lol but on a serious note.. do you think that is a vq30det the old one ?

because in the description he does say it did start life as a vq30de in a rx300

i would like to think he got a vq25det and used that to make a vq30det with forged internals but could be wishfull thinking.

Are you aware this car is in New Zealand?

I'm pretty sure they'd let you register a V8 powered skateboard, if it had seatbelts...

I have heard the VQ30det can run over 400wkw on the stock engine, as ours has the same stroke there is the possibility the same bullet proof rods are in our blocks. Thats my theory anyway.

So no, not instantly illegal, because the engine is not older than the chassis it's going into. Thems the rules AFAIK.

VQ30DET

The 3.0 L (2987 cc) VQ30DET is a turbocharged version of the VQ30DE. Bore and stroke remain the same at 93 mm and 73.3 mm respectively, and it has a compression ratio of 9.0:1. It produces 270 PS (200 kW; 270 hp) and 271 ft·lbf (367 N·m). From 1998 onwards, it produces 280 PS (210 kW; 280 hp) @6000 rpm and 285 ft·lbf (386 N·m) @3600 rpm.

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

* 1995–2004 Nissan Gloria Y33,Y34

* 1995–2004 Nissan Cedric Y33,Y34

* 1997–1999 Nissan Leopard Y33

* 2001–present Nissan Cima F50

Yes mate, we have the same rods as found in the F50 Cima's VQ30det.

As an aside, Nissan also use these same rods in the VQ30dd and VQ25dd.

I didn't think it was legal anywhere to use an engine older then the car. Sorry if i might be wrong but thats what I thought.

If that was the case, how could people put 12A (Series 1 - 1979) rotaries into newer vans, bmws, etc... As pointed out, in NZ you can pretty much get away with anything, aslong as it's certified.

Our laws are only just starting to get harsh, like exhaust noise, cat converter etc

Haha so you were confused lol :D

FYI in QLD if the motor series was produced at the same time as the car then its fine, it's not based on the year the actual motor was produced rather the year that motor type was available.

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps  
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car. 
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
