Got some piping made up, just need to buy some pod filters and the intake side of things is done

thats all ive got done so far, waiting on nissan to deliver my gaskets and injector o-rings

Was just wondering where you got your MAFless induction pipes from? Very nice build up so far too. Im doing a major overhaul/restore on my gtr too, will start a build thread soon :)

Hey mate,

those pipes were just some spares i had lieing around (ive wrecked a few performance cars and few odd bits and bobs that i couldnt sell have found a new home at my workshop lol)

i had to cut them shorter and weld on a quarter inch reduction on the turbo side so the rubber piping fits onto them. The rest of the piping is 3" which is what most pod filters are anyway.

Well AFMs shit me :) and the fact that the driveability of the car is now better is a justified reason on its own now but i was planning on doing a big single conversion however i cant afford to do that atm. Ive got half of it done now, just a matter of time before i get enough money to go for a big single and get a re-tune.

The boost control is alot better now btw. It spikes quite hard to 1.5bar on a cold night in 2nd gear but in 4th is stabilises around 1.35bar. On the dyno was reading 1.30bar and 1.20bar at redline though but its still running on the rich side. Great tune, has never knocked once, on startup i get like 100 knock but i think thats from the starter motor but generally my knock while the car is running never goes over 27.

My old ecu used to get some false knock during driving, i think its because it was old maybe?

  • 3 weeks later...

all i can say it well done and i very much enjoyed reading this thread, its easily got some of the sexiest+toughest midnight 33R's ive seen thus far. im very jealous having to stick with my gts-t due to my pathetic excuse of an apprentice income. :ermm:

im in the same boat buddy :ermm:

Nothing wrong with a knock level of 27. Anything over 40 will get me worried but on a cold night it never goes over 20 no matter how hard im driving it and im very happy with that.

Theres a possibility that your low knock level is due to a too conservative tune? (if that makes any sense) Room for more power maybe?

How much power are you making and on what boost?

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
