If I was Subaru, I am not sure I would be advertising that the up and coming model (with several extra add-ons that will not be on the production car) achieved this time....

Thats not too bad for a $55k car.

Subaru make great cars, just not the type that will lap the ring in a quick time. Im a proud owner of an Sti Liberty, does everything I ask of it in comfort and still gets around the corners ok. Not a patch on my GTR though, completely differrent cars.

I thought you drove a jetta?

Can they ring 1000 ponies out of the rexy yet, i doubt it.... :D

it's a car that cost about half of what the gtr did 20 years ago, or in perspective, the new gtr costs about the same as what the r32 did (once you take into account inflation, etc), so the sti wrx is about 1/3 the cost, has 2 less cylinders and 100cc smaller engine, and is designed to be something, that when modified, doesn't need to put out 1000hp, but only needs about 350 to 400hp with a buttload of traction and short gear ratios. different horses for different courses.

Very true, it might have 2 less cylinders (which means what? displacement is what we should be concerned about isn't it?), and a very similar sized engine. however, a 15 year old car does it at that speed, and even if that 15 year old car cost 3 times as much back in its prime, it does not now. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate the "idea" of the WRX's, they're nice little cars, but maybe they shouldn't be using a fast track like this to show their point, maybe they should use something that's a lot tighter where they actually can be faster than 15 year old car.

I have rallied Subarus, Own a shitbox Liberty wagon, and frankly, it outhandles my GTR, but this time is poo, R33 has (to be fair) 230ishkw, and I am guessing less than 400nm weighs 1500+kg, was on stock tyres.

STI has 221kw (aus spec) 404nm wieighs 1505kg (In full street luxo trim) and was on sticky tyres (Even stock tyres are sticker than stock on R33)

This was a Spec C, with work done to it...

I am a Subaru fan, and would still buy one again, but if I was Subaru I would not advertise this.

No, the wife owns the Jetta. Does Bris to Syd via Putty Rd on a tank.

I own an Sti Liberty for my daily and an Aus R32 for a toy.

Anything lapping the ring sub 8sec is a reasonably quick car. My subie feels better in the corners that the GTR. The GTR has a shitload more power and is running semi's which make it really twitchy.

its a stocker man, no upgrades will be made. Does have Tein springs though over the factory billies. I think its been chipped early in the piece, goes hard for a stocker.

Tein Springs are nice, they give a good comfortable ride as well as having some tightness around the corners.

Well of course the Subie having from factoy Billistien's suspension will handle better :D

So your planning on just keeping the GTR as it is?

sif waste money modifying a near 20 year old japanese car... ;)
sif

wait..wut?

:P

Is that a Rolla I see Hamish?

Aww Yeah!

Yeah, its a minter and fairly rare so it'll be staying as is. Does around 30km per month. GTR's are so cheap to run lol.

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
    • So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.
    • Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo
