I took my M35 on a decent cruise this weekend and it appears to have an intermittent fault in the factory cruise.

Sometimes whilst cruising along, there is a beep followed by the car dropping out of cruise. The sensor signal on the right lcd on the dash (car symbol and three bars and dot) flash and an orange 'cruise' lights up to the right of the green 'cruise' on the dash. The only way this can be reset is to turn the car off, after which it appears to work normally.

The second problem it was showing this afternoon was the beep again, followed by dropping out of cruise. This time the orange 'cruise' wasn't there, and the three bars and dot were flashing on the lcd but no car symbol. I could reset this condition by turning the cruise off and on again with the steering wheel button, but it kept on doing this...very frustrating!

In both cases, there were no cars infront or other objects that may have interfered with the cruise as far as I could see.

I have checked for fault codes and it comes up with 1110 (three single flashes then ten flashes), but there's no listing for that code that I could see. Is it the same as the V35 which I think is P1110 Intake Valve Timing Control, LH Bank??? This is no doubt a separate issue... I will reset it and see if it comes back.

Any ideas? Or is this just prompting me to lose the factory cruise, which I don't want to do!

Loose connection to/from your cruise module?

Did you happen to his any bumps before the beep by any chance? Just thinking that if the connection was not great, perhaps the plug was jolted loose?

(have no idea really, so just taking an uneducated guess  )

No, no bumps, jolts, low flying birds (!) etc. I suspect an intermittent electrical gremlin as it isn't putting up an error code on the computer. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced and fixed this.

Anyone got a spare radar sensor for the front grille? Hate to think what they'd cost from Nissan!

Wow, that quote just sent a shiver down my spine... and I get "good" prices from Nissan!

Perhaps PM Chris Rogers? He may have a spare radar sensor, although due to the rarity of the item I think you will need all the luck you can get!

Have you played around with the cruise control wiring? I was reading your last post on how you wanted to get more than 110 by using a circuit from jaycar. I also have this cruise control. I never use it because when cruising sometimes it sees on coming traffic and shuts off esp left hand turns. And also I cant go above the 110 limit and everyone passes me. When you get the warning lights does it try and put on the brakes aswell? Ive tried following a car in front of me with cruise on right up to an intersection the cruise started braking with warning lights on dash and it slows the car right down to about 5 kms. It was a fast stop and i was impressed it colud do that. Try following a car right to stopping point to see if yours does the same. There should be warnings during normal driving but it should still reengage. You could also try setting the distance closer so its not picking up far away objects.

Haven't played with it....yet....

It was working exactly as it should except when it was faulting. Normally it does the braking, warning beeps etc. When it faults, it emits a single beep, drops out of cruise and the dash display starts flashing, either with the orange 'cruise' or not. I played with the distance setting and it made no difference to the problem.

I tried it on a drive to the shops just then and it was working just fine, of course!

just my 2 cents when i had the loaner m35 i had the exact same issue (the beep and drop out of cruise) when i indicated to overtake.. figured it may have a safeguard which stops you indicating (overtaking) while on cruise.. tho could have been also been distance from the guy in front though was a fair bit away.

I think I updated another topic- fixed the problem. Was either a dirty set of lenses for the sensor and/r dirty wiring contacts. Took it all out and apart, cleaned it all, marvelled at all the electronics inside the sensor box, put it back together and it's been working flawlessly. Up to 110!

I wish someone would hurry up and crack the computer programming so they can take out all the speed limiters!

this is exactly what my car does, only i have no lights on the dash.....ever

when you say sensor, do you mean the radar??

Cheers

Andy, please PM me the winning lotto numbers for this weeks draw.

Hi Guys,

I have the same problem with my car as well.

First of all I ripped off the front grill and gave my radar a good scrubbing which seemed to fix the problem for a while. however the problem seems to be coming back more and more frequently.

The only other variable I can think of is the Black plastic which sits in the grill with the Nissan badge on it is starting to fade and show spots all over it, I'm wondering if this is causing the issue as well.

Anyone have any ideas where to buy just the Black plastic part of the grill from and cost

    • Can't you put the pistons to TDC and then do the valve seals? Or will the drop down too far to pull them back up?
    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
