valet boot locking switch is on the inside of the boot lock, when its on you cant pop the boot from the cabin.  but with that your spose to have seperate keys for the boot and ignition but mine are the same so whats the point there? :)

Shaun

I think Skylines come with 2 keys when new, 1 that fits the ignition and the boot and 1 that fits the ignition only. Its meant to be so you can give the key to a valet person and they cant get into the boot. Does the same thing as the valet boot locking switch i guess.

My car has a dimmer switch that isnt connected to anything. The jap dash is much dimmer than any Aus car ive ever driven.

Also when i put my headlights and driving lights on the climate control becomes so dim you cant see it anymore.

And my Jap battery is so small, ive left my lights on twice now for no more than 20 mins and got back to the car to find the battery dead.

My Sparco steering wheel is also not straight, so i get one sore shoulder when i drive for long distances.

If this hasn't been said before, a known way to fix the Climate Control's LCD is to have it removed and the connections resoldered. I think that after some time, the wires begin to corrode (condensation) and that is why a majority of R32's have this problem.

Also My car is really hard to start. I have an aftermarket fuel pump but it has always been this way.

You turn the key and it just keeps turning over for a few go's, sometimes you have to pump the foot pedal.

any suggestions?

try leaving the car on "reds" for a few seconds to let the fuel pump build up pressure in the lines, then try starting it

Mines the same, hard to start. even leaving the ignition on for a few seconds 10 seconds does not fix the problem. Sometimes, my bulbs in the dsdh and climate control features do not illuminate. I short sharp tap usually sorts that problem out!

My R33 also has a clunk..clunk for a few secs after switching aircon on.

The really weird thing though is that it starts first time, run smooth as silk, goes like a beauty with power, boost and AFR fine after driving it for 40 thousand Kms.

This is WITHOUT..... a FMIC, aftermarket ECU or BOV, new and gapped plugs, pod filter, milo tin exhaust, adjustable cam gears, wings, body kits and stickers.

Hey is this flame suit made with asbestos ? I hope not. :flamed:

Enjoy :(

nah I always leave it till the pump is primed. I hear it Click off in the boot (noise courtesy of the big bosch pump ) but it still is hard to start. most times have to touch the pedal. esepecially when its cold.

also clutch is really loud till you hold your foot in on the pedal.

1. On occasions my climate control would blank out.

2. During rainy days i occasionally have trouble turning the steering wheel when the car is stationary. No its not the feel as if the power steering died..but rather if u turned it slowly it actually has specific points of higher resistance and you'd have to increase your effort to turn it.

My mates car does something which is very wacked.... never could figure out what it is... it only happens in the rain..... You can feel a thumping when you put your hand on the passanger seat and passenger side floor. Its weird becuase it is independant to enigine revs... or car motion.... any ideas what it could be any one ?? AND WHY THE @#$# DOES IT ONLY HAPPEN IN THE RAIN ??

got heaps of gremlins in my r32 :

1. get wierd clicking type noise from behind the instrument cluster (like relay clicks) but only over 110km/h

2. in the rain only, the rear has a noise like two bits of rubber rubbing together, maybe needs a grease up in the rear end.

3. car stalls sumtimes, sumthing to do with the floating earth on the pump. pretty common i think.

4. still cant get to blow air up on the front windscreen with the AC off.

glad this topic came up, good on ya!

Well well, i am also a Toyota Soarer owner, and it looks like the Skyline boys are lucky. Seems that after 10 years all the extra luxury features on the Soarer seem to break down!

Anyhow, my only real problem apart from my clutch squeek (need to replace bearing) and also my window makes a crack sound (drivers side only) when its put down from right up the top.. if its 1mm its fine.. also if i put it up the right back down again it doesnt make the crack sound.

AND the fuel thing OMG... Always have a new car each week for work and god it gets confusing. Makes u feel stupid when I pull up in my car to a petro station and cant remember which side...!

my line makes a noise, like a whistle noise lasts for 1 second, i think its a squeky clutch but it dose it even when im not clutched in.

also i have no factory keys for this car and want to get in from the outside to the boot, where can i buy a key for this??

That stereo cutting out with the gear changing thing, is due to a poor earth connection in the wiring loom, behind the stereo. The loom splits up, one bit goes to the stereo, the other down to the gearbox (thru the floor) There will be a spliced and crimped bunch of black wires wrapped up in tape behind here, and this join, if it stuffs up, will cause your kind of problems. Its easiest to fix, by just joining another earth to your stereo. Join into your black wire behind the stereo (stereo earth) and connect it to a lug, that you can bolt onto a point on the chassis somewhere nearby. Under the dash somewhere you should find a bolt or something bolted to the chassis.

If your reversing lights play up, or your car sutters in 5th gear, then find the black wire that goes down to your gearbox and earth that using an extra earth wire too. Should fix all your problems.

I've got a wierd gremlin atm!...when i start my car and turn on the headlights, only the left one comes on, but as soon as i take off (when the car is warmed up) the other one pops on! bizarre...

1. The relay noise may be the Japanese 110km/h ding warning that many cars have. I believe this gets disabled on many imports.

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
