See, lol that's why I am so envious of all UK guys. They have the coolest tracks, live next door to them...they have a huge motorsport industry with a booming track day market based on the amount of Caterhams, Atoms etc that are sold every year.

yep they're very lucky... we stayed with some friends in London and when he mentioned how many times he had popped over to Amsterdam for a messy weekend with his mates I almost died of jealousy

not to mention all of the abandoned airfields about the place... the closest patch of concrete we have is nearly 2 hours out of Melbourne :D

the UK laws on road registration seem to be a lot more relaxed than here as well... and the government seems to support those small car manufacturers a lot more

Was watching the 24hr GT2 last night and it looks like such an awesome track, especially in something light with aero through Eau Rouge! :D

Oooooooh yeah - got a link?

Love GT2 but never seem to catch the races!

Are you able to run your new jigger with the WRX club? Jess was telling me that in NSW these sorts of cars are often forced to run on other days with similar machinery.

Yep, I checked before hand with Justin and he was fine with it.

lol, is your sideways camera footage still around?

looks like great fun troy....enjoy it! and remember if you don't fall off you have't found the car's limit

....There will be a dedicated series for them next year though, which is appealing....

not a chance that will get off the ground, there are not enough cars for a dedicated series. If carrera cup can't survive in aus, radical cup is a pipe dream of an importer that is loosing money.

Very competitive against them, the wests are the main challenge.

yeah the wests are fast and getting faster. the racing car catetgory in NSW is a great mix atm.

Do you know they're losing money, or is it a guess/grapevine chat?

Cool cool. Just checking as part of the Radical appeal is the backup available in Australia. If that back up was gone then may as well get something quicker ;)

Troy/Richard: Pics and vids!

What is it with people or technology trying to fark me in the ass. Trust me when i say I was awsome at the Ring and Spa....shame only about 1/2 the footage was captured :( So its nothing more then my usual Hot Air talk :)

I am drunk and crook so cancelling the last few days of my holidays and heading back to UK for some R&R. But, I am MEGA pissed off that other peoples bad organisation, OR technical glitches with my cameras compounded what little running we got with the fact that we didnt get any footage of it :(

everyone in europe is out to get us. but f**k we are having fun. nurburgring was awesome despite the M3 we had booked having it's engine blown before our day. they then offered to give us their 911 GT3 instead as compensation but some russian bastard stuck it in the fence on the ring the day before we were to have it. :( still we had fun in 2 alfa 75s (3L V6 with cage, semis, etc), had 2 different scirocco's (great car for the ring, nice cage, semi's, DSG, good car) and an Audi A6 too.

Spa was also amazing. such a cool track and very, very quick. The lotus exige 260 we had was a serious piece of gear too. it was on semis as well and was amazing with corner speed and so good under brakes.

A few little problems and the farking rad cam was a bit less than rad and sadly meant we didn't capture about half the ring footage (of course the best laps were the ones were it died) and same at spa (and again we missed the better arvo sessions). the POV worked fine though but we'd set it up as a secondary camera so the footage is kind of lame without the main angle from the radcam.

anyway, without evidence it just means the laps get quicker in the stories we tell, the porsches we passed were more plentiful and the driving was out of this world!!!!

now I need to get my 2 hours sleep before we drive to the airport.

also, Spa casino was hilarious. definitely drop some cash there if you are in spa. built in 1762 it claims to be the oldest casino in the world and I'm inclined to believe it. it's a very cool old building.

oh, we also had the most awesome meal in dusseldorf on the way to spa. big pork hock for troy about the size of a small child with sauerkraut and potato and schnitzel with mushroom and onion for me. eaten with many a beer and of course strudel for desert. it's about as bavarian as it gets.

monza GP was cool too but sadly no victory for our mate webber but I did get to give vettel a piece of my mind as he hopped out of his car after the race. that was nice.

bed time. pics, vids etc to follow when I manage to get 1 day where I'm not flying around europe, driving around europe or at the track.

The quality of the Radcam footage is great, but mine seems to be hanging from time to time and there are some files that whilst recorded wont play. I get an error

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

I supsect its related to the hanging, but when it hangs it does not seem to be related to the files that dont view?!?! Som will play with it a little more and speak to the supplier when i get home. Was gutted that the file from the only session i got on semis in the Lotus does not play. But, as Count says, it just means I can talk up all the cars I was hammering by...but it was the best 10 laps of my life, living bumper to bumper with Gallardos, Scuderias, GT3RS etc in a little gripped up Lotus with more corner speed then them would have made for some pretty cool footage

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
