Hi guys,

The friends I'm staying with while I'm down here have a little A3 turbo that is coming up for service soon (Still under warranty). They were telling me that last time they had it serviced at an Audi dealership it cost around $900. I'm assuming that like most makes and models there are other places that will service the car, stamp the book so the warranty is maintained and it'll cost substantially less.

So who here has found a good place to have thier Audi serviced that does a good job, doesn't charge like the dealership and retains the warranty?

Mine is serviced at the Audi main dealer and their customer service is spot on. Either a loan car or a met card to get to work, car wash voucher etc. Very good communication too (something Service Dept's seem to generally struggle with). I go to the one in Elsternwick on the corner of Hotham St and Nepean Highway however they are moving soon to Nepean Highway, Bentleigh.

When I bought my S4, it was maintained by a place in Oakleigh, some kind of Autohaus I think who stamp the log book too.

Thumbs up for main dealer though in this case, which is rare for me. :)

I take my VW to a mate in Cheltenham... does the whole VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) range if that helps. If it's out of service warranty that is, if it isn't take it to your stealer.

Anyway, you can try Cox Automotive Repairs. They do warranty work on european cars. BMWs, Audis, Alfa etc. They are located in South Melbourne

Have you had it serviced anywhere else? How do they compare price wise?

All I can say is in the long run, the dealer is a better bet, and not because I work for one. I work for VW, and there are things like servicing the DSG ETC that you cant do without the VW/Audi gear. They have to be serviced every 60,000. And if they go wrong and they have not been serviced exactally to specs, you can kiss the best part of 15k away for a new DSG. Things like the Haldex unit (the awd diff on Golfs, Passat, Audi Passenger cars ETC) need to be serviced every 30kI had one on an R32 Golf let go at 75,000 kms, serviced by a local garage, never had the diff serviced, the diff alone was 8k.

Just food for thought.

Audi dealership is the best option... They have up to date information on all Audi's. They will carry out campaign's (recalls) that you don't even know about until you book in for a service. Software updates usually.. All the technicians have a lot of experience on audi's so they wont butcher your connectors or over tighten the fragile aluminum sump.. Oh and have you ever tried to take off the engine cover on the A3 2.0t ? (assuming your mate's isn't the 1.8t) 90% of people who haven't done it before will break it..

PS.. I'm completely biased because i work for an Audi dealer. I also realize that dealers are very expensive but if your mate can afford to buy an Audi in the first place i assume he can afford to pay for servicing.

Oh and NismoR31Jet is right about voiding warranty due to not following correct servicing procedures..

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll pass on all the info and they can make a call.

As I mentioned, I'm not looking for just anyone to service it, but a location that will adhere to warranty standards, stamp the book, be able to do all the normal things an Audi dealership would - though I realise that some of that isn't feasible.

See what they wanna do :cool:

It is the B6 range, one of the V8's. Aside from a couple of initial "issues" which were not Audi's fault, it goes very nicely. Thirsty around town but a tank lasts me 5 weeks so can't really complain. Has every option except Sat Nav and is very very nice to drive. It is auto but with the paddles behind the steering wheel. Pic attached.

Price wise for the OP, I am not too concerned but as an indicator, a 60K service was around the $1K mark which I thought was quite reasonable considering the work it requires compared to the Mini at 60K which had over 2 hours worth of "checks".

As mentioned in PM, you can't go past Audvolks.... i take both my Audi's there B6 and B8 and have taken a couple of VW's there as well.

They have done my Revo Stage 3 in my B6 which is basically:

Computer

Injectors

2871r turbo

Manifold

Front Mount

Exhaust

clutch

Air intake

Computer

EBC

Brakes

etc etc

The will take the time with you and know Audi's and VW's back to front. Not only is their service fantastic but so are their prices. They service R8's RS4's right down to old bangers, plus you get a free loan car.

Jump on Ozaudi forums and ask around, I'm sure many will agree.

Staff - Awesome car! I have been thinking about selling my B6 and getting an S4, i love them... The RNS-E (sat nav) is quite an easy retofit if you wanted to go down that path as well, it completes the car nicely.

I would not take my car to a Dealer personally, they are just too expensive.

      And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil

      Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

      Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
