Was it actually too low, or were they just saying that? Its always good to know exactly, then you can say "get out the ruler, I *know* its legal".. then they defect you for something else

At least no fine.

better watch it, they'll fine you for comments like that

Nah, this copper was on the ball.

He was sitting on the side of the road on Springvale road on top of the Eastern freeway just watching people drive past, decided I looked as good as any, so he pulled me over up near tunstall square, and I was carefull not to park anywhere illegal!!!

Then he pulled out the breatho (at 11 am on a Sunday) and then pulled out a wodden stick with a roller on the end which is 100mm diameter. Said all the official stuff, and rolled it right under my middle muffler and sure enough its about 10 mm too low.

He checks under my bonnet for any "after market blow off valves or things like that" of which there were none.

tells me that he will give me a canary but not fine me etc. etc. and he was acutally quite reasonable.

He was in a Blue Highway "Safety Car" and knew his stuff.

Bit of a pain in the arse being done, but he couldn't have been more up front, honest, calm and actually quite a nice guy.

Anyway, time to put the stock exhaust back on!!

BASS OUT

huh?!?!?! aftermarket blow off valves

Ive got a blitz one hanging off...is that illegal???

how much do i get fined :D

of course its illegal if its not plumbed back (although try to explain that to the officer).. first thing another member of our forums got picked on when he got pulled over was his BOV. Both myself, and his car were inspected and erm, yeah.. all the got him on was the BOV.

They're not a good idea, and anything external cops can see/hear from a distance, or close up, they *will* ping you for it. Often the stealth approach works well.

I think the standard defect cost is $125 fine. Get 3x of them, and that BOV is costing you more than its worth.

Bad luck Bass :D

They are being a tad on the opressive side at the moment. Lucky it's the sticker and no fine (same as me) - just a waste of your time to get it fixed though.

I wonder how high the pursuit Monaro is?

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.
    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
