Congrats on the new little one mate !!!. :P:P:D.

This survey you talk about,,,has anybody here been involved in it???. I know I haven't and I'm PISSED OFF BIG TIME about it. Does anybody have copy of it???.

i'd also be interested to know about these meetings that go on but the drivers know very little about. I don't have the time to troll cams sites to find out when they are on.

Thinking about shooting my own e-mail off to the commitee.

Cheers

Neil.

I may get in trouble writing this but it pisses me off. The response my father got at the meeting when he asked how may people where asked over the new rules was "We have done a survey and this is what most people wanted" How many people did you ask? "Not sure but a few". I know many people that are not happy that outright is gone, but was very surprised to find out on the weekend while at the Supersprint presentation speaking to some EVO owners they were more than happy and their exact words "We cannot run as fast as a R35 and have no chance winning." Maybe they were part of the panel's survey who knows?

Emphasising type championships more can't be a bad thing.

But i don't see why we need to drop outright entirely.

To be frank i'm more disappointed i can't find anyone who was part of this survey (which apparently resulted in the rule changes).

I certainly wasn't asked, but I guess you only ask those who will give you answers you're after.

Oh so the NUMBER ONE plate holder didn't get it either. Thats absolute rubbish.

Good day everybody,

I’m led to believe that a survey was done concerning our state championship for next year. Is this correct?. I for one have not seen it and I am concerned that changes have been made without knowing anything about it. Now while you may think this doesn’t really affect “Neil” running his Radical in 5D, believe me it does. Some of you may well know that I’m a member of Skylines Australia and an Ex President of the NSW cams arm of the club, I own a Skyline of which I am currently converting to tarmac rally/race spec. It might also be noted that our web-site has a number of competitors, one being the holder of the number 1 outright plate two years in a row.

Would it not be a good idea to forward such “Surveys” and rule change ideas to ALL the drivers, it’s not like you don’t have our e-mail addresses.

It would also be a great idea to e-mail every driver when committee elections are up for grabs, quite frankly none of you know anything about “us” the drivers, you may well have a person with great organizing skills and/or class ruling ideas.

I’m also led to believe that there is no outright champion next year, is this correct, as I haven’t heard anything about that either?, I’m reading this all off the internet.

I really don’t have the time to canvass cams web-site to find out what’s happening and I believe it’s one your peoples job to keep us drivers informed, after all we are the people paying for licences/club membership fees/entry fees and advanced entrants fees.

It’s a bit late now but the Supersprint Panel had a meeting last night, would have been good to get that email in for that..

I wonder how many people did complain about the R35 running this year to make them change the rules for next year

Last night mate,,,would have been good if WE the drivers knew about it,,,shit it's just a email away.

What I find funny from a open sports car point of view or an open wheeler driver is that the R35's are quicker,,,Nissan again has built the ultimate mouse trap and it cant win outright.

Should I call them "Arseholes"

Cheers

Neil, you should have received an email from the panel about the changes - i think a few weeks back?

Anyway it's academic at this point.

So i assume there will be a type 5 championship, at the same level as outright i suppose. But you'll have the clubmans (on slicks) in the same class, i think? A suggestion i made was for a "true street" class; like type 2 but capped to $60k. And no gutting, no cages, no carbon bodies etc. No trailers! ha ha. Now i would have had a crack at that (in something other than the r35 of course). One of the issues i see is that you have what effectively amount to race cars in every class, the only thing that can compete is something insanely quick, like the r35.

In the end, i guess rules are rules and cannot keep everyone happy.

can I just say it's bullshit that a standard S13 silvia should have to run in SV when an aussie S14 can run in Type 1. same goes with a 32 GTR. they should be allowed to run in any class a local evo or wrx can run in. how does being imported change a cars performance? it's not like the S14 was built in australia. it came here on a boat just like any GTR or silvia I've ever imported...

I just did a search through all my S/S emails and I don't have it. Can you or someone please email it to me.

Thanks

Emailed to you Neil.

Thanks mate your a champion and if thats what you all got then I didn't. :(

I was hoping to come home today and have a reponse to my email but alas I don't.

Hi Neil

If you are waiting for an email from Doreen or Michael - you are better off buying a lotto ticket, we have sent several prior to Australian Hillclimb C'ship and again 6 weeks prior to Aussie Supersprint regarding rules - Doreen promised she'd get back - she did (2 days ago) and said she was still looking into it, although both events are long gone, also advised she was too have talks with John Bruning, bit busy organising the presentation night perhaps. Email below

Hi Stuart,

I cannot and will not speak for Michael, but I will for myself.

