When getting tested for noise is it underload or just in neutral? The Kakimoto N1 "is fairly" quiet... until the gates open. Then its about 6 billion db!

does anyone know what muffler configurations these exhausts have?

i need to get a 3.5" exhaust with large mufflers in it and its cheaper to get a jap cat back and change the rear canon to a large muffler than get a custom made exhaust if there is already a decent sized mid muffler (not a hotdog)

I was looking for a EPA friendly (less than 90db exhaust for the R33 GTR) but it appears they dont exist....even stock. So it looks like the custom route is the only way. Has anyone ever found a way to pass EPA with a custom made exhaust and if so what sort of set up.

May worth giving Racepace Motorsports a ring and find out how quiet their custom exhaust are.

But they're not cheap though.

90-91dB as tested on my car.

Mine is first gen, there has been another created since.

So basically the only conclusion one can draw from this is, Nissan, Japanese Performance part manufacturers = FAIL. Racepace = Awesome.

Racepace said they make the exhausts mainly so race cars get good high flowing exhausts that dont get them kicked off tracks for breaking DB limits, they dont guarantee that it will pass a noise test.

The jap companys (and most aftermarket exhaust companys) are catering to a market that 90% of people who buy them want more noise not less/the same as factory.

Japan also has a 92db limit so factory they can be louder than here.

^ Depends on the motor.

You can draw whatever you want.

The actual conclusion is that a very well designed system can be 3.5" and be very quiet. That is all the aim was.

They were not built to pass EPA. Main creation was for quiet track cars, and good flow for 400rwkw or so as stated.

Customers wanted performance of the circuit, with a exhaust level that would not see them defected contstantly.

Most jap exhausts are just too loud as there is a bit different betwee 94-95 dB and 90-91dB.

A Racepace system will easily cost you double what off-shelf Jap one will, I tell you that straight up.

I'm confident other places could build similar exhausts, but again they won't be cheap either as the mufflers are $$$

I've gone from being heard a block away (108dB), to people not even noticing my car pull up anymore :P

i thought an epa test is only measured to 3000rpm?

good info none the less

According to the ESMP (Engine Speed At Maximum Power) EPA Manual It specifies the EPA test for a:

RB26DETT - 5100rpm

RB25DET - 4800rpm

Yeah I know about the 92db limit in Japan, its just a pity we dont have any manufacturers (that I know of) making EPA compliant after market exhausts here, especially considering the fact a stock exhaust wont pass. They would make an absolute killing.
