to know. I can't wait to get it on and tuned. Do you know if the spec and trims are the same as the previous model? As in what's the difference between a 2530 and a 2530kai?

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since.     • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product,that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
