I have accrued my $4k system over the past few cars I've owned. It's nothing spectacular. Most of that money is in the $2.5k GPS/DVD headunit, which I got for really cheap after having 2 cheaper units which failed.

I spend a lot of time driving each week. I would go insane without good music I am a musician afterall. My life revolves around music. Cars will always come second.

cost wise i dont think it would be that much different. i'd get fark all for my car if i sell it, say about 12 maybe 13 max.
