well with the firmware flashed sammy's you can set up an ethernet network, share your storage drive, and then play off the network using your TV. no need to fuck around swapping shit around.

I hope that's sarcasm.

yes it is lol if you read i take total blame for my stupidity i'm not all that fussed about it shit happens all part of the learning process :)

i still have at least on months worth of driving to get in before i'm off the road for 3 months i rather do 3 months with no license than doing 1 point and f**king that up and getting 6 months

exactly... cbf with a media centre when the TV can read it and process it without having to use HDMI cables etc. it plays full 720p and 1080p rips.

Why would u flash it to use ethernet via a storage drive when it has an ethernet port and wireless capabilities to stream media from a network?

Theres no way im bothering to use a USB key or drive. Thats the reason i built a file server with 9 HDDs.

So if it can read the HD files without an issue from the TV, i will just connect it via the ethernet to my file server or if its easier, just use the samsung wireless.

or use you brain and not use a fail codec that the samsung tv has and use a HTPC/File server and connect it to your pc and watch via that.

i'm currently Building a HTPC but in the meantime i'm using my PC with PS3 media Server software streaming over 1gbit lan to the ps3 connected via HDMI.

Streaming media from the tv is instant fail only play Divx try shoving a mkv container file down it's neck and watch it choke.

jeez defect station setup on wellington rd. Cars were banked up for hours.

The only reason i didnt go down wellington road is cause there was a unmarked stationwagon next to me when turning onto wellington road, pulled into a servo and went the opposite direction haha.

Would have been shafted bad.

Hopefully no one got pulled up from here

lol i went through. at every u turn there was a cop so couldnt get away. car was is somewhat legal so wasnt fased. went through then got pulled over and escorted to the bin lol. got done for 4db over as they let off the accelerator and hid. cops and epa guys were nice. had a laugh. didnt get a fine and told me to send in letter attention it to some random person he gave me a name of and he should drop the fine if i get any as my car was not as bad as the others in there and being first time and all. asked before going through my car which was nice.

there was a reporter there from hereld sun came to me to ask questions. asked me if what they are doing is unfair for what i got done for lol and am i angry about it hahahaha

just laughed and said they are only dong there job.

When you say, HTPC, do you simply mean a PC which you will use as a media hub? What some people consider an HTPC these days is generally lacking in HT

ie. just make a cheap PC with a TV Tuner card and call it an HTPC. Bit like how i refer to my PC as a file server, its hardly a real file server, its just a PC with RAID and lots of SATA ports. Personally i dont see the point in HTPCs. You may as well just use a normal PC and connect it to your HT system like mine already is. I was going to build one last year with the top of the range parts, but realised how much of a waste of time it was.

My TV will be connected to my fileserver directly as a monitor as well as networked so that wont be an issue. I prefer to use a remote vs using a mouse and keyboard however so i will only use it as a monitor if i have no other choice.

If your going to make a serious one, this is the case i was looking at... LUXA2 LM300 Touch Pro HTPC Case. Probably one of the best cases on the market for HTPCs. LUXA is a subdivision of Thermaltake so its not some yumcha brand and has some awesome features.

If you can get your hands on one, the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 is probably one of the better TV cards around. And a full HD sound card like the ASUS Sonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe.

Also make sure you use some quality RAM... none of this MSY special shite. Something like the Coarsair Dominator GT kits etc

whats the most OT anyones done in a pay cycle (monthly)....

one of the guys in my team last pay cycle did 102 hours OT... thats double time OT... so 204 hours standard pay... thats f*kin nuts! think the most i ever bothered to do was about 40 a month. He must have got a fortune last month. He paid over 3k in tax :(

I can beat that... :P

One month, 5 figures.

Over 200+ OT hours on the books. By the end of Aug this year i'd already paid some stupid amount of tax... was already 5 figures i think?

My pay actually was over 6k with around 70-80 OT hours (mine is mostly 2x as well)... although don't see a lot of that after tax at times :)

Ah there is a point :(

Im going to "eventually" get off my ass and build a server that will double as a HTPC. Link it all up and use it for torrents, media and so on.

Pack in half a dozen drives with a RAID card and should be quite nice.

Mainly so i can turn my gaming rig off... otherwise it's running 24x7 which actually uses a bit of electricity :)

Plus with the new ATI cards doing HD audio bitstream etc, i can just send direct over HDMI to my amp nice and easy, less cables, less fuss and let the amp do all the work

i never do OT... i hate doing normal working hours let alone come in when i dont have to.

actually at the moment i think im actually -2 hours lol

id rather be at home with the wife and kids.

Oh and with the new HD to TV (wireless, one button operation) tech intel was showing off @ CES... wireless streaming will make it even easier.

Just wireless it across, no cables...

But i am lazy, and that tech will take a while to filter out so the free 15m CAT6 cables i have acquired will do for now :)

lol 200+ hours OT! f*k that... how would you have any time to do anything other then work and sleep.

12hrs x 7 days... So ye. Not a lot other than sleep-work-home ---repeat

My base is crappy though, i make the serious cash via OT/oncall/loadings/allowances etc etc. I virtually make my yearly wage, and then the same again with everything stacked on top.

haha, well i don't, so hence i don't mind doing the extra hours.

Also stops me from hitting the piss hard friday/sat nights etc and burning through $300. If i can be @ work earning double that... why not :)

hahaha yeah fair enough

when i say HTPC i mean a great kick arse pc with HQ sound card dual HD TV tuners and about 6tb of storage in a antec case that has all the front fascia volume knobs and remote control like this

This is what i've got in mind at the moment

Asus Xonar Essence STX PCI-E Sound Card

Intel Core i5 750

Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3

G.Skill ECO F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO (2x2GB) DDR3

Then i'm waiting for 2tb hdd to drop in price an i will be using my GTX260 as the gfx (so i can play some games on the TV)

and of course the normal wireless keyboard and mouse

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