I did not renege on my promise.

I have in fact your emails in front of me and have been discussing your issues with John Bruning since the 1st email.

He in turn I believe has been investigating the situation with the appropriate people.

Given that I was very instrumental in bringing the concept of Supersprints to Australia, and my involvement on many levels since, I would love the opportunity to work on the Australia wide Speed and Race Panel, but since I am now an actual employee of CAMS, must wait for an invite by the Panel Chair to attend any Panel meeting.

John Bruning will be back in the NSW office tomorrow, and I will discuss this further with him.

Regards

Doreen

Maybe just as easy to ask the questions at presentation night.

I'd like to know who issues the permits for these club, state national events with all the dodgy classes. Does CAMs have any control or are they just after the bucks?

^^ I second that. Also what about imported S15 vs local S15? One is type 1 or 2 but the import one must be SV?

2wd turbo car's and especially imported 2wd turbo cars stand no chance of being competitive.

exactly it's bullshit. if aus S15s are eligible for type 1 etc then so should the personally imported models. it's the same car after all. same goes for R32 GTRs. they were sold in aus so if they can run in type 1 and 2 etc then so should any ones subsequently imported as again it's the same car (in some respects the aus one is better with coolers etc).

like you said good luck going anywhere with an import S13 turbo in SV D (over 3l class with their 2L turbo).

copying and pasting from the 2011 regs to me the spirit of the rules tell me a bog standard R32 GTR should be in type 1. as should a standard S15. not in bloody SVD. it's stupid.

In regards to the above imported S15 and R32 GTR not being able to run in Type 1 & 2 due to the meaning of Production Car in the regulations not being road registered through dealer network

Production Car means an a mass-produced automobile, the model of which

is or has been commercially available to the general public in Australia as a new

car, capable of Road Registration, through a manufacturer’s dealer network, and

(a) at least 200 examples of such model must have been Road Registered, and

(b) at least 200 examples of such model must have been produced in a 12

consecutive month period.

Have just had a chat to my father who was on the panel but my older brother (Allan) has taken his place and they would been keen to push for this to be re- worded to allow imports that were sold in Aust to run in Type 1-2

So someone wanted to send an email to the Supersprint panel for a clarification for the cars that were sold in Australia but are also available as a Japanese Import and are standard and comply with Type 1 & 2 rules are able to run in this I reckon there is good chance this can change.

Like I have said before it’s all about numbers and if this would bring another few cars out to compete I’m sure they would change it. Duncan unsure of the mods on your R32 GTR but if this was changed would your car be legible to run in Type 2?

yeah mine matches type 2 (on the assumption 1 is dead stock, 2 is 3E, 3 is 3J, 4 is 3D). It has shocks, springs, ECU, radiator. I just don't get why the classes are such a lottery. And not jsut sprints but elsewhere as well. Why not stick to the same consistent rules to help cross discipline entrants?

One other thing I don't understand, and supersprints are not alone - why on earth do NSW racing, sprint and hillclimb fall on the same weekend so often? It stops entrants across disciplines, reduces the available officals, and means neil can't fix my car for me :action-smiley-069:

Might want to check AWD/Turbo rules for type 2 sprints (no ECU mods). However if you run a 383 cube HSV feel free to run a 260 cam with 600+thou lift and 35* timing.... (which is apparently fine)

strikes me as cherry picking the CAMS manual for ways to keep imports out. Types 1 and 2 didn't mention "CAMS Production Cars", it says "Road registered cars". Imports are just as registered as Australian delivered vehicles.

which makes this a moot point, but Nissan sold a few more than 200 S15s I reckon... Thats "the model of which" imported S15's are...

It dose base Type 1 & 2 on Production Cars you just need to read the full set of 2011 regs all 28 pages

Here they are:

http://www.supersprints.com.au/rules-and-r...icle%20Regs.pdf

I take it back then. They didn't cherry pick the CAMS manual to exclude imports, they redefined the CAMS def'n of Production car specifically to exclude imports from Types 1 and 2.

how's this?

"In general, the Type rules are a combination of Circuit Racing Classes from the CAMS Manual (Types 3, 4 and 5) and categories to suit the more standard, road-registered cars used by newcomers to the sport."

What do you reckon the majority of potential newcomers to the sport are driving?

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since. Found my 'lucky' coin underneath the rear seat too The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44&t=6s
    • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
