niceee mx5.

hows your's goin hamish?

the funds are failing me at the moment :D

will have to sell the rolla to do it, but I'm gonna spend some time slidin it first

need to learn to properly drift an underpowered car

with 300rwkw you don't learn to drift properly, you just learn how to wrangle a wild horse

Hard work is the point lol

the rolla is nearly finished so I'm in need of a new project

an the mx5 will be somehin I can daily with no EPA worries apart from exhaust

I can just throw in the stock suspension and zorst and clear any EPA and have a baller daily

That's why I was so confused :D

Hmmm... I need bigger brakes. Not only do these brakes fail to stop but they'll also look fail when I get my SSRs...

I would put my TT Supra calipers on but people tell me it's not worth all that extra weight.

haha... yeh since i repainted them they look awesome.... and the braking is wayyy up there, especially coming from the 32

if you get a little more power you only weighing it down what 20kgs? max for the whole setup extra.... worth it for better braking that doesnt cost major bucks

woot. just bought a brand new unpainted OEM VW golf MK4 R32 kit.

now the question is, should I get the optional MK5 GTI style front bumper or should I get the regular MK4 R32 front bumper?

probably should just stick to MK4, cos putting a MK5 front is a lil wanky like R34 fronts on R32's. Mind you there's not that many guys no one who've done it.

I've just posted a thread on MR2 forums asking their opinion.

I could probably get late model turbo brakes for fairly cheap. It just sucks not having ABS. Push down too hard and it just locks up.

I guess with bigger brakes I won't have this problem.

Hmm.. What cheap mods can I do in the mean time? :D Just little shit. Like I just bought NeoGauge dash LEDs for $17.

Finally an excuse to rip my dash out again :P

stop wasting money you don't have on pissy little gimmicks.

$17 isn't exactly substantial.. In fact my workmate payed for it using his Paypal and hasn't even asked me for the money yet :D

I just want to do work on the car but there's nothing to do...

i prefer the mk4 looks cleaner and will suit the look your going for

bigger brakes will just lock you up harder. learn to let go of the pedal when you feel it locking up and then reapply pressure... that's what ABS does anyways, just stops you from stomping on the pedal like a full retard.

Won't the extra braking force increase the problem?

My mate said otherwise. Can't remember what his reasoning was though.

Wouldn't it slow down quicker without having to really push down on the brakes?

Confusing shit lol.

Bigger calipers dont help you stop quicker if you are running shit discs (small). Will just have a quicker lock up effect like funky said.

You need to have bigger calipers and discs for it to brake better.

    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY
    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
