Why bother when he just won't listen seriously !!!

1. Okay, first of all, I asked for opinion on weather or not the exhaust made difference, that's all i was asking in this thread... I never asked anyone to elaborate on MINES ecu. I asked "So, questions is, DOES UNBOLTING EXHAUST BEFORE CAT HELP? Please elaborate on your answers-some people say no, you need compression others say yes, better flow. ?" Where do you see anything about MINES ECU???

2. I know myself that r34 is not as good as FMIC-no shit. Only reason why im running it is because i got diked too many times.

3. I know that tuned NISTUNE is better than MINES ECU-no shit-and ill probably end up getting it in future

4. I also know that in my opinion, MINES ECU is better than stock ECU-more aggressive tune, car is faster on it with good AFRs. My choice to run it, car hasnt blown up, im happy. Stock ecu is not goona get me anything over 200kw nor run anything over 10 psi.

5. I also know im taking a risk running hiflow turbo on Mines ecu. Therefore i WILL eventually upgrade the cooler, but will have to set up stock air box. I will eventually swap Mines ecu for NISTUNE along with injectors and z32, altho this doesnt happen over night and is not cheap either.

Just thought id clear shit up.

ok to go back to the start... in theory disconnecitn the exhaust at the cat shouldnt send you backwards as all your doing is removing a restriction.

When it does come to ecu's tho, keep in mind that with a good ecu you can continue to adjust its tune with each and every change you do. so it might be worth doing the ecu first, so you can accommodate any and every mod you do as you do it.

This means that you could potentially avoid having to stump up for injectors afm etc etc all at once. and maybe even get a better more aggressive tune thats suited to your current hardware.

I had a similar set up like you 8 years ago,

Small Supra front mount, stock bov, stock turbo, jap exhaust, boost to 12psi and i ran 13.6 at Calder on a slightly wet track with sumitomo 225/45/16 but that's because my 60ft time was 1.999 something.

wow thats pretty good hey. did you take it there often, or just had a knack for it? (controlling wheelspin)

Nah,

Must have been a lucky shot but i was able to back it up with 13.8, 13.9.....etc. I didn't really launch it at all because i tried it once and almost went to the Holden VN next to me :(.

And yes i was wrong about Fuel pump making the car rich. So how am i not listening "WEST"?

Man.....

There are legal Intercoolers out there or as a matter of fact they're legal if you're running stock Air intake box, also don't cut holes for the cooler piping.

If you'd like to keep the Mine's ecu, at least get an SAFC to either en-rich or lean your A/F out, make sure it runs abit rich just to be safe. I did have a Jap Chipped ECU, nothing much really beside from letting you rev pass the limit and speed limit (this was fun watching your speedo arm going pass 180 and going back to 0 again)

Check your diff, rip a small burnout (in a control enviroment) to see if you still get 2 decent black lines at least then you'll know its still good.

When you're back at Heathcote, lower your tires pressure to at least 20psi, rip a decent burnt out and see how you go. If that still doesn't help then try to ride the clutch a bit but by doing this you'll cook it in no time.

I reckon with a decent cooler, SAFC tuned with current mods that you've got, you should be able to run at least a 13 flat or high 12.

Good luck and spray your front bar and side skirt to match will ya, if i was a cop, i'd pull you over just for that :(.

I knew all that but thanks anyway.

-im going back this sunday. As for riding my clutch and "cooking it in no time", did it when i went last time, had 9 runs, and its still not cooked, maybe because its heavy duty clutch! Tires are shit, but cant really justify getting new tires yet untill i finish these...hopefully soon. (ill run them at 19 psi)

And as for my bar and sideskirts being different colour, here is the latest picture:

mate, i went and upgrade to a hks fcon pro and gained 70kw mid range. this was aided bu changing to a free-er flowing pod filter and bigger injectors and a larger front mount. very similar to your setup, ive run a 12.8 on old street tires, 14psi (low boost) and full street trim. cant see why you cant achieve the same if not better

what kind of power did you make on 14psi?

And yes, ill start off by upgrading cooler and get some decent brand tires. than ill do the nistune, and when im ready, ill finally upgrade injectors and z32.

Look man i have MINES ecu and i also have standard ecu.

You have a dyno.

-Why dont we dyno the car and see what she makes with each ecu. And ill bet you she makes more KW on MINES ECU, and that's all i was saying.

The guys are saying the standard ecu is better because it actually cares if something is going on under the hood that could kill the car.

^ 5 pages later and everyone understand this concept bar the OP it would seem...

Making power in overall terms is utterly irrelevant.

Who fken cares if a "MINES" ECU makes more power, doesn't mean it's safe by a long shot.

Man this guy is awesome, I've been treated with a couple of funny threads!!

Seriously though, what do you do when people are so stubborn, over defensive and so self righteous and sound like a prick to people trying to help him?

What do you do with answers like " I already know" or " no you are wrong" when they are the one asking for help?

Some established fact:

He loved the Mine's ecu and advocated others not to go the ecu+tuner option in his other threads/posts, he even had guys thanking him for providing such a good(cheap, they are cheap for a reason) option.

He has now come around and realised that the ecu+tuner is a better option.

This happened after ~4 pages in this thread. In the mean time, ppl tried to help him even though they obviously have no obligation to do in the first place. He shot them down when he was meant to be grateful, courteous and show people respect.

I think you could benefit from learning some manners when you are asking people to help you, have an open mind otherwise you will never learn anything fast.

Im wondering how running the mines ecu wouldnt be as safe as the standard ecu? With standard turbo, injectors and running no more then 14psi what could go wrong?

