The time has come to travel our most favoured road again.

Yes, the Great Ocean Road Cruise to Apollo Bay is on again.

Here are the crucials...

1stly.

You must have a full tank of fuel before arriving at your starting meet

point. This will help us depart at the desired times. It's going to be a

big day so not wasting time filling up is pretty important. We had a

problem with this last time with people having to take stops on the way

and thats a pain in the ass.

Ok, onto the details.

Date: 28th Feb 2004

Meet points/Times:

Western Suburbs R3Nismoids Group

Meet at 9.00am - Departing 9.30am

Mobil Service Station on the Ring Road

Eastern Suburbs Snowmans Group

Meet at 9.00am - Departing 9.30am

MegaMart Carpark off Warigal Rd

Melways: 69 G2

Geelong Meet Point ECR33's Group.

Waurn Ponds Hotel

10.30am Departing 11.15am

Melways: 229 B5

Basically, taking a nice leisurely drive down to the GOR.

The run down to Geelong is going to be a slow smooth one to avoid the

fixed camera's that are down there now.

We'll meet on the far side of Geelong, so that we can just get everyone

through without loosing people like what nearly has happened before.

Once the Melb crew's hook up with the guys at Waurn Ponds hotel just

outside of Geelong, we'll avoid the first part of the GOR, and Torquay.

This means we will go down Anglesea Road.

This is 200m from the hotel itself

After that, it's a glorious run down to Apollo Bay. Where we'll

grab some lunch etc and go for a few photo points etc etc. And then a

route home can be discussed.

I have a special home route that we've taken in the past that everyone

seems to like for some... odd... reason... So we'll more than likely

take that route back to Geelong. Basically it goes through the Otway

Ranges, and have a excellent mix of corners and straights

Hope to see everyone there.

If you wish to have my mobile number just in case something happens,

please send me a PM and i'll send it off to you.

If anyone for the South/East pre-meet needs my mobile number please PM me.

I know there are a lot of us coming from a fair way down from the pre-meet point but the idea of meeting there is that it's a very short trip to the freeway so there is a minimal chance of spiltting up the group.

Took my car out on the weekend and at 4K, in second gear, the clutch is slipping :). Has been booked in for the 01/03/04 . Would REALLY appreciate a lift with someone, i could be the photo-boy :P, and keep tabs with the 2-way radios.

Please PM me, if a "shot-gun" seat is available :). Willing to drive the company van to anyones house and leave it there.

Thanks

Alan

I think I'll be in attendance too... meeting at Mega Mart.  In terms of fuel, might be wise to top up in Geelong.

Yeah. We got that planned.

i just didnt put it into the orig post to try and keep it short.

Probably just outside Geelong.

I'll be in touch with Snowman on the day. So we'll work it out when we come to it

You're welcome to grab a lift with me but I'm in the Fairmont! I'll be there, taking heaps of photos and trying desperately not to hold everyone up.

You're welcome to grab a lift with me but I'm in the Fairmont! I'll be there, taking heaps of photos and trying desperately not to hold everyone up.

There will be LOADS of time for pics.

Dont worry.

If you want a few more, just tell Snowman/myself and we'll hold up for another 5-10 mins.

More pics the better, especially before MAS.

Hmmm.... I supose I'd better get me one of those cb radio's. Where do I go for those?

And I MAY have a shot-gun seat available. But won't know until closer to the time so don't want to make any promises as yet.

I'll check mine tonight... but i'm 99% sure they are UHF or whatever it is.

Just the Uniden/GM ones etc you can pick-up from Dick Smiths etc for like $80-$120.

The cheapest ones (uniden) are pretty average for the $80 one though.

If your looking for a radio. Go here http://www.prestigecom.net.au They ship same day as order is placed. It arrives from perth to your front door overnight. (Mostly) UHF is the way to go. Don't waste your time and money on AM CB.

I'll cyas all at SE meet point. Looking forward to it.

Also don't buy Digicor, Digitalk, Digiwhatever hand helds. I was a sucker and wasted my hard earned cash. Go the extra $20 and buy uniden. Also 5watts is stronger than 2w and Grounded in car radio is better than a handheld.

Maintenance is also important road trips etc, make sure your car is up for it we don’t want to be calling RACV out to get people towed home, it would really be a shame. So make sure all fluids are topped up, tires checked (tread and pressure) just general stuff to make it better for your car and your enjoyment.

I might not be there as my car isn’t ready, I’ll see what I can do about some sort of lift but I’m sick of bothering people. Hopefully everyone has fun, no cops….well lets hope. Cheers Rob

    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
    • Correct. Um. I dunno. I haven't cared enough about the way that the NA cars work to know for sure. But..... The 33/34 turbo manual cars have an electronic speed sensor in the gearbox that outputs a +/- (ie, sawtooth AC) voltage signal. That is connected to the speedo. The speedo then outputs a 0-5v square wave (ie, PWM) signal that the ECU (and any other CU on the bus) sees. The speed sensor is NOT directly connected to the ECU. So here's the problem. Your new ECU expects to see the PWM signal, but must somehow be getting a direct signal from the diff speed sensor. Which would suggest that the wiring of the NA car is not the same as the turbo cars. I think you will need to spend some time with (hopefully the wiring diagram for the car) and a multimeter to see what is connected to what. Then, presuming I am correct**, you would then want to separate the ECU speed signal input from the rest of the car's wiring, and probably either buy a speed signal converter, or build one using an arduino (or similar). That would take in the speed sensor signal and output a scaled (and suitably rearranged) signal for the ECU. ** We shouldn't presume that I am correct here, because there might be something else crazy going on. I don't think you could convert the speedo to be fed from the gearbox sensor, because the pulse rate from that sensor is probably different to the diff sensor and then the speedo would read wrongly. And this also wouldn't fix the ECU's problem either, because the ECU doesn't want to see the gearbox signal direct either (assuming that they are all on the same wiring, for some odd NA related reason, see above caveat!) Does this help? Probably not. Can you make it work? Almost certainly. With the above work. You should buy a handheld oscilloscope from Aliexpress so that you can view these signals directly. Connect up the probes and drive the car. Show photos of the screen when drving at known speeds and connected to different places, and we'll see what we can learn about it.
