first off is this true i got told that only pushrod motors have valve bounce.

secondly that 7m gte engines are shit cuz they blow head gaskets and corrode out the head

thirdly what sort of limiter do rb25s use ( are all rbs the same) and are neos and r33 rb25 both limited at 7000 or thereabouts

and lastly will a stock rb25 turbo make 300rwhp

A. No. overhead cam engines can float valves with the best of them

B. No they are not shit, Yes they do have an inherint problem with head gaskets. A set of head studs and a decent gasket and you have a motor as good as the 2j

C.Mine came speed limited, Not rev limited

it can be done. it probably won't last very long but it can be done. most people will tell you that the stock turbo stops making power at about 13psi (because they read it on the internet so it must be true), but i can tell you that is wrong. i have seen it with my own eyes. stock turbo running 16psi made about 20kw more at 16psi than it did at 13psi in back to back runs. so even if you say that the dyno was reading high and ignore the total power figure it made, back to back runs with just enough time between runs to wind the boost up showed a 20kw gain where most people will say that it won't make any extra power or will lose power.

also my tuner has a rb25 in his cerfiro and he is making between 210 and 215kw @12psi on the stock turbo. the reason why i say "between" is because he has had it on his dyno and another workshops dyno (before he got his dyno) and they were both within a few kw of each other.

Are you saying 20rwkw? That's a big jump from 13psi to 16psi on the stock turbo man. Your talking around 30-35HP at the engine on something that is allready pushing at its limit. Must have been a freak of an engine/turbo or something.

Are you saying 20rwkw? That's a big jump from 13psi to 16psi on the stock turbo man. Your talking around 30-35HP at the engine on something that is allready pushing at its limit. Must have been a freak of an engine/turbo or something.

pretty sure it was about 20kw at the wheels. (was over a year ago now, so memory is getting a bit dodgy). but it was certainly up around there somewhere.

The 7m- GTE dose not like big boost on standard motor.

Also they do tend to leak oil a lot more then RB's do.

The main problem is that toyota did not torque down the head enough. Which is why a lot of guys go the metal gasket route and new bolts all round.

7M's are a much under rated engine....I rate them better than RBs

I would not go as far as saying the 7m-GTE is a better engine then the RB

If you have ever pulled apart an old 7m-GTE and seen the oil pump setup on these then you will see why. These engines were designed before the RB25/26.

If you are talking about 1jz-GTE or 2jz-GTE then yes you are correct.

If i had to decided to either buy a 7m-GTE or RB i'll choose the RB , mainly because parts, standard or after market are so easy to get for RB.

I havnt done this personally but I know a guy who has. form memory He made 302rwhp on S1 RB25DET maxing the shit out of the injectors and running 16-17psi.

I'm not saying its a good thing but yes as it has been stated multiple time, it can be done.

not really. as far as the actual engine goes the 2-jz is a much better/stronger engine than the rb26, and anyone who knows about engines, no matter how much of a nissan fan they are, will say the same. most of the toyota engines are better built than their nissan counterpart.

Stock does about 130rwkw, I find it hard to belive that Nissan left 90rwkw in the bag for us to unlock.

I had a HKS 2530 that did 220rwkw @ 17psi. Its a bigger turbo than the stocker.

I don't count time-bomb setups as being legitimate power figures. If it isn't bullet-proof its a waste of time.

Regardless, he did it and we all saw it.

Of course this wasnt the actual tune he finished with. It was to see what the limits were of the stock gear and as i said everything was at there absolute limit. Yes, there are many variables but on that particular day, on that dyno blah blah blah thats what that particular enging achieved.

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
