The young female blondie officer was giving me and evil look at the king st and flinder intersection just after the bridge through crown casino. Saw her noted something down while my car was idling at the red light =\ didn't realise it was the pipe down thing. Then I drove off without knowing that I'm going to have to spend $38

Motherf**kers. Imagine if the talkback radio people got reported...they'd be in such an uproar over it. It's just because we're enthusiasts and we have money / are used to paying fines on time that they think/know they can get away with it.

thanks for the info birds (Y)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news lol.

It shows how far this bullshit has spread...this is just SAU...and only the people who actually post on here. There would be so many Skylines, let alone imports, out there who have had to suffer the indignation of being charged and punished with an offence before being proven guilty.

The way I see it, if you pass the EPA test they should cover the cost of the test and your time for getting the thing there. If they don't want to do it that way then they should equip TMU with reliable equipment to carry out the tests themselves.

Ah well, anyway I'm going to give EPA a buzz on Monday and see if they can sort this unfairness out for me :) I probably have to do the noise test anyway but I think it worth a try.

EPA are somewhat unsympathetic to it...they're nice people but they throw their hands in the air and say it's the law / they have to respond to a police reporting. They will give you a weeks extension on the notice if you ask nicely over the phone. Anymore and you need to submit in writing a request.

your right birds but they wont refund your money cos they might say u have changed the zorst prior to going and having the test.. and the tmu arent smart enough to be able to test you on the spot because its got guidelines when u actually go epa placement of the machine and blah blah

Hey guys,

The f**kers got me on 21st of April I just got the notice in mail,It's the freaking second time i have to waste $39 and have no idea why it's taken this long to receive the notice.

I Hope no on else get the fkn notice.

I don't care as much about the money as the time involved, driving 30km because there's only two places that can do the emissions testing in Victoria...f***ing ridiculous. Bad luck man.

thank goodness i'm broke once again.

And once again, its easier to hassle those with dark tints, regardless of whether its illegal or not, the vic police and their bionic eyes that can immediately tell if a tint is illegal and their bionic ears that can detect an illegal exhaust are infallible, even when properly calibrated equipment state otherwise.

LOL @ the superhero powers of perception our state authorities bestowe our police officers with. Nothing against them, I'm sure they are fine human beings. Just shitty cyborgs...

how the hell can it even be legal that they just hand out fines without proof - i wouldnt be paying the 39$ under any circumstances

I've paid it once, it isn't a fine, its a service fee for getting your exhaust noise checked out. But the trouble one has to go through to get the EPA cleared, it might as well be. Fuel, time, money. Definitely more than just $38.60. And the best part, my exhaust was legal, and pretty below the limit as well.

The Vic Police have yet to reply to my letter sent in approximately 1.5months ago. They probably never will. Where's the accountability!?

    • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