And for a cheap option why wouldnt everyone get it for the 1st step? standard ecu not letting me run over 10psi, so mines ecu will. run 12psi which will be 5psi increase on what im running now so for 400 bucks someone tell me how your going to get a cheaper better option then that??

one thing ive noticed no one has seemed to mention throughout this thread.... is tires and suspension

im no drag queen, but i do know that shit tyres and stiff coilovers wont get you the figures you desire down the track, no matter how much power you have!

TIRES TIRES TIRES! - get good ones, not only are they gonna get you better times down the strip with better 60' times obtainable, but they are good insurance for daily driving, remember they are the only things holding you onto the road!

also what suspension do you have?

....lastly who the hell is your mechanic? because even my mum can tell you that fuel pumps dont change afr's unless the old one was dying, and she certainly wouldnt recommend putting in the old dying one because you're not happy with the extra richness!

I think the mines ignoring possible high knock levels due to the heat soaked side mount cooler and better than stock turbo.

It's mentioned earlier in the thread.

Like i said, i never asked anything about mines ecu so can we please just forget it?

Anyway, ran my car today, best time i ran was 13.35 at 108mph. 60ft was 2.23. keep in mind that i am still running shit tires which i will be replacing very very soon. had a look today, one tire is TRIANGLE, and other is DIAMONDBACK brand? wtf.

Funny enough, my mate ran his 180 sx, best he got was 13.1...ran 13.4 all day. He let me have a go in it, i ran 12.75, 60ft was 1.89. Beginners luck i guess.

    • The fab work can be as simple as a couple of silicon hoses and clamps to the factory piping.
    • Just sounds like either way you need to do some fab work to get everything to fit, so why limit yourself at that point? If the GCG high flow option is zero effort in and out swap though I'd probably do that. It's almost certainly lowest risk, lowest cost, etc. The HKS GTIII-RS option that Kapr mentioned is laughably expensive for what it is, they charge the exact same for two turbos on the RB26 so their margins are off the charts on that thing.
    • Intake manifold is not a part of the issue. The turbo bolts to the exhaust manifold. That is easy. But close your eyes and picture the physical situation. That is a T3 flange on the manifold and a T3 flange on the turbo. As long as any new turbo has a T3 flange on the exhaust housing, that exhaust housing will bolt to the exhaust manifold. This places the exhaust housing in the same place as the stock one. But now move your mental attention a little further forward. The location of the compressor housing is set by the length of the turbo's core. The stock turbo had a long core. Let's say that it is..... 100mm long. So that would place the compressor housing 100mm forward of the exhaust housing. But a highflow, might well have a centre core that is shorter. Let's say that it is only 70mm long. Now the compressor housing will be 30mm further back in the engine bay than the stock one. This DOES move the turbo's compressor outlet backwards. It also moves the compressor's inlet backwards. You will very likely have to do some work to both the inlet and outlet piping to make everything connect again. I am not say this to make it out to be a bigger deal than it is. I am just pointing out that "bolt on" is sometimes not quite bolt on. The highflow from GCG that Murray linked above (https://gcg.com.au/turbo-charger-upgrade-skyline-gtst-2iu-xtrgts-s1.html ) uses a core that is the same length as the stock core, and so does not require this extra work. It will look very much like the stock turbo. No-one uses GTR turbos of any flavour (stock, or aftermarket) in a single turbo application on RB20/25. It's not a thing. Yes, people have been putting on GT3076, GTX3076 (and bigger and smaller versions of those) and G30s (of various sizes) onto RB20/25 since forever. But these are not "bolt on". Everything except the 4 bolts to the exhaust manifold change with these. And genuine Garretts are expensive. Non-gen, like Pulsar, etc, are cheaper, variously as good or nearly as good. But still not bolt on. No-one in the right mind would pay for an HKS turbo. Not in this modern day and age. Well, yes, the GCG highflow. You could ask HG what he can do to make the compressor housing sit in the original location. There are surely others doing highflows around the world. And some of the eBay/Temu ones (as reported by Dose) work and don't die. Bit of a lottery though. I would send your turbo to GCG (here in Oz) to be highflowed if you want a trivial no-extra-work option. But seriously, the work required to change inlet and outlet piping is not that hard. That's a boost control problem, not a turbo problem.
    • Thank you all for the replys 🙂 I know that intake would be different but that is one pipe at it is not that hard to get(custom one). I meant mainly bolt to the stock manifold and the turbo elbow. I looked and many sites/forums but they are just "old" with some old HKS turbos from GT-R i guess? What about some Garrets?  Or any other turbo? Is there even a turbo which i can just bolt on? 😄 And yeah i know about that new HKS but that is like 2000k USD without taxes/shipping in here   Iam getting a touch up tune but my "problem" is that on the "not" hot day iam getting peaks around 0,9 bar...and when it was around 15 Celsious i saw peak around 1 bar which is just too much for stock turbo. And of course turbo is old and i like to get some new one for a piece of mind 🙂
    • I'm working on the assumption that our friend Jasmine here is a Russian (or, possibly Ukrainian) spammer/spambot, based purely on the number of such that I have been having to neuter in the last few weeks. IP address for the OP above was in WA. But that could have been via VPN. Posting at quarter to 4 in the morning is a good sign of being from somewhere in Europe. The last Jasmine that I kicked in the cooch was IP addressed in Ukraine. Even that could have been via VPN, and the bitchbot could have been from Russia, Serbia, China or anywhere. Regardless, was a spambot, so I killed it with fire. The fact that our new friend Jasmine here did not respond in any way to my tart query strongly suggests to me that this OP was just the establishment phase of a user able to be activated for spamming in a week, or 3 or 10.
