Since I bought the car, only one part has annoyed me, the throttle has a mind of its own.

I finally decided to install the EA cable throttle I bought for $50 and now have it all hooked up so im off to the tuners, hopefully before Easter to remap the emanage and take full control away from the ecu. I have no idea what the outcome of this will be but Cihan is confident he can get the bugger to shift etc, have to see how it goes.

I was trying to think which parts the ecu sends a load signal to. Fuel pump, line pressure for auto, Attessa, is there anything else? I will have to send a variable voltage from the emanage to replicate these signals and wire the fuel pump to constant 12v at a guess.

Should be an interesting mod with some great improvements in response if all goes well.

Gutsy move Scotty, hope it works out well, I think it'll make a huge difference, throttle response is my only issue with the whole car. Even with stock power output it's a pain, at your power level it must be a huge frustration.

You're a pioneer, good luck! :)

I did the same conversion in my X-Trail, I got fed up with that fvcking electronic throttle...

You're right, it seams to have a mind of its own, especially when it comes to idle...

I'm using an EMS stinger ECU which controls EVERYTHING when it comes to ignition and injection, so I didn't have to do anything in terms of electronics. Just installed the cable on the pedal and the throttle body on the intake manifold. No sensors, no wiring, I'm not even using a TPS...

Works perfect... needed a tough up tune cos the SR throttle was smaller than the other one, but that's it.

I'd highly recommend this mod if you are planning to do more in the way of engine computer and/or tuning later on. The fly-by-wire system works fine when its not touched at all, as soon as you start playing with ECU things, it looses it's mind.

In your case Scott, go through the service manual and find some diagrams for wiring, see which systems take a signal from the throttle, then use the cable-throttle's TPS to send that signal to those systems, instead of the fly-by-wire throttle's TPS. Shouldnt have to muck around with the E-manage at all, just make sure the voltage from the TPS on the cable throt. is the same as what the electronic throt. would've sent out. Should be fine!

I just finished the cable bracket. :)

The oem tps is a twin opposed signal for error checking. At idle one is 0v and one is 5v, very hard to emulate.

All the load signals come from the ecu as a voltage output so I plan to use the Emanage voltage output map to send a similar signal. :)

Fark, sounds tricky!

Your e-manage plan should work pretty good I reckon.

p.s. nice work on the throttle bracket too!

Hi Cam, I have been enjoying reading about your mods. :)

The ecu will fault instantly if it sees the throttle open without it telling it to, or either tps signal deviate. Best to just let it fault and drive over the top of it. The engine runs at 1200 revs in limp mode and the auto still seems to shift fine with the throttle unplugged.

Yeah likewise, looks like you do some quality work too!

I had an idle that would vary between 2500-3000rpm depending on engine temp and vehicle speed (?)

You've got a bit more of a headfvck going on with that auto box, but seams you've got it all figured out with the E-manage's output maps, but can they be configured to send out a signal dependant on load AND rpm i.e. a 3D map with 2 variables (rpm and load?)

What are you using for engine load? MAP sensor? or stock MAF readings?

Stock airflow at the moment with the Greddy map sensor helping tune. I may as well ditch the airflow but I still need the air temp readings which come from the same sensor. I also don't want to change too much either as I may need to go back to the elec throttle.

I will have to check on the two variable map but it should work well enough with only one.

I spent about 2 hours today with Cihan, I fit the cable throttle on the side of the road and away he tuned. We mapped the idle then the lower load points, once done I did the big test and shifted into drive.

The big grins on our faces as we realised everything was just working, the Emanage was taking full standalone control and still shifting flawlessly. It was priceless. Only issue, the kickdown isnt working, probably as there is no tps on the car now. :P

Very happy with the outcome. More power everywhere, even with the smaller 65mm throttle and instant throttle response and gear changes.

Sorry I couldnt stop to talk Garett, I was in the middle of tuning. :P What did she sound like at 7500?

Sounded great mate. Thought it was you in the distance. Def picked up when you shot off up the hill. Glad to hear it's all running well! Very impressive. You will have to do a 1/4 mile run I think.!

Good to hear scott!

Restored my faith in E-manages, a few people bag them out, but I reckon they do pretty good! Especially when they're set up like yours, taking full control of injectors/spark.

Do you have an idle control valve or anything installed?

The only problem I've got is I can't have the aircon on when I'm sitting idling warm, cos it doesn't recognise the extra load and bump up the idle, so it just stalls! lol So I'm left with a cold idle of 850ish and a warm idle of 1250...

I have the idle valve but didnt use it. Warm idle is 900 and in drive it is 700. Havent tried the aircon yet, I didnt expect to be driving home with the throttle on the car let alone working perfectly.

Very impressed with the Emanage.

In regards to this... do we even have a english or japanese service manual in pdf at all??

Great shit mate! Can't wait to take it for a run tomorrow night

Now I guess you will be hunting down a full size throttle body?

Yeah no idea! try finding at least a car with the same engine (something infinity, cedric, cefiro, has gotta have close to a VQ25) and search eBay...

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
