there is a stigma attached to skylines so dont say we didnt warn you.

i bought my skyline because it was cheap power / plenty of parts / mods and as much as its 13 years old i still think they look fairly good.

Three kinds of people when you own a Skyline.

People who think your an irresponsible motorist because you drive a skyline

People who don't know or car about skylines or cars in general.

and finally the third and largest group, those who think your a wanker because you drive a skyline.

Be prepared for all the Adidas wardrobe, kebab eating and womans car jokes from Bogans and the general public alike.

Lol

If i had a dollar for every time I've heard, "your sister wants her car back" and "only milk and juice comes in 2 litres" I would Have an SL65 AMG black as a daily and only drive my skyline when I want to, my current daily is an SR5 Corolla Lol, 4WD power !

Get a GTR. They drive like nothing else, lots of power, handle extremely well and driving will no longer be a chore but a pleasure. Just make sure you get a well maintained one that at least looks fairly stock (for the cops) and isnt obnoxiously loud. You should be prepared to spend some money if things go wrong, especially if you can't do the work yourself, and more frequent servicing than for a commo or similar. I guess it depends how many kms youre gunna do as well - might not be that practicle if you do mega kms. But the same goes for any car that is any fun...

Don't get an R33 if you want X factor lool. Though even an R33 will piss all over a VT in terms of the way it drives, power and braking.

Marc is possibly the biggest failtroll of the forum. Come on this guy likes MAGNAS.

yeah but you like fatties, LOL

I think 20 years of people sliding in and out has done the most wear lol, and how can you possibly relate that to the window cable snapping?!

stiletto heels into door panels via thigh-power of course :)

i bet you excite them all!

I get paranoid when someone fat wants to sit in my car, also worried that the fact some tool steps on my shiny gtr scuff plate first rather than placing their foot outside the car.

side skirts have been broken that way before :)

To me, Skylines are hypo cars and modifying them is a must, so have PLENTY of coin stashed away somewhere. I cant stand them in stock form.

If it is going to be a daily and lived with everyday, buy an EVO.

Hope you're OK/uninjured.

Hope you've got insurance.

Repairable write-off?

yeah im ok , car is still fixable according to the insurance company , quote was $22000 its rediculous ! B pillar , roof , firewall replace and re-instate .

Hmmm...

Good you're OK

Car? Hope the robot can show that body/chassis alignment is all within the mm.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
